Telemarketer
report these a**les to the donotcall.gov web site and file a complaint. my number is also unpublished, and in do not call registry. the only way to make these a holes stop their bull s*** scams is for the FTC to fine the hell out of them.  if enough of the public reports these idiots the government will see what they really are and down grade their standing in the BBB.

In response to TB, yes it does "expire". they tell you it doesnt because of the simple fact that your NUMBER stays in their database, HOWEVER depending on which state you register through they have an extended time until the number goes back into circulation. some one year, others two... Furthermore if you put one number on (for example your house phone) that doesnt mean your other contact lines would be on it (i.e. your cell, work, other landline, etc). and why is it that BL says they regularly renew if it doesnt expire but TT said it didnt expire? Like i said, depending on where you register theres different limitations.. and if you get a new number or change one, its fair game.
AND in response to TT, Im not quite sure how they call you several times a week because our day shift calls the lead once, night shift once, and weekend shift once, equalling three times. the only way we could call more is if there was a duplicate of your number on our lead lists. If thats the case, then thats a mistake coming directly from the List Brokers providing the leads. and i apologize on their behalf, however there's not much we can do about it because we have many people calling the leads and one person wouldnt know if a fellow employee called that number already on a different lead. it happens every once in a while. but if we become aware of that, we remove the number.

If you are on the DNC list and we do call you... just tell us and we WILL take you off. Now if you return our call and want to be taken off you must provide us with your number that we contacted you on because unfortunately our computers do not have caller i.d. on incoming calls.

And yes, our BBB rating is a B-... BUT thats over the course of 3 years! 62 complaints in three years is extremely good considering we have hundreds of thousands of customers. AND also if you really looked on the page you would see that 99% of these complaints were in fact resolved!

Lastly,
Christina  you are right, we do charge you 39.90/month for the first HALF of the service. as a supervisor i state that with you... and you agreed to sign up for our doubled up payment. that was all on you. we dont put you on our two month plan unless you accept that. otherwise its just that 19.95 mo. and even on our validate system when you get the question it asks you how much your monthly bill is... you would have said "39.90" and the next question states "how many consecutive monthly payments will you be making?" and you would have had to answer "24 months" in order for your order to even be processed! otherwise we could not have entered the order.

dont belive me?
call our customer service and ask to listen to your recorded conversation with our supervisor!! 888-369-7323

I just do not answer these numbers. However, I AM tired of receiving the calls. I know they call the number more than three times as in this past week, I have erased the same number from my CELL phone at least five times. I am not on the DNNC list, but know how these telemarketers work. They don't pay any attention to lists, etc. My first husband ran a phone operation for a well known national photography studio - they gave each operator a starting number (IE: prefix [555] with last four digits beginning with 0001 thru 0100) to call in an alloted amount of time, the operator just dialed as instructed and got whoever answered, baited then into giving their name, etc.
Also, a few years ago, my youngest son had just gotten out of the hospital from an accident in which his neck was fractured - he got this call from this same magazine scam - he told the caller he was on morphine and didn't understand what was being offered. Unwittingly, he gave too much information, started receiving several magazines he didn't want and when he called to cancell the "order", was told it was not cancelable! He stopped the payments on the CC used but has a black mark on his credit now.
Great scam and they get away with it.

These'people' called my home number this morning. As a policy, we don't answer calls from numbers like these unless they are expected. This was NOT. So, we let it go to the answering machine, and they hung up. WE ARE AND HAVE BEEN ON THE donotcall LIST SINCE IT STARTED!!! Hey CW, employee of the idiots, this call will be reported, count on it!!

Just got a call from them and was told that they could not remove my number without my name and address.  What a crock!  I think this company needs to have some lawsuits against them.  Maybe then they will stop for a while.

I got a call on my cellphone this morning. After reading these posts, I am glad I had a meeting. They gave me the exact same spiel right down to asking how the weather was. They stated that my credit card company had submitted me for the sweepstakes because I was such a good customer. (Since most people have a credit card, the statement is pretty secure to cover their butts.) I listened, agreed, confirmed the information they already had and waited for them to ask for my credit card. If they didn't ask for it, they were probably legit. If they did ...

Christine was the first person I spoke with who was very nice and told me she was new on the job so her supervisor wanted to speak with me to find out how she did. The supervisor, Lindsey Kimble, got on the phone and started the exact same way, even asking how the weather was.  When she asked for my credit card number, I told her I wasn't comfortable giving that information out to someone that had called me. She gave me the same line that CW gave "check us out on the Better Business Bureau site." (Their BBB.org rating is a B- due to the number of complaints.) I asked her to provide the information because I had a meeting I was already late for stating I would look it up when I got back and call her back at the number she provided. She didn't want to do that and, instead, said they'd call me back.

Now that I've read this, I will be sure to give whomever calls back a piece of my mind.

They never said their company name. They mentioned the "Dreams Come True Sweepstakes" which is a legitimate sweeps name for more than one sweepstakes so if you're trying to do a quick search while talking to them you'll find something ... including an expired Disney sweeps.

I have had both my home number and cell number on the DNC list since they announced it because I can't stand sales calls. I added them at the same time. I do not receive sales calls at home so I know my number didn't "expire".

Unfortunately, with the way the economy is going, I expect this is going to happen more and more.

My husband's and my unlisted cell phones are on the federal do not call list.

United Readers' Service called my husband and I within 15 seconds of each other, gave some song and dance about how we were contest winners from some credit card company, bank, or credit union, but they cannot tell you which . It's all BS. They are well known for getting your credit card # to pay for magazine subscriptions that they strong arm you into after you have given them your address as a verification on where they can send your "major prize".  Then they start billing you for bogus subscriptions.  I have reported them to the FCC for the "do not call" violation.  They have called my husband 4 times now. It's ridiculous!  I believe that Sprint just sold our phone numbers and names to thsi scam company. Report them if you can. We have contacted the local police dept in Lakewood, OH. They are located at 13400 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, OH 44107.  Fraud, con men, scam artists... They even used a lot of the same terms used on the movie, "Matchstick Men" with Nicholas Cage.  I hope they all rot in Hell.

I find it comical that CW monitors this site.  She obviously knows that people are on here complaining about the exact same things.  She wouldn't even bother to check this site if she herself found her company to be respectable.  CW, do you think Wal-Mart or other companies monitor and respond to every single website that has negative comments about them?

This is my business line and hasn't ever been entered onto a form or anything I fill out so cut the crap about how numbers are acquired.  Plus, I spoke with a rep at length last week.  She was nice but I simply explained that I could get the exact same magazines at a fraction of the cost myself.  Why yesterday evening did I receive another call if I had already declined this magnificent dream prize??

What is your real name CW?  Stop hiding behind your computer.  If you truly are a supervisor why not give us your name?

Well dan, my name is CHRISTINE WERLING.

and the reason i come on here and defend my company is simple and obvious. People dont listen, lie or misconstrue our offer on here. People do not like telemarketers in a general statement, so they have NO problem trash talking them. and im not saying that all the people on here do that per se. But some do misunderstand the offer because alot of times they arent fully paying attention, honestly.

and I come on here and defend my company not because of how un-respectable i believe it is and am trying to hide....
i come on here for the EXACT opposite reason. i love this company, have been here for 5 years and am only 20 years of age and a fulltime college student! (ive been around the company though for pretty much my entire life.)
...i do it to set the record straight and defend the company. do you think i get paid to go on here and respond to other peoples libel? no. my own boss has no idea that i do this. i do it on my own account. i dont want people looking down on a company im proud of. plain and simple.

CW,

Very true!  You posted your MySpace information but maybe you didn't realize that it totally contradicts your earlier statement regarding your English degree from a 4-year private college, focusing on MLA and APA style formatting.”  That doesn't appear to be your current major.  Additionally, I doubt you had time to complete ANY bachelors degree since graduating from high school in 2007.  Maybe when you’re a little older and have more work and life experience you’ll understand the damage companies like United Readers Service create on consumer’s credit reports.  Moreover, maybe you’ll be able to understand why people are hesitant to do business with companies that have 15 year olds (you’ve worked there for 5 years?) negotiating/selling magazine contracts and obtaining personal credit card information.

I dont actually have a bachelors degree in that field, just an associates. But I am enrolled fulltime at a 4year college in edu as my  profile states. But regardless, I don't come on here to defend my personal life but the company people have been bashing. And yes I have worked for this company since I was 15, only because my own mother has been with it for 20+ years herself and I clearly had to prove my ability to stay employed... I mean there us a quota to be made as it is a sales company. And age really doesn't say much- you can be 40 and act 12 or, as in my case, only be 15 but be mature enough to hold down the same job for a quarter of my life.

And we call people Not knowing they're income. If you can't afford it tell us we'll gladly let you go. I'm a broke collge student and I understand. But if you say yes and agree to all the terms knowing you can't afford it, then that's not my problem. I'm here to make money just like everyone else out there and I'm proud I'm doing it legitimately

It’s understandable that you wouldn’t come on this site to defend your personal life, but you brought your personal life into the forum by discussing your education.  Acting as a representative of United Readers Service, and in an effort to convince people that your company is honest and legitimate, you flat out lied.  You said “I have an English degree at a 4-year private college, focusing on MLA and APA style formatting.”   I really don’t care what your educational background is, but the fact that you fraudulently represented your qualifications while openly representing your company doesn’t look good for you, or United Readers Service.

Got a call from this number and got the same lines as everybody else. I was asked about the weather here in California and she shared with me her weather in Cleveland which today was very cold according to her. She explained to me I was a finalist and they wanted me to choose magazines to view and I could switch and change from over 400 different magazines. I told her I don't do sweepstakes as I think they are all scams.. She kept trying to convince me that I wanted to do this since it was an awesome deal! I told her if I am a finalist and have to buy anything I don't want to be a finalist!! She said I would remain in the sweepstakes anyway... She kept me on the phone a while using my cell minutes up!!

My experience with 866-802-7034 was the same as Tami's.  They said they were with Publisher's Headquarters in Ohio.  Once they verified my address they asked me how the weather was in Idaho and said it was nice in Ohio as well.  Once they started asking if I wanted to pick magazine subscriptions (apparently it was my wife who "won the prize") I said she wasn't home and figured I'd better check up on this.  Still don't know how they got my number...

Yeah I guess I'm just another victim of this call scam. I got a 2 calls actually and answered the 2nd call not knowing who it was. I was asked how's the weather blah blah blah and I politely answered all her questions knowing I wasn't going to buy anything.
After telling me about starter magazines I told her I was only interested in US Weekly. Then she asked me about other magazines that I liked but they all were not on her list. Magazines that I mentioned were Hooters, Instinct, Real Simple, & Martha Stewart Living. Total BS!

Gee thanks for nothing!

This is a MONEY LAUNDERING SCHEME. I personally know the owners of this company and have been investigating privately for years. These individuals have numerous names that this company operates under so it makes things harder to trace. This family owns several fraudulent businesses and uses the Readers Service to "clean" their cashflow.  The owners have friends in high places who accept cash "bonuses" in order to make complaints disappear. Please be aware of this company and be careful not to give them any of your information. They are dangerous scammers and members of an organized crime ring. Don't let them take advantage of you!
