http://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/consommateur/bien-s ... proche-famille/ This company works at recovering large debts from individuals who have disappeared under the radar and stopped paying their bills. They may try to find this person by contacting family members, especially if the sais debtor gave a family member's phone number as a means to contact him. They have the legal right to do so, but only ONCE. I contacted this company, insisted that my conversation be recorded for purposes of proof that I had reached them, I explained that I was not the subject of the recovery, that the person they were trying to reach no longer lived here and was moved out of my region, that they had my number because at that time this was his number and asked that they remove my number from their list, which they agreed to do. If they still persist, I will act within my rights and file a complaint with above identified federal/provincial agency.

Same as above, with this difference: I do owe money. However, I've been in touch with all of my creditors, and am up on all of my payments.
Before I called this number back, I checked the number at sites like these, thank god, so went in fore-armed.
I called and asked to know who they are and why they called: I was passed along to a "supervisor" who became very defensive and, frankly, quite abusive. I gave them NO information.
Here's what I suspect: they are bogus, but they may have access to info that suggests you owe money, or shows that your credit rating is poor. So, social engineers that they are, they play on your fears to extract info from you to which they have no right.
As suggested above, report this number and, if you owe money, contact your creditors directly.

This number is NCO financial. The guy said he was a debt collector but I know I owe no money anywhere so I refused to validate my information and he made it seem like I was gonna be in big trouble if I didn't. I make enought money I pay cash for most things - even my car was paid cash. No credit - so I know this is b***s***.
Since I didn't validate my info - I don't know where the scam is at. What I do know is I called late at night and it went to the "Wells Fargo" department. I thought "wells Fargo" was a company not a department!! That's not right.
Don't talk to these guys - if you owe anyone money talk to your creditor directly.
These guys are calling my phone 10x an hour. I've reported them.

866-829-1201 is from a supposed collection agency called NCO. they call you to tell you you have an account in arrears/collection with Telus/Bell/Rogers for example and then to verify that they are speaking with the write person by providing personal information such as address, DOB, other telephone # to reach you at, etc. in a word, BOGUS!!! i called the company that they said i owed monies to, whom i did not and have not an an account with for many, many years. i was told that the reference number provided by NCO was bogus, that i do not have any monies owing and not to give personal information to them.
