have gotten this call from this number and would like to know who was calling me

I just got this call twice in the last 5 minutes ... the first call there was a message but it was so broken up I couldn't tell what the recording was even saying. I googled it and it is a scam. Here is the link to the news story

I think those calls you got were from your local detention center.  Someone who has been arrested and is in the 'holding tank' may make free phone calls from the jail.  Otherwise the automated voice would have asked your permission to accept an exorbitant charge to your phone for 10 minutes of talk time with an inmate.
As soon as your phone answered, a recording began and when your voice mail connected to record the message from the caller, you only heard the end of the automated recording.

My cel number is one digit different than a large bail bond company hear in Las Vegas, and I get those calls from all 3 of our local jails, several times a week.

Just want to let everybody know about my experience. I have been receiving collect calls from correction facility number every day for more than a week form number 18668471251.
I tried to block this number through my cell phone service, "do not call list" and even through calling directly to jail without any results. Eventually, my son found a number for correction facility service:
18008446591, it is take a while to go through the different options until you get to the right one:
to block your number from any inmates calling through this service.
Thanks god, calls have stopped after that.
Hope it will help somebody else who is desperate.

Curious as to find out who called me. I cant think of anyone in jail but if someone needs me, I need to know who it is before I accept the charges.

Calls from this number is from a prison/jail - it can be from any state that provides this service  - someone puts money on an account so the inmate can call out. www.securus.net

Sorry to tell you this, but you WILL be charged the 9.99 because you authorized the charge by pressing "1".  Doesn't matter how long you were on the line...you authorized and approved the call.    I may or may not have been a scam... if you responded, they know there's a sucker at that number.   I would expect another call at any time.  Listen closely to the recorded name of who's calling you.  If you don't recognize them, HANG UP.

If the calls keep coming, don't even pick up the phone.  If they know they are wasting their time, they will eventually move on.

No I traced the number . And it is showing up right out my door and then moves.

I am getting calls from my girlfriend but when traced it it come up right out side my door. so I know she is not calling me from jail. what is real going on?

One of your buddies or fam probably got arrested and is trying to call you.  Normally think of someone who would call you if they got arrested, if they dont pick up phone or phone is off and you dont hear from them... Its probably them.

I dont understand why people only post what they "think" the phone call is.  THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!  What this number is, is someone YOU know personally.  They may have been picked up by local police or someone in county.   If you pick up right away youll hear who is actually trying to connect through and contact you.  Sometimes its a prepaid, where the "inmate" has a prepaid phone card, or money on their account.  If they dont, youll need to pay for it.  Theyll know other ways to talk to you for cheaper.  Google voice is normally free.  

Please stop thinking this is a scam its either a friend or family member that you may or may not want to talk too.  If you dont use the full 20 mins or whatever choice you choose itll save remaining for next time they call.  Normally if you say "yes" to accept phone call... itll allow you like 30 secs to talk to the person beforw transferring you to billing department.   Then you just hang up and not pay.  Theyre not allowed to charge your phine bill you have to enter you paymemt info

They called me today saying they were calling me from the Bay County Jail.

Received voice mail stating I could set up an account with the jail

No message called at 8:15 PM

So why would they not give you the name first.  20 years federal service

There is no person...THIS IS A SCAM to get money for answering or calling back! BLOCK THE CALLS & for the love of God, do not answer or call them back. Sheesh.

I would like to know how I can stop these calls from this number. I don't know anyone in Jail and certainly not going to accept any calls from them. There has to be a way that this can be stopped...

I got a miss call from this number and it left me a voice message saying this is Lias lawyer and then it says press one to talk for free and than it's says other thing and it jus went off

I keep getting calls from this number literally everyday and it always happens whenever I'm in school and I know this because whenever I pick up my phone I start listening to my music it always says that I have two missed calls from this number and it always leaves voicemails saying things like "if u have any unused minutes and would like to accept this call press 1" or something like that and it's getting really annoying and I want the calls to stop. Could someone please tell me how to stop these calls?!

866-847-1251 keeps calling and leaves no message.  Obviously it is a scam to get money from unsuspecting victims so I don't answer the call.  If it's a jail calling the inmates need to be contained with more restraint.  

Received 10 calls from this number today. Thing is, I am in Canada and do not know anyone in any prison in Canada or the USA or anyone else. And based on the numerous posts I have read here, all the calls originate in the USA.

They are pretty quick to let you know that the fee to accept the call will be $14.95 and can be paid right away via credit card.

To me, this is a scam as there is no way legitimate calls would be so poorly recorded and executed.

Block the number on your phone and if necessary notify the phone company as well as your local law enforcement officials.

ESPECIALLY if you are a Canadian getting these calls and know of none of your friends or family travelling in the USA
