your local office wherever that is.. would not have a record of calling you because they are not the ones who called you. if you visit the census website you can find more about the the calls that are being made and the legitimacy. and they will just keep calling till the interview is complete

I feel I am being harrassed by the US government.  They called me on Saturday and then on Sunday. They wanted to verify the information from the form I sent in. I told him I filled out the original census and signed it.  Apparently my signature doesn't count for anything.  The government wants to take control of our lives completely!!!  I say.....LET FREEDOM RING!!!!!!  They left a demanding message the 2nd time that made me feel threatened.  I know longer feel safe in my own country!

I received a message, I am under the impression that if there is any issues w/ your US Census Form, a Census Taker will come to your home.  This request for a return phone call is in direct conflict w/ this statement.

I was skeptical when reading all these postings, but it's legit.  The worker pointed me to census.gov and showed the phone number posted there is what I called.  They did not ask for a SS# & DOB or anything person info beyond name and address.  The questions were not personal, just asked to confirm if anyone else lived in the house, or if I had a second or vacation home that I might have been counted at, or if anyone lived in an assisted living facility or group home.  I was cautious, but it's fine - you can return their call.

Hmmm... I just ignored them again. But after reading this forum, sounds like it might be legit. It also occurs to me the having a phone number ending in 2010 (as in 2010 census) seems a little too far fetched for a scammer.

My wife got a call from them also.  We were not married when we talked to the people from the census.  Her name was not the same as mine at that time.  They called her by her new name and not her old name.  This is BOGUS!!!  Don't talk to them...

<<Absolutely 100% legit. None of these questions are at all invasive. It took about 6-7 minutes and the <<woman on the other end was extremely friendly. Please return their call.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

they have also been internationally calling several Canadians  where U.S. law does NOT apply and telling them it's the law they havde to apply and that there's a mistake on their U.S. census forms.

Now, Canadian phone numbers are not assigned to the U.S.

Assuming this is legitimate like you say it is, then

why is the U.S. Census Bureau calling Canadians also?'

Does the U.S. plan to invade and takeover Canada like they did Iraq???

I received multiple calls from this number on my cell phone.  The problem I have is that I never listed my cell phone number anywhere on the Census Form

I have received multiple calls from this number on my cell phone.  I finally answered and the person stated that they were with the US Census and wanted me to verify some information.  I never listed my cell number on the cesus form.  How did they get my cell number?   I think it is a scam and these people are cold calling phone numbers and gathering personal information.

The same # just called my cell phone which was not on the census we sent in.  The man rattled something I did not understand, so I answered with "What?"  He then asked me if the number he had reached was blah blah blah.  I said no you have the wrong number.  He then asked if my name was such and such spelled blah blah blah or if it was such and such spelled blah blah blah.  I said no and he said, after a pause, "This is the census bureau and  that is all the questions I have for you this evening, Ma'am." I hung up. Obviously, whoever was on the line was trying to get me to say what number and name they had reached. I would advise anyone getting this call to hang up.  Even if it is legit, it is not mandatory to take the call and you will not be punished for ignoring it.

"why is the US Census Bureau calling CANADIANS also? Does the US plan to invade and take over Canada like they did Iraq? "

Gee, I sure hope not! On the other hand I could only find 50 States on my map of the USA,so I wondered why Mr. Obama thoughtthere were 57 States.
Maybe he IS planning to invade Canada, take it over and create 57 new states!
Guess he`s checking out Canadian demographics before he makes his final decision to invade. Goodbye, Canada, it`s been nice knowing ya!

Guess a lot of people are'nt sure why the
census bureau is calling, especially on my cell.
They must be getting a lot of flack, because he accused me of having attitude. I filled mine out, but I guess it's not good enough. What the hell is going on with this whole thing.  More money spent on nothing.  Stimulus I guess.  Is there a number to call to verify the authenticity or to complain?

Get repeated calls from 866-851-2010 saying they are calling from the census.  One recorded message stated their hours of operation which did NOT include Sunday, which is when I got the recorded message & a person tried to call live an hour before then also on Sunday. This has to be a hoax to get info for fraud/identity theives, etc.

I got a call from these people.  They asked me my name.  I did not provide it.  I asked him his name; he gave his first name only...something like Ramone...  He gave me the number referenced above 866-851-2010 and a case number.  I figure if they want something, they can send it via USPS, just like the census was...I'm not biting--

The US plans to invade Canada?  Aren't there more people in the state of California than Canada? What are we going to name it after we invade; and what will be the postal code? Because CA is alreasy being used by California and all the mail would go there instead.  Can California handle all that mail? Would that mean that Shania Twain is a US citizen afterwards or like a POW? I really like her...and Dana Carvey...and Moosehead...and Santa Claus...and syrup--or is that just the flag?

Got a call claiming to be from the US Census Bureau, said they wanted to verify some info. on our census form.   I told them that they could look at the form I filled out.  They said they didn't have it in front of them.  I refused to give any info and they claimed they would keep calling and calling until they got the info.  Received another call about 1 hour later.  Didn't answer.

Please go to 2010 census. Gov website and look up the coverage follow up operation. On the census form it even says when u put your number they can call u if they have any questions. This number is not a scam they verify ur info as soon as u supply ur first name and they only ask yes or no q's to make sure no one was counted more than once or left out of the census.

The 2010 Census benifits everybody, this call everyone is recieving is the Coverage Follow Up Survey, they dont ask for any kind of personal info, The call usualy dont even take 5 minutes, The call is just clarifing the responses listed on the census form for the household. The  interview is just wanting to make sure that the Census gets the most accurate count as possible. They  are not criminals trying to sell  nformation, who would want to buy the information they get, its useless. Yes it is required by law, Title 13 of the U S Code. Where have people been, this isnt the first census that has ever been taking, so dont get mad about the yes or no questions that you are asked, the agent that you will talk to on the phone did not just come up with the questions. And YES the U S Censu Bureau is open on Saturday  and Sunday  so dont be alarmed.

They called twice:  at 8pm and 730pm.  They asked me if someone else lived at my house besides me - relatives, non-relatives, etc.  Then they called back and asked if I had spent time away from my house, lived anywhere else, lived in a mental facility, spent time in jail, etc.  I couldn't believe it!  I lived in my mobilehome for 25 years and lived with no one else!  What is our government doing? I garden, work, and have 3 cats.  I am one of the most low-key people around.  Are they trying to twist answers and people and alienate us?  I told them that if they didn't stop this intrusion I would hang up.  They didn't stop and I hung up.

In case anyone missed the message...

The calls have been coming from 866-851-2010, which is just one digit “off” a legitimate Census bureau number of 866-861-2010.

Am I wasting my time? I hate scammers. ...and don't buy anything online from Accent Uniforms...never got the merchandise or my money back. :)

Census people.
The lady I spoke with was very professional and polite.  She didn't ask any personal questions at all.  They just want to make sure that every person in your household is counted only once, that's all.  It took 3 min 42 sec to answer those questions.  There's nothing to be afraid of...
