I got called by 866-859-2010.  I called Census at 866-851-2010.  They said the 859 number was for a different language than Engrish. So I guess it is legitimate.

I received one of these calls saying from U S Census Bureau on the 4th of July --- I find it hard to believe the U S Census Bureau would be working at 8:30 p.m. on the 4th of July so I deleted the message.  It sounded to much like a scam.

I work for the Census Bureau and received one of these calls, they are fake, If the real Census Bureau normaly it is to schedule a personal visit because we have gone to the home in person at least 3 times and left messages at the door. also the first thing real workers will know is the adress for whom they are calling so if these guys call don't give any information, i called them back and got an answer from enterpise car sales, i will be reporting it to my supervisers.

Scammer pure and simple.  We got a call Sunday night at 10:30pm, well outside of normal business hours, which in addition woke us up as we have early job shifts.  We are Canadian Citizens, born in and residing in Canada.  We owe nothing to the US Census board and they have absolutely no reason to be contacting us.

In Canada even if someone shows up at your door with a clipboard claiming to be from the Census Bureau, they are required to show you official identification (hologram Federal Gvt ID with photo).  If you don't see this you can slam the door in their face.  Prior to anything, you are to receive mailed notification from the Canadian Government telling you exactly when a Census agent will be contacting you, and where you can reach them if they miss you.

But above all-  it is against the law to request private information over the phone, no matter what type it is.  You owe these people, or anyone who telephones for that matter, NOTHING.

Get your whistles out and blow it loud and clear in the agent's ear when you see this XXX-2010 number show up.

Iwas part of a door-to-door census survey in June.  However, two weeks ago I received a telephone call as a "follow up" to the survey to clarify my answers and was subjected to a series of yes or no questions.

When I inquired about the nature of the follow-up, I was told that it was part of the "Paperwork Project 0607-0946."  I am very concerned that I that this was a scheme for identity theft.

It defies logic, I understand, but we only have until the end of the year to finish a population Census for more than 300 million US residents. Ahh ... yes, we were working on the 4th of July ... at 8:30 pm. Sad but true. Are persistent Census phone calls bothersome? Probably if the respondent refuses to provide any information. The Census is in fact authorized by law, Title 13 of the U.S. Code. The U.S. Census is stating that the survey is required by law, however the ramifications of non-participation will more than likely not go beyond simply being contacted until the data is captured and the case is closed. Its your government.

So, the gov't is above the law?   Calling someone at 830pm is outside of the guidelines for calling.
What I don't understand is...   I filled out my forms, had someone come to my door to verify that... NOW I have to field phonecalls to verify the verifier?   Ah.. American govt... blowing taxpayer dollars daily.   Just my 2 cents, but how about instead of paying for stupid phonecalls to verify information 3 times.... how about using that money to PAY the very schools you are doing this census for?   Ridiculous.
Plain and simple...  I wont give any info over the phone.   I might VERIFY it, but I wont GIVE you the info that you can plainly see on your screen.   Otherwise..   figure out how to show me your badge over the phone....   or if you REALLLLLLY need my info once again - send someone out so I can see their badge.   I don't care IF you are the govt...   you are harassing.
Also...   I only have a cell phone.   Ill be damned if I will spend 15 minutes of my money to triple verify infomation.

They've called me 4 times in as many days. Finally asked for a supervisor. "John" took my call. John's faint accent seemed Indian. The woman who called said her name was Gabriela and when I asked for her number she (possibly inadvertently)  gave me her personal cell phone. I could report it here but I won't, unless they call me a 5th time

I received a call at 2:16 p.m., Saturday, May 22 from someone who said that his name was Richard and later Richard Bonau who said that he was from the U.S. Census Beurua calling to verify data which I had sent it  immediately after I recievd the form from the U.S. census and had even complained to my county supervisor about the U.S. Census form because it arrived in March but was postdated to April 1 and had questions about whether at that time ( would) occupy my home on April 1, so I answereed my census form immedicatley in March, but complained about the post-dating proceure ( it is called postdaing regardless of the fact that a futre date was appended to the census form.)  I could have kept my orginal form unitl April 1 and then filled it out; however, I was afraid that if I left the form lying around the house for the two or three weeks that it would have taken in order to fill out the form on April 1 that I would have lost the form by then-- so I promptly filled it out and sent it back within a few days of having received the form.

I have been plagued by various people claiming that they were from the Census Bureau for one week, two calls were recieved last Friday night, followed by two more subsequent calls on the following  Saturday and Sunday and each time I told the callers, who were ignorant sounding women who called from 866-851-2010 that I was postive that they were not Census buerau workers and rpesented a Fraud.  The final call I received was from a man who called from 866-859-2010, a differnt number, and asked me questions about the census form which I had filled out. He also read to me vrious prusoes which he said were the true purose of the Census and claimed that the data for the Census went to the U.S. office of Management and Budget where he claimed it was being done succesisvely-- I had read that there ws a controversy brewing over moving this department to the White House;  my husband , however informed me that the federal agency repsonsibel for the cenuss ws orignally the Commerce Daprtment and that IRS agents now were conducting cenusus surveys-- and I think that this is more erronoues ifrmomation even coming from my husband who insists that the census and teh IRS anre combine now and sharing data so that the IRS may put the squeesze on American taxpayers in order to try to wring out every tax dollar form most of the the residents of the U.S.,be they immigrants who are here legally or illegally or orindary U.S. citizens.

At ary rate, I checked the Census callers last week and found out that the Census number was listed on the computer page with bogus and crank calls, so I efnitely knew aht teh calls was bogus last week.  I suspspected that the caller suppsoedly from the U.S census this week was also bogus, a man this time, and I kept talking to him.  He appeared to have all of the information , again obtained from the census ifrmation i sent in  to the U.S. census Buearu inmrach,.  However, my husband also claims that there are U.S. censusp contractors or other Contracotrs invovled in thsi bogus Census Phfishing scam who have had leaked government Census data supplied to them from someone else who works for the U.S. ensus Bueuarou and has access to government files-- and this seems very true to me.

When I called back th e supplied cneus number, which I also traced via *57, I recievd a recording in Spanish.  However, I stayed on the line until someone who spoke English answered.  I was told my this second man who claimed to work for the cenuss that this was the official Spanish speaking tlephone census lien.  I then became incensed because a suppsoed Census worker had clled me fromt he ddicated Hispanic lien to veify census data-- and to me this was done because my hsuband's surname ends in a vowel but is actually not an Hispanic surname but is an Anglicized name which is acutlly French in origin and not in the least a Spanish surname.  In addition, no one in my husband's family or in my family speak a foreing language which was not learnign in either high school or college.  Everyone in both of our families and our extended families are birth right Americans, amost of whom have been in this coutnry with roots which go back in some cases for 200 years, 300 years in other cases, and some which only go back to the middle 19th century.

However, it appeared to me that someon had deliberately trageting indiviudals whose surnames end in vowles for this particular scam, or at least that was the target today because when I called the number back I recevied the recording in Spanish-- and I vocifereoulsy complained about the recording in Spanish because to my way of thinking too much has been done to accomodate speakers of Spanish, and also to my way of thinking, if one is a naturalized citizen, that naturalized citizen also ought to be conversant in English which really should be the U.S. oficial language of both trade, commerce and every other offical purpose.  This bi-lingual deal tend to polarize countries.  However, I am not the first to say this.  These same thoughts were expressed by the late Senator S.I. Haikawa.

However, Hiakawa's view of U.S. English notwithstanding, I now see that even the call I received this evenign supsoedly form the U.S. census Bureua also was a scam.  Otherwise, this number for the U.S. Census would not have appeared on-line sans offical ntationa that it was in fact a legtiamte U.S. governmetn number.  In addition, I wish I had known that census workers ONLY come to the door and do not call people over the telephone regarding  verifying their census form.

When I called back the tlephone number, suppsoedly from the U.S. census Bureua, I was told by the indivudal ansering the tlephoen that actually this year, all resoendent to the U.S. Census were receving a persoanl tlephone call in order to verify that the data submitted on the census form was in fact accurate and that the form had been filled out correctly!

I then complained and said that in my pinion calling respdents ove the telphone ws a complete waste of U.S. tax payer money.  To this the suppsoed Cemsus worker said tha tthe data ws needed to determine the distruction of socai  services, educational grants and so forth-- to which i also obejcted because to the very best of my knwoeldge, the real reason for the U.S. censusus is to count the number of US. cisitizen in a given district for the purposed of congressional redistricting and for detrmiening voter representation, not for all of the purposes for which the said census worker claimed.

I truly hoep that the answers which were supplied to me were not the real answers for conducting the census because to me, and from amy anscient civics classes, the ONLY purose of the census is to botin voter infromation for the purpose of drawing up congressional districts.

In addition, I ws provided with the follwoing address and eamil link to which to send my complains about the census survery:

U.S. Census Buerau/ 4600 Silver Hill Road/Room 3L138/ Washignton DC 20233
or email aperwprk@census.gov, and on the subject line oput: Paper Project 0607-0946.

In writng to the Cesus Buearua , I was supposed to sent complaint to the Associate Director for Administration/ Paperwork Project 0607-0946 at the U.S. census Buereau.

Scam or not, this entire thing to me was a complete wate of time-- and obvisouls a fishing or phishing expectiion in which someone apparently was already provided with previously sent and tbulated responsie to the U.S. Cenuss.  I was asked over the tlephone questions soley related to infromation whch i already had submittied.

If this call had ben legitmate, then why question the data which I had submitted in the first place?  Are not Census Owrkers supposed to make quereis about data which had NOT been submitted in respeonse to the sedningout of the census form?

If the Census call ws in fact a scame, it was very evident to me that the caller had in his/her possess data from the form which I already had filled out and submitted to the cenus burueau.

So either way, regardless of whether or not it was a legitmate call to verify submitted data, a form of tlepone harassment, or simply a fishing expediition, there is much to complain about regarding this entire operation!

No time really to proof or edit typos.  My husband has been pering ove my shoulder and mking my repsonse rather diffiuclt to make.  I had promised to reprot the previous bogus cenus call to his own IRS contact-- and never did.

The calls are scams.  When I called back they asked me to verify the inforamtion on the census form.  First was my name.  I said I would verify the name THEY had on the form.  They said they could not give me the information over the telephone.  I told them I could not give them the information also over the phone.  When they kept pushing, I informed them that my brother was a captain in the police force in Massachusetts and I was keeping them on the phone so the police could trace this call they IMMEDIATELY hung up.  IT IS A SCAM....DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.  If the census people needed additional information, they knock on your door in person.  These people are fishing for your personal inforamtion to make charges on your credit cards or withdraw money from your bank account.

Received a call from the Census Bureau.  They said they had questions about the census form we sent in.  Verified names and address.  Rest of the questions were if anyone else had lived in the house (relatives / non relative), and if those we listed on the form had lived anywhere else (nursing home, summer home, jail).  Took about 5 mins.  They didn't ask for phone numbers, credit card info, email addresses, bank accounts, etc.

I have been called by this number several times. The last time I was threatened by the supervisor to be arrested by the FBI under US code 13. I told them I wanted off their list I was again threatened. I called the US Attorneys office in MPLS and then the FBI in MPLS. I ended up talking to Dennis R. Johnson, Regional Director in my area. The guy at the front desk told me that it was a valid U.S. Census number. The director however told me it was close, but not their number. Call the Census bureau in your region and report them!
