Just received mail from BOA that my checking account (which I never use) has been overdrawn.....$40 has been taken out of it twice now and it is going to "Smart Step Insurance".
I called 866-879-0179 (It's saturday so they are closed) and got a recording which started off by identifying themselves as "Charter Marketing Services".
I personally feel that BOA is responsible and should have done something about this fraud years ago. BOA did say they are affiliated with SSI.
Did file an electronics complaint with BOA who said they would not let any more deductions be made and also told me to phone the 866 #.
Will now go to BBB and file a complaint....and on Monday the poor person at BOA is going to get an earfull.
I am so MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well here is a wopper! I don't even bank with B of A!! My information has been stolen and for 3 years now someone who has opened an account online with my info and has kept open a checking and savings account. I have JUST received info regarding an overdraft of $20 ( a few times) to my current address from B of A. I am currently investigating this issue- and so far these electronic withdraws have been linked to "smart step"-  so basically a thief is being rip off by a thief! Boy!, I am glad I don't bank with Bank of America!! I really hope this all gets exposed!!

I have had two serious surgeries and not been able to keep checking my bank statements.....also I trust BOA as I have had them for about 8 years or more.  Now I am in the same position of all the complaints I am tonight finding on the computer.  I am 78 , just had triple bypass, I am on a fixed small income and every penney counts for me to get by.  What can I do to recover the money stolen fromn my account?   Maybe there is a lawyer out there who has been robbed by these people and will post on the net a way that we can get our money and put these crooks out of business.  I have no phone #s nor addresses or business names, no paper work of any kind, so any help from someone out there help me and all these others.

It seems this number belongs to Smart Step Insurance. They have been deducting $20.00 from my Bank of America checking account since April 08. These charges were unauthorized. It seems the only real solution is to close the bank account and open another one. The bank have to way of stopping online debit from a company. They have to enter the exact amount. So they can stop $20.00 this month but not the total balance next month.

I called to have this policy ($20/month) cancelled over 9 months ago and it never happened. Called back recently to cancel and the operator answered, "Bank of America" which confused me....I explained that I was trying to research a charge on my account and thought I was calling a company called Smart Step Ins.  The operator said, "I'm sorry, you have the wrong number."  Had I not seen this website, I would still be searching the internet for Smart Step!
I never received a packet when I supposedly enrolled in the program a year ago.  I asked for another copy of the policy which they said would arrive in 7-10 business days in a BOA envelope.

866-879-0179 "National Union Fire Insurance Company" -I have received over a dozen calls from this company- usually the caller just hangs up when I ask for their name & number.  The calling number is ALWAYS blocked.  As many as 3-4 calls in one day over the last couple of months- I often recognize the caller's voice now.  I am on the Do Not Call list & have registered a complaint.  I have also called BOA customer service to make sure they are aware of the type of businesses they are allowing to damage their reputation & harass their customers.

when these people call just say these exact words "please put me on your do- not-call-list, and I am not interested in any of your offers". the people that call you are telemarketers that are hired by a intermediary between the calling company and BOA. they basically do whatever they have to do conjur up sales with people they call, so if you're not very firm with them they will do anything they can to persuade you into thinking it's just a free trial, but in reality it will start deducting money out of your account every month until you call to cancel. If you say anything like "i dont want to be called again" or "take me off the list" they are actually obligated by BOA to NOT take you off the list because you need to say the words "Do Not Call List" in order for them to actually stop calling you. sadly I used to work at a place that called BOA customers trying to sell the Smart Step Plan, it's an extremely shady business and they get complaints/lawsuits all the time as far as I could tell.

This has gone on for 18 months; I too thought it was just co-pay for the many doctors we've been seeing since my Dad got sick 2+ years ago.  It's tough to know exactly legit bills because we've been juggling medical care between four siblings.

Me too;  I am embarrassed to say $560, and probably more.  There is more than just this website with people who have been robbed, and how many people do not post.  This is a BOA problem.  I am contacting the media.

It's an insurance company that makes offers to BOA customers. Apparently they have been taking $20 out of my bank account since September of 2006 and I just noticed this. I never accepted or got any papers. I'm personally calling fraud and gonna try to get the money back.
