Good chance that they are using some special software that displays incorrect info on the caller ID. The number shown isn't their actual number, which may be why if you call it back there is no answer and it's quickly disconnected. Or you get a recording the number not in service.

Several calls from this number and when I answer, they gang up.

Call hang up at 425 pm.  Apparently hung up as soon as answering machine came on.  When I get home I do a *69 to see if some jerks have been calling.  Yes, they sure have been lately.  A lull after the election -- but they are baaacccckkkk for whatever reasons.  I was so pleased when the political robo calls quit since they are not on the DNC list.  Only get about one a week from politicians about a town hall or something.  Better than drowning in them.  However, illegal robo calls will not stop until their numbers are constantly reported to the FCC and they can figure out a way to track them down based on the "pattern" that they use for calling.

Getting tired of the constant calls.  Almost wonder why I have a phone, when the telemarketers use it more than I do.

When I answer, there's no one there.  When I call the number back, it tells me it's no longer in service.  Frustrating!

Whoever these yo-yos are, the called my DNC listed private phone, but there was no one on the other end.  The call will be reported to the FCC as an abandoned call.

Actually, a lot of times it is indeed a cold call but they're not trying to find out what time you're home.  Autodialers continously dial phone number but they don't always have someone available to pick up when someone answers, so the call gets "dropped."  And, to be honest, I highly doubt your 'trick' would work.  It might work if you use the tone that precedes the message that "this call cannot be completed as dialed" but not from pressing the # repeatedly.  When you get the message about "if you would like to make a call..." that means the call has long since disconnected from the original caller; so you can press # to your heart's content, it won't make a difference to the autodialer because you're no longer connected to them.  The autodialer, and its masters, are not there to hear you pressing buttons.  ;-)

I kept getting a call from this # 866-948-0583..I answered it and no one answered...Called the number back and it saying it was "NO LONGER IN SERVICE"...so who is this and what are they after?

This number calls me everyday. Sometimes more than once.   I finally called it back. It said, This number is no longer in service. How do they call out if it's no longer in service?

When I called back it said "This number is no longer in service." Then how do they call out?

Received a call from this phone number, and when I called the number back, within seconds after they called our house, I received a recording that stated "The following number is no longer in service."  They have called our house several times, but never leave messages.  We are on the "DO NOT CALL" list, and recently updates our "DO NOT CALL" phone numbers.  This is extremely frustrating.  My guess is that it is a Telemarketer or a freakin' scam!

Recieved  call from this number answered and noone says anything then line goes to dial tone, called back and recording says no longer in service.

This is NOT a political scam call, it is from an automated system operated by Verizon. They are making calls to blocks of landlines to see which ones are still active. That's why the hangup and the line doesn't work when you call it back. I have a friend that works for Verizon and verified what they are doing.

I am told this number is coming from the delta outsource group (google them).They are a company of scum collection agents and nothing more.They will be getting no money from me at all no matter how much they call.I have a cell phone so I can take my land line off the hook all day long if need be.Someone should get the phone number of these scum workers for this company and call them 24/7 for about a month.Trash like these people need to be stopped period.

I received a call from this number at 8:10pm on Sunday evening.
There was no one on the other end.
I hung up and dialed the number back.
The answer was "I am sorry.  This number is no longer in service".

Contact the FTC and report these calls.  I did when living in AZ and the calls stopped.  Good luck.R8Y3

Same as the rest. I let my machine answer, there was a long pause, then the line was disconnected. My guess is that it's political.

CID said Toll Free Caller. Had other Toll Free's with a different number mixed in with all the political calls. Simple rule in this house...if you don't know who is calling, don't answer the phone. This one only rang 3 times before it disconnected.

Isn't there a law against making sales calls on a Sunday?
Normally that's the only day my phone gives me any peace, but Nooooo - whoever this jerk is calls and hangs up without leaving a message.

I do not know who is calling from this number, but I wish they would stop. They do not talk just call and hang up. They call at all hours.  Rude, very rude!.
