I agree that is the scammers saying that it is not a scam.  I was called my job 3 days. - they may call again tomorrow.  My Cap 1 is up-to-date.

i received a call gave my card number and was asked my social,ended the call after social was given and called main line 3372371798

After receiving the same BS calls about accounts that are current with zero balances I called back.  FIrst question from this fake Cap 1 is for me to give them my full 16 digit account #.  I refused, so asked for full SSN#.  Again I refused.  Went to local Cap 1 branch and message was VERY clear. NO reputable CC or bank EVER ask for your full numbers.  They called you, they have them already.  This was the message I received from a branch manager AT a Cap 1 location. He was even kind enough to call their internal fraud department and we both spoke to an agent regarding my accounts and even the Cap 1 fraud department said I was in good standing and no one from Cap 1 had or should be contacting me.

I presume the folks saying this is legit are either ignorant or are the scammers that are trying to trick folks again.

This is NOT a scam.  I've never seem so many people in paranoid denial.  This is a number for Cap1 COLLECTIONS.  If you call cap1 at the number on the back of your card, they will of course tell this is not one of their numbers.  They are correct, but again this is for COLLECTIONS which is a 3rd party subcontracted by Cap1 to get the money you owe them.

For those that say snail mail is how they would be contacting you to resolve these matter...I pose this question...What age do you live in?  Everything is done by email or phone calls, in order to streamline (easier and faster using today's technology) and save dollars.

Very definitely a scam. I do have a CapitalOne account, but (1) there's nothing wrong with the account, and (2) the phone number I'm getting the calls on is not the number that CapitalOne has on file, but a Magic Jack number that I've never given to anyone, and don't even use.

I've been getting these calls daily for a couple of months now. I have little doubt that CapitalOne would not p****off a model customer like that. Ignore these calls.

I called Capital One to verify if this is one of their numbers and the verified that it is NOT one of Capital One's numbers.  Don't give them any information.

This is a scam, I called Capital One after they had sent me a letter about my account, im a month behind no problem i paid it, this was yesterday, these people called today saying i was behind and asked for my information. And then when i told them no i had already paid it and talked to someone yesterday they hung up.

It's a scam. Please don't give them any info. If you need to discuss Cap One business, use the number on the back of your card.

BTW, my husband was sitting here when I made the call. He took the phone after they continued questioning me. He started asking them questions they couldn't or wouldn't answer and demanded they remove our number because we're on the Do Not Call list. They said they couldn't.

He then told them he would call the BBB if they didn't remove us from the list. At that point, they finally agreed to remove us. Mention the Better Business Bureau and that should stop the calls.

Got the daily msgs left on cell voicemail. Finally decided to call them from home phone. They asked for my name then my account number. NEVER give your acct #!

This definitely is a scam. My account is always paid in full in advance every month. Legitimate Capital One business is done via snail mail. Even then, be cautious. I've had other "airlines" use that for their scams.

The person, I think Dennis, who posted to several people defending the number's legitimacy must be associated with the scam.

I don't know who this caller is but they start at 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM
If it is a bill collector I don't know why they would continue to call.

I take care of my brother's finance's because he can't read and write, His credit card bills are
paid faithfully every month. The family was unaware that he had been given credit cards and now they
are calling several time a day. I don't know what they want as the bills are being paid.

I really want this to stop.

866-953-7906 is Cap-1. I worked out repay options and they were very nice. This number is nothing to worry about. Not a scam.

THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!! I got the same message that they needed to talk to me blah blah blah. So I called the number on the back of my card and of course they had no record of anybody calling me and told me they would be reporting it to there security department immediately......... Just out of curiosity I called the number the woman left on my machine and it says capital one but its not them they automatically asked for my personal information and when I told them the story they hung up on me.

Definitely a scam.  They have been calling for months (thank God for answering machines).  Our card is paid in  full long before the due date every month.  Ignore "Linda".

Two months ago I got this "important business matter" call , called back the number and they said they were calling from Cap One collections because my last payment was ONE CENT too low.  The guy asked for my DOB and I said no.  End of calls.  But today recorded message comes in again.    I call back. A guy with ridiculously fake Texas drawl  asks right off for  my  Cap One account number.    I refuse but  do offer  my street address instead.  He indicates that  he can see my last statement (I ask what is interest charged means and he says "you mean the $14.17?" which is correct on statement) but can provide me with no,   NO, other information. I ask to speak to supervisor, get put on terminal hold. Something is up I am sure. Each time they do get a bit more info on you.  Who knows.  I am calling cap one security.

ur wrong..im a retired usps mail carrier..some companies will not send u anything...cost effectiveness..so u might as well just b a man and call them get it over with and thats it..as i did.. the 866 953 7906 is a good number to capital one...we all r going thru hard times..i got a real nice woman on the phone and she took care of me.. her name was marisa ask for her..i just found this website at least i can help sum1.. good luck..

ur sooo right!!! i have an account also, came upon hard times..hell i only have a 200.00 limit but, times r tough..not doing deliberatly not paying..so i called and worked it out with capital 1...and marisa whom i talked to was soo very nice 2 me..cant beat that!! beats them screaming at u.. u get more flies with huney then with vinegar..yipppp... so tks for working with me..Capital One..

I don't even have a Captial One Card....Its a scam...The man that answered the phone sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles and was talking low...Thats why I check up on the internet so see if anyone eles had this problem..They need to disconect the phone #.....

I have 2 credit cards with Capital One, one of which has a sizeable balance but is paid every month on time.  The 2nd is paid in full every month.  I got a call from someone saying they were from Capital One (with Capital One 813-274-1837 showing up on my Caller ID).  They called on Fri. Dec. 23, again Sat. Dec. 24 and again Mon. Dec.26.  I haven't answered any of the calls so they have left the same message that it is an important matter with Capital One and give the 866-953-7906 number to call back.  I don't intend on calling them back or answering their calls when they call.  I figure if it is legit, they will send me a notice by mail concerning my account.

Same deal...........called after getting 5 autocalls this week, despite knowing that my account was up to date.  Immediate question was: can I please have your 16 digit account number, my response:  but you called me? what do you want?.....didn't give any info out and then called real Cap 1 security and they informed me that nothing was pending and that it was a scam.

They said I was in good standing and apologized for calling. Only after I hung up did I wonder it's validity. I called Cap One and reported it. They did not have a record of them calling me on Sat. nor the one I just had, where the guy said "I'll note it on your acct".  That said, I put a freeze on my credit with all 3 credit rptg agencies.

This is NOT a collection agency, it is a SKAM!  It sounds like Capital One but is isn't.  After giving them my information, they were going to transfer me to some kind of customer relations and then hung up.  I tried the number again and again  hung up.  I called the "real" Capital One and reported the incident to them and they changed my card number.  I called the people back and told them what to do.

This is Collections for Capital One.  I just returned a call to them.  I am filing Ch 7 BK.  Gentleman was very kind and took down my info so that i would not receive further calls.  I've been really surprised at how nice every creditor or collection personnel has been.  My suggestion to anyone going through a similar situation, such as a bankruptcy, is to answer the phones and speak to the creditor or collection agency. Give them the info regarding your attorney's name and phone number and you'll feel better and they'll stop hounding you with phone calls.  Way better than ignoring the calls and having to listen to the phone ringing off the hook throughout the day.  Good luck to everyone.
