I received a msg. on January 23, 2014 stating that I they want to speak to me about tax fraud and that I should show them some courtesy and return the call at (866) 978-8046.  I proceed to do a search on Google and found that this is BS.

I got phone call saying call is from IRS.
Person called for money to pay in one hour to aviod arrest.
It was threathening and stressful. I talked to IRS office and heard that they do not do type of act.
I think these people should be punished for using IRS name and threathening language.

I think person and his supervisor had indian or Pakinstani accent.

Same issue.. Said there is a legal petition and will be arrested within hours.. For no reason Got scared to death

So annoying, I see people have forwarded this number to the police, irs,FTC, and it hasn't helped. is there anyway to make them stop?? My parents are old, they don't deserve this

Just got a call from this number.

I said I am recording the call and will report to the FCC. He got loud and hung up.  He claimed to be from the IRS with a warrant for me for 'tax fraud'.

to RM and AK = I received the same call short while - exactly same thing happened to me. I sensed a fraud when he (Raymond Hoffman! said to electronic transfer from Rite-aid. I called the police (from another line) and they confirmed that they have been recieving these calls all day !! Just hang up!

This person said that he is from the IRS and harassing me and my daughter Sheerina Karim

I got a call just now from 866 978 8046 and wants to take some money (through a electronic reloadable voucher which I can get from RiteAid or Radio Shack) in the next 45 mins or else I will be arrested
his name is Raymond Hoffman.

CAn someone please advise on what I should do.

I received 3 calls today ( 1/21/2014 ) and he threatened me, identified him as Daniel Jackson
and he could  not even speak clearly.

Do not give out personal information to this caller. I received multiple calls from a man claiming to be Tim Harris. He later transferred the call to a very rude and disrespectful woman. She constantly kept threatening me, stating the police would arrive at my door with a court notice within thirty minutes. These people are tax scammers.

Got call from IRS 866 978 8046. And I connect him to police hotline and recorded the whole conversation.

my client rec'd a call from this number, someone left message he was from the IRS and threatening to have him arrested if he didn't pay his taxes.  Scared wife to death.  Could have been for anyone, and a wrong number!!!!
The IRS NEVER leaves messages like that: it's a privacy act violation!  

I have received at least four to five a calls from these people in this past week. Just this morning they have called three times. Very aggressive and obnoxious. They are using different numbers to call -- I have received calls from 866 978 8046 and from 866 406 2283.

I received a call from a person identifying himself as Jim Harrison and he did sound East Indian, said, he was from the Tax Audit Dept at the IRS and demanded I pay $1694.  I said, I needed to talk to a lawyer first and he became rude and threatening, saying If I hang up, I would be picked up by State Troopers in 30 minutes and could also be deported.  I said how, I am a US Citizen and he came back with "but you are not born" here.  At that point, I did hang up.  Suggest you do the same.

I got the same call on 1/11/2014, threatening me to pay $2284 other wise I will get arrested in 45 minutes, they want to pay me by electronic voucher from 7-11 or rite aid and they want to be on my cell phone all the time. finaly I said get lost do what ever you want to do I will not pay.

Just got a very similar call on a Saturday morning ... For second time ... Very annoying ... He used loud, rude voice last time ... I used loud rude voice before he had a chance and told him in not so polite words  to get lost ... Do not fall for this scam ...

I received a call from a Indian guy identified himself as Sean Schaffer and calling from IRS.This call was received from 1866-978-8046.He threatened me that I will be arrested with in an hour and all my assets will be frozen by IRS.He asked me to go to near by KMART,711,or RiteAid and make an electronic payment of $1898.00 .He also threaten me that I shouldn't drop the call until I make the payment.Do not entertain him if you get such calls.

The IRS is warning the public about a phone scam that targets people across the nation, including recent immigrants. Callers claiming to be from the IRS tell intended victims they owe taxes and must pay using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The scammers threaten those who refuse to pay with arrest, deportation or loss of a business or driver?s license.

The callers who commit this fraud often:
?Use common names and fake IRS badge numbers.
?Know the last four digits of the victim?s Social Security number.
?Make caller ID appear as if the IRS is calling.
?Send bogus IRS emails to support their scam.
?Call a second time claiming to be the police or DMV, and caller ID again supports their claim.

The truth is the IRS usually first contacts people by mail ? not by phone ? about unpaid taxes. And the IRS won?t ask for payment using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The agency also won?t ask for a credit card number over the phone.

If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS asking for a payment, here?s what to do:
?If you owe federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
?If you don?t owe taxes, call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
?You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Be alert for phone and email scams that use the IRS name. The IRS will never request personal or financial information by email, texting or any social media. You should forward scam emails to phishing@irs.gov. Don?t open any attachments or click on any links in those emails.

I got the same thing and I looked up the irs website. I called the irs and they have nothing on me. I would call the irs first and not bother with this person. don't give out any personal information! good luck.

Started getting calls from (866) 978-8046, a guy with a heavy accent saying there is judgement against me and I may be arrested. Not very professional.
