I am on the "do not call" list...and still get sales calls. Now I get this one from Jamaica?? I didn't answer it. It has one of the area codes that are currently scamming people.
I am being harrased by "Credit Card Services". When I finally acted like I wanted their services, I got through to some people who gave me some tiny bits of info about them. Then I asked them to take me off their list, the lady told me I was being charged $20 a minute for this call. I got a "supervisor" who told me he was in Jamaica (no incoming lines for me to follow up) and he was taking me off their call list and that I was to call the 323-213-4134 number to verify it. But, he said, wait a couple minutes so he could call it in BUT I had to call within 5 minutes! I told him that if the calls form Credit Card Services did not stop, I was going to start legal proceedings. He said "we both know you can't do that and if that is the way you are going to be, go F--- yourself." I called this number within the 5 minutes and it was busy.
It was about lower my credit card rate. They said they work for "the banks" like Chase, and work for Visa, Mastercard, and Amex and were sent my info for them to call me about lowering my rate so they will not lose me as a customer. They sounded really legit, but did want my credit card number and wanted to know how much debt I have. Then it started sounding shaky. When I asked why they do not already have that info, they hung up on me. I didn't give them anything, but am worried that others might...they sound so legit....that's very worrisome.

There is no exchange (city code) of "000" anytime this appears on a caller ID it is telecommunications FRAUD, as no such code can be possible or exist and the phone system work. This is a spoof sent to hide the identity of the criminals at work. Most of these are generated by routing through out of country servers that also spoof their IP address to further protect the scammers. Unfortunately the telephone companies all have the ability to filter out these fraudulent IDs, but are unwilling to do what is their responsibility to protect their own service from unpaid usage.
I got a call from this number and in talking to two of my sisters I discovered they got calls from Jamaica too. We all live in different cities/towns!
I don't even bother answering the phone anymore.
Same thing, recorded message, pressed 9. Was asked if I was calling to lower credit card rate(funny, I don't remember calling them, I thought they called me...). Said "No, I want to" and she hung up. Stopped by the hardware store and picked up a police whistle. Next time I am going to say "Yes, oops, can you hang on for a second?" Then give them a blast from the whistle. Give it a try, even if it doesn't work it will make you feel better... ;-)
I had experience similar to Sarah's. 7/24/09 1:31PM, am on DNC list, got call with tape recorded message about lowering my credit card interest rates. Tape said that it was "urgent" that I contact now. I pressed 9, the option for an operator. Explained that I was on DNC list and wanted my name removed from their call list. The woman said she wasn't in charge of tremoving names but she would transfer me to person who was. She hung up.
I got the call and didn't answer it. In addition, I'm getting a call from this place and then from one in Florida with the similar 000 city code, so I've turned off my answering machine so that it appears there is no one at this number.
Do Not Call List seems to be nothing but a major scam made to make us feel better, but the government seems unable to really stop these obnoxious calls.

Seems they've moved from NH to VT. Same thing as others have reported. I, too, am on a Do Not Call list.
Same thing, about 3 minutes ago...also in NH. Recorded message from "Card Services". I said I am on a DNC - filed a complaint. Seems like NH is a target state.
Same story, about 5 minutes ago...also in NH. Recorded message from "card services", I hit 9 to speak to an operator. She said the company name was "Account Services or Member Services, it could be either" I mentioned the DNC list, and she hung up. I filed a DNC complaint.

'This is Credit Card Services... your final notice to lower your credit card interest rate. ... press 9 to speak to a live operator.' that's the only option given. I pressed it and when the the operator he asked, "Did you press 9 to lower your interest rate?" and i said, "No, I pressed 9 to tell you to remove me from your call list. I don't need..." (He hung up on me at that point.) TIRED OF THIS! CAN'T THE FCC TRACK DOWN THESE PEOPLE AND SEND THEM TO ...

Annoyng Calls; doesn't leave a message!
On do not call list and didn't answer this - they didn't leave message
I concur with all of the comments. This is a generated call from Jamaica about lowering your credit card rates. The call is automated. I am also on the Do Not Call List. I beleive this is a scam to give your credit card information to these people and then you will be sorry.
I don't know anyone in Jamaica. I didn't answer it. I'm also on the do-not-call list.
didnt leave any message
automated message about lowering my credit card interest rate (it is NOT our credit card company). press 9 to speak to a live operator. that's the only option given. i pressed it and when i got the operator he asked, "are you calling to lower your interest rate?" and i said, "no, i'm calling to tell you to take my number off your list" and he hung up on me! that doesn't seem legit to me.
