I just got a call from a Tony Washington.  He said I won $2.5 million and a 2014 Mercedes Benz w/ leather int. and fully loaded including free auto insurance and gasoline for 1 year provided by Geico insurance.  I told him I would borrow the $485 and put on a Green Dot MoneyPak scratch off card as instructed.  When I asked why I needed to pay for something that I WON, Tony got defensive and said he was a Christian and family man  and could be trusted.  This was obviously a scam from the get-go because the number was RESTRICTED and he would not provide a number for me to call him back.  He is supposed to call me at 3pm to get the card number so he can send people to my home to deliver the cashier's check and new car.  I am going to provide a false Green Dot card number and insist that they deliver the prize to my doorstep in the next 30 minutes and that I will just give them the card personally when they hand me my prize money and keys to my "brand new Mercedes Benz," which has no particular model or series number on the back of the car from the factory like every other Mercedes Benz has.  Probably because he didn't know of any particular model off the top of his head when I started asking questions.  Thanks for all the posts about this scam because they do sound believable and I'm sure a lot of people have fallen victim.  He had an answer for just about every question I had.  Oh, he also said he was calling from Las Vegas, NV but couldn't pronounce the word Vegas.  He even offered to put me on a private jet to fly me to Vegas to get he prize if I couldn't give him a card number today for the $485.

Ugh! Both my family and my grandmother are receiving calls from these idiots claiming we won $5K a week for life. Before recently, we could hang up on them. But no, now they're somehow evading our hang-ups! They called my family today, with their same BS and so I pressed the 'end call' button and put the phone back on its stand. When I heard "You can't hang up on me! I'm still here!" I jumped. I tried hanging up again. I heard some laughing and "You can't hang up on me!" I unplugged the phone for a second and that got rid of them. Now, even if I don't answer, I hear "Why didn't you answer?" emitting from the phone. This is ridiculous bullcrap.

April,

That sure sounds like a scam to me! Putting money on one of those pre-paid cards to pay for an award is called an "advance fee" scam, and it's illegal.

As you said that "...its not about that number [this 876-278-4101 thread] I just had a 202-684-6652 call my phone...," why don't you repeat your post at:
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-202-684-6652
so that other potential victims of THAT scammer can find your information?

I was contacted by a man named Peter Brown with a Jamaican accent telling me that I had won an 11.5 million$ raffle and all I needed to do was to go to Walmart or Target and purchase a $200:00 card in order to claim my win. Hi number was a Jamaican number (876-999-0505) although he told me that he was calling from Las Vegas. He was quite persuasive and insisted that I go to the store immediately to purchase the card.
Too bad Peter Brown  my Jamaican scammer, I've got your number and will be calling the police/FBI.

I am sad they only offered me $9,876.00 us dollars.  Yeah but same deal...heavy accent said they worked for government and that I was chosen to receive this as grant money.  I was informed to purchase the green dot card from walgreens or walmart and to call them back with the 14 digit # on back, even after he had already told me they would never ask for the card #, "Then how you going to transfer money to that account"  I asked.  He gave me name of Russell Williams.  I asked for a phone # to call to check to see if it was ligit. and he gave me 202# which then I spoke to a guy named Kevin Williams.  My feeling is some people might be naïve enough to put the $200 to $400 on this card and they drain it by using that back#.  So if they get several thousand people to conform, that's a lot of cash in their pockets.  My guess is they change their numbers and call centers quite frequently.  Good question is if we won money, why do we need to pay to receive it????

Number called from was 876-346-1058, location Jamaica. The person identified himself as Patrick Wilkins and had a very heavy Jamaican accent. He said he was calling from Jamaica, New York (yeah right) but I said the number showing on my phone was from outside the country (specifically Jamaica) and why was that? He told me to call another number "events headquarters" to prove that I was a winner. Just to see, I called and got an automated message confirming that I was. I then got a call back from "Patrick" who explained to me that I was a Mega Million winner and had won a million dollars because "I paid my bills on time".  I replied that I hadn't entered any sweepstakes and he said that my number had been chosen randomly.  I asked where the money originated, he said Las Vegas, Nevada via the BBB. (Really??) He then went on to explain what I had to do...go to Walmart and purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card and load it with $150 and that I must purchase the card with 14 digits code. The card itself would cost $4.99 but he reassured me that this money would be reimbursed to me once I got to a bank and the card loaded with (presumably) the million dollars. I figured this was a scam but I wanted to know how they were going to get my money when I pointed out to him all my objections, such as; real sweepstakes will never ask you to pay for anything up front, why do I have to buy a Green Dot card when they can just present me with a check? He assured me that I would not have to give anyone any of the numbers off the card, but that 4 representatives would show up; an attorney, a bank manager and 2 reps and escort me to the bank (which scared the heck out of me) and once the account was established I would get reimbursed for the $150 and $4.99. He also told me not to mention what I was doing to the Walmart staff. And then said that they were experiencing phone problems so could I call them back on a cell phone once the card was purchased. He kept reassuring me that I would not have to pay for anything - being that I would be reimbursed - so I don't know how the scam is supposed to work. If they don't really have the money, and I go to a bank of my choosing to open the account, how then do they rip me off? Then he says things like "don't mention that you've won this money to anyone because you can't count your chickens before they hatch" which pretty much confirmed to me that this was all BS. But now he won't stop calling, even though I refuse to answer. These guys are terrible terrible con artists and he has the gall to swear to God it is for real!  Not just that but he's a pretty smooth operator...he has an answer for EVERYTHING. They must be trained to get around ANY objections. Why on earth would these people spend so much time and energy chasing down one person who obviously asks way too many questions? Like I said, I don't know how this particular con is supposed to work (given that I wasn't asked to send money or pay taxes etc) but I'm pretty sure it's a scam. Made even scarier by the fact they say they will come meet me at any place of my choosing, residence or work place. Of course I did not give out that information nor any other info. Be careful folks, these guys are predators.
