This guy is still at it. He got my father's information from somewhere and repeatedly tried to get him to send money. After my dad passed away, I told him my dad was dead and to stop calling. He kept calling and telling me my father had won money and I was eligible to receive it. I told him that we were not paying any money to get a prize and he insisted he did not want want any money to collect the prize. He just wanted a card. I said what kind of card. He was hard to understand but eventually I realized he wanted me to go by a card with money on it and call and give him the number of the card. I told him no but he keeps calling including in the middle of the night. My step-mother has cancer and needs her rest. I have told him over and over we were not going to bite and that there was a cancer patient here and to stop calling but he persists. I finally figured out today how to block the calls from the number he is currently using (876-524-6627) on our Charter phone system. Of course, it was like figuring out Greek to figure out how! Sadly, I fear he will change the number and start calling again.

Received a call from "out of area" on 4/8 from a caller who said I won 2nd place prize from a sweepstakes of $2.5 Million.and all I needed to do was purchase a $350 CVS card.  Someone would bring the check to me today.  I asked him his name and number and he said it was Jimmy Wilson at (876) 591-7620.  Sensing a scam, I hung up.  The next morning we received another call from the same man.  The caller ID showed the name to be Jim Kingston at (876) 891-5531.  My wife answered the phone and asked him not to call back.  He said that he would call every 5 minutes.  He didn't.   Recommend never answer any (876) area code calls or "out of area" calls.

Jim Kingston called from 876-892-6667 and asked me if I knew what Publishers Clearinghouse was.  I answered yes.  He said did you enter.  I said No. He said I am calling to tell you that you were picked out of 4,000 names.  I said "What is my name?"  He said you don't believe me?  I said, correct.   He hung up on me.

Thank you for all that information. I have found information about the scam on US Embassy website, FTC, on this website, and others, but I had not seen the PCH warnings for which you provided a link. I think that will be particularly helpful to show my parents. I read them various reports from this website when they were in the midst of the scam earlier this week. We reported to the police, I've sent a complaint to FTC, and I'm working on reports to the other agencies. Thanks again.

Furious, it may help to have the authorities speak to them. And of course, you can print out this whole thread and give it to them to read! But here's some info for you and them also as it is a huge scam!  Also its against the law for folks to have to pay fee's of any kind for a "prize" .. Or if you have a computer they can see, let them them read this and the Government Articles as well.

PCH:
It is a scam:

Its ILLEGAL to ask for money to receive it.

I later found out my dad withdrew money and purchased Green Dot Moneypack cards and loaded them with his money. Then the scammer demanded the number from the back of each card. My parents gave him the number from one of the cards! When I found out about this I checked the cards online. The one was wiped clean, but the other one was ok because parents didn't give the scammer the number off that card--tho he persistently tried to get it. This is insane!!! They called my parents over 30 times yesterday and started in again this morning.

Call from "KINGSTON JM" 876-999-9284, 876-453-4217, 876-599-6947, unavailable, and anonymous. 25 calls today to my parents!!!! My dad has been talking to this joker, and had I not stopped by, god only knows what info my dad would have given him! He's on the phone with him now and won't hang up! This guy has told them they've won $2.5M and a Mercedes from Publishers Clearinghouse. Now I just found out my dad tried to wire a money order to these people for taxes on the 2.5M. He lost $40 in wire fees, but western union sent the money back because of some sort of error. The people where he did the wire tried to tell my dad it was a scam, but he wouldn't listen. I still haven't convinced him it's robbery!!! Omg!!!

Mr Kingston has been in my families life as well.  We started realizing how serious it was when we were home for my mothers funeral.  When he called repeatedly to talk to my dad and we wouldn't let him, he became upset.  We told him to stop calling as we were burying our mother...he said, can't you do both?  He proceeded to have an arguing contest with my niece that ended in F*!@ you.  Don't worry...she said it back!

That was 7 months ago.  He promised 2 cars and millions of dollars.  My dad has totally fallen into this trap.  We have had the County Sheriff, FBI, and many people talk to him but he believes this guy is his 'friend'.  He knows everything about us and where dad is at all times.  At one point, we thought we had him convinced so dad told him the FBI was going to be looking into this.  GUESS WHAT, the guy called back as the FBI.  Told him to change his phone number and only speak to him.  He would help him get his money back but of course, he would need to send more money to do that.

It is absolutely horrible that there is nothing we can do to stop this from happening.  He is now broke and we had to step in and take over his financials because the guy doesn't quit.  Even after he didn't have any money available, the guy instructed him to go to friends, banks...he has tried it all.  Luckily we live in a small community and everyone has your back.

It is horrible, embarrassing and sad to think there is someone so cold and heartless in this world that would take advantage of the elderly at any time let alone when they are still mourning the death of a spouse.  This is not our dad's character.  I truly believe this guy has brainwashed him.  In one 24 hour period, he had called my dad 60 times.

I have had calls from Jim Kingston or his Jamican Subordinate, offering all kinds of prizes. I just read the one he used on me the 1st time I discussed anything w/him. Go to Walmart & purchase a $100 gift card & I am in the top 3 to receive ....I can't remember if it was in the hundreds of thousands or millions, + a Mercedes. I said it was a scam & wanted nothing to do w/him or it. I had two more very brief conversations, saying he was scamming & he was to stop calling. He has called on average 2-3 times per WEEK for at least 2 months!!! He claims he lives in Las Vegas. He is not only a con artist, but out of his mind. I have never had this level of harrassment & shear gall from anyone. I no longer answer & he won't leave a message.

Additionally, at least 10 credit companies have stated that someone has been checking my financial rating. And he (or someone else) has discovered something very private about me that I wouldn't want other people to know!!!

I'm elderly & get lots of calls, most legit, but definitely targeting the elderly. No matter what any internet site (or anyone else) says about ensuring my privacy, there's no way that's happening. And we think the days of prohibition or gangsters like Al Capone were rough! That could at least be fought & was not invasive to complete strangers.

As re: the below "call type" is very difficult to read & scam is not one of the choices. I don't even know what "SMS" is.

This "Jim Kingston" was on the phone with my pops for a hour and a half. After my father refused to give him any money because it was told to be a "gift", Mr. Kingston became a whirlpool of curses and insults from wasted time I would assume. He called my father gay. He said "F*** you." He is a very odd and dangerous delinquent.

I asked him the name of the company, he mumbled something to me and then when I asked him to spell it, because I couldn't understand him, he "switched" me to the "boss" who begun yelling at me excessively and telling me I disrespected him. It was very funny - except I am tired because he woke me up early.

Jim Kingston (per caller ID with phone number 876-291-3213) just called this morning and said he is Dave Sayer (but spelled it Sayier) from Publishers Clearance (not Clearing) House and that I have won $4.7 million (then he said $4.6 million later) and a convertible Jaguar.  He said Ed McMahon is sitting next to him.  I heard lots of hammering in the background....sounds like a construction site.  He said there will be a certified check for $4.6 million and that I can take it to any bank and cash it (yeah right!).  He said he already contacted the IRS and always works with the IRS....everyone who wins has to work with the IRS on large wins like this.  He also said I can come pick up my check at PCH headquarters in New York City.  The address he gave was 45 Christopher Street, NYC, NY 10054 (which is an 18 story apartment building).

I got a call from  a man  saying his name was Dave Sayer.  Said he wanted me to call him back at 1-876-329-1164.  Had my first & last name. said I had won  $ 950,000  & a Mercedes Benz,  He had a thick accent & was difficult to understand.  I let the answering machine get it.  The caller I.D.showed he was calling from  876-334-1964 & the name on the caller I.D.was Jim Kingston I guess no call lists does  not apply to scam artists. You can report activity like this to the Fed Trade Comm. I don`t think it did any good, they did not seem very interested, and gave me a case file number.  But who knows, at least I feel like I did what I could,  but as you can see I`m still getting scam calls. I think I`ll just let them wear the answwereing machine out.
