Event Reminder
Just got a call on my lunch break. Man with heavy foreign accent claiming to be from Publishers Clearinghouse. Claimed his name was Johnny Smith or something. Could barely pronounce Publishers Clearinghouse. Told me I had won a Mercedes Benz convertible. Even went as far to ask me what color I would prefer it in. Asked me if I wanted a private or public delivery.
I will admit from the time he failed to pronounce the name of his company correctly I knew he was not who he claimed to be. I led him on for a good half hour pretending to have questions about the car and other aspects of the prize. After a while he began to get aggravated. It was clear by the tone of his voice this was happening so I just came out and asked him. He then proceeded to ask me if I wanted the prize or not in a very agitated tone. He remarked that I needed to be more honest with my answers if I wanted my car. I then told him I was being just as honest to him as he was to me. I also told him that I knew his name was not Johnny Smith. That was the last statement I got out before he started hurling insults and obscenities my way. He actually called me a "jerk". He hung up on me. I tried to call back with the number he had called from, but it did not go through. It said my account did not have privileges to call that number. Googled the number and ended up here. I think he was trying to reach an elderly person because when I told him I did not have a bank, he asked me how I received my social security.

Debt Collector
Call from this number late last night to say I'd won 1.2 million but had to call back to a number he provided -- which was the same number he called on according to caller display. He called back the next morning to ask why I hadn't called in as requested, and that the package was waiting to be delivered. When I said I was busy he became very aggressive and agitated. He said he'd pass me on to his "CEO" at which point I decided to stop playing along and hung up.

Very clearly a scam. UPS won't be calling to let someone know they had won something as that would be the responsibility of the company giving out the prize. And, of course, I haven't entered any contest or prize draw worth that amount.
