Hey I just got that same call just now. I was in bed and he woke me up. Kept saying I won 2.5 million dollars and gave his names as James Kennedy. Now the reason this was extremely confusing was because I had just woke up, he had a really heavy accent, and I have a brother named James Kennedy. The guy kept asking me how I felt. I asked if this was a joke and he sounded mad. He didn't like that I was taking too long with my responses and probably knew I was getting suspicious. He said he was coming to my house in Gary, Indiana to present it but I told him I didn't live in Indiana. When I gave up and got out of bed to look up his number he said to call him back to get the rest of the details.

Mr Kennedy call me to tell me I  won the publishers clearing house (which I did not enter),  a new car &2.5 million dollars. he encouraged me to call him back if I wanted to at (876) 356-7050. he said he was calling me from a town nearby, but clearly it was an international call with a poor connection. he was borderline rude but I got off the phone before it got too bad.

TN, this particular colony of foul smelling, woolly headed little Jamaican beasts is one of the oldest (i.e. longest running) still in operation.  What you might be surprised to learn is that over 30,000 calls are placed DAILY from Jamaica to the United States for the purpose of trying to swindle/extort money. In most cases, these foul smelling creatures have only your phone number and will try to extract additional information from you using the ruse of trying to verify your correct name/address so they can deliver the prize package.

I was first contacted by these filthy, little animals, when I received a call from something calling itself "John Baker" (last night it was "David Carter".) In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 2.5 million dollars from "Mega Millions" in Las Vegas. It instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS, load it with $499.25 to pay for my "registration fees." A few days after this call, I was shocked to see this particular scam featured on ABC World News. During that segment, they played the audio of a conversation between an elderly woman - who had already sent them $85,000 - and one of these black stained rodents.

When these roaches call again - which they will - please record the call and share that information here in this forum. Please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name. Thanks.

Recieved a call from a guy that i spoke very bad English saying that i won $2.5 million and a new car from the South Dakota Publishers Clearing House. i told him i didn't believe him and that i never entered. he said that it was a randome drawing in the state. he went on to say that i should count my blessings because i am so lucky to have won... he said that i had to call him back so that he could record our conversation and i could let him know how i wanted my winnings sent to me. when i asked him why he didn't call me from this 'special phone number' so that he could have recorded the conversation from the start, he hung up on me.

I got a call from this same guy. I won $5,000,000 and a new car.  He claimed to be from PCH.  He was so pissed off with me that he hung up on me twice.  I'm like wow......   he hated the fact that i was apprehensive.  He asked how I felt about winning and I said "show me the money".  Then he asked if I was crazy.  lol   Then he wanted me to verify my address and I asked him what he had for my address and he hung up again.  He totally lost his cool before hangning up though.  And yes, he said he would just go on to the next one.

I received the same call a guy saying he was John something from PCH & I won 2.5 million &  a escalade, all I had to do was send him 375 dollars. Really? I had nothing else to do so I decided to entertain this guy he said I won so I asked him my name he couldn't tell me, he said he had my address on file but he couldn't tell me what it was, or my age. He then got irritated with me because every time he asked me a question I would ask him one, told me I was being difficult, I told him no it's called not being stupid. He then snapped at me saying when I was ready to do business I could text him back, I then laughed saying wow text you back I can't call you, he hung up. Well made him feel some type of way....

Prank Call
They told me the same thing and I didn't believe it.  They told me to call back the number on my caller ID and they would explain what I needed to do.  I said okay, hung up and googled the phone number and found these posts.  When I didn't call back, he phoned again and said "Sweetie, why you not return my call?"  And I said "because I know this is a scam!" and he hung up immediately.

DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.
http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-809AreaCode

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Also:
It is a scam:
http://info.pch.com/consumer-information/fraud-protection

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.

Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.

"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees,  and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T.  The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!

Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award.  PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award.  Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"

got the call from "Publisher's Clearing House"  .  Call quality was terrible; lots of static.  Bad connection, but caller asked if I could hear him, I answered "yes", then he identified that he was PCH and said I was the winner.  I hung up.  He called right back 6 times!!, which I did not answer and no message was left in my voice mail.  SCAM!!!!!

I just got one of these calls. First, it came up on my caller ID as "private number". He said he was from PCH and his name was Albert Pye and that I had won the second place prize in my state's cell phone number raffle. Problem is, he had actually called my home phone. Then he said I would have to go to Walgreen's and buy a green dot shipping card for like $400.00. I told him that I was dubious about all of this so he gave me the number for the "lawyer who would be handling the process" and said she would be traveling to my house today along with UPS to deliver the check.  The number was 876-356-9578.  I immediately googled the number and saw the multiple results for "356 scam".  He called back a few minutes later from 876-427-1284. He asked if I called the lawyer. I told him I googled the number and knew it was a hoax. He immediately hung up.

Dustin, I understand you are justifiably angry but for us to effectively combat these foul smelling rodents we need information - reliable, detailed information.   You don't explain how he scammed you out of $800 (which, sounds like he got you more than once - not being critical, just an observation.) While I  am confident the poster "daFox" has good intentions, sadly you need to understand that the authorities can not/will not do anything to combat these vile creatures. It is up to us - just as "crowd sourcing" helped to locate the Boston bombers - to exterminate this vermin. When these black stained rodents call again - and they will - please:

1) ANSWER THE PHONE. Try to prolong the call. Ask it to repeat information: its name, its location, etc.
2) Frustrate the caller. If it appears to be in a hurry, talk even more slowly. If it talks slowly, speak rapidly. A frustrated chigger makes mistakes.
3) Determine exactly what information it has about you. Usually it is just your phone number and perhaps your first name. Unfortunately, in one variant of this scheme, this vile creature DOES have most of your personal information.
4) Try to extract as much information from it as possible. There are MANY variants of this scam currently active (e.g. "Green Dot Card," Moneygram) and, most importantly
5) Record the call and share that information here in this forum. When you post, please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name.

Thanks

My mom received a phone call from a guy with a jamaican accent claiming he was from PCH and that they were sitting outside my mom's house with a check for $800,000 and a new mercedes. Since my mom could not understand him, she hung up and called me. She gave me this phone number (876-296-6082)

So I called the number back and the guy claimed that he would "Stay on the line with me until I arrived at the local walmart to claim the prize for my mom" I told him that the nearest walmart was about a good 20 minutes from my home and asked if there was a number I could call him back at." He continued to insist that he remained on the line until I got in my car and drove to the local walmart. I told him that I would call him back.

He then said that I would need 2 forms of ID and a registration prize number. He asked me if I knew what that number was, I said no, and then he said that was why he had to stay on the phone.

I hung up on him, when I hung up on him, my phone gave me a little message claiming my recent phone call was 4 minutes and 36 seconds long and cost me $4.25!!!!

This would explain why he wanted to "stay on the line" until I got to the local walmart. LOL

I guess it sucks that it cost me $4.25, but it was a humorous conversation, and I saved my mother from a scam, so money lost, lesson learned, no big deal, I got a few laughs out of it lol

I received a call today from 876-356-7050. A man with an island accent said that he was with Publisher's Clearing House and that he was calling to inform me that I had won the five million dollar prize. That (among other things) immediately sent up a red flag, because it had been years since the last time I'd entered a PCH sweepstakes. I calmly said, "Oh...really...?" He replied, "Yes...how do you feel about having won the five million dollar prize?" I asked him, "Why are you calling me from Jamaica?" (I had seen Kingsport, JM on my caller ID when answering the phone.) He said that he was calling from the ____ branch. (I couldn't understand the name of the place he was claiming to be calling from.) I just replied, "Hmmmm...". He then said, "Well, how do you feel about having won five million dollars?" I replied, "I'll believe it when I see it." He sounded a bit irritated as he replied, "Well, call me back when you're ready to talk," and hung up. I promptly googled the phone number and found this site. I have no idea how he got my cell phone number.

Political Call
This morning I got a call from 876-356-7050 and an immediate hangup.  I put the number into google search and found this page.  He called back within five minutes.  He had a slight accent with which I am unfamiliar. I greeted him cordially and asked him what was happening.  He told me he was with Publisher's Clearing House, and I asked if he was kidding and if I had won.  He asked if I thought it was funny, then told me to get off of the phone.  I told him to tell me where he wanted Western Union to direct the $300 he was getting ready to ask for, and he seemed to be at a loss for words.  As inept as he was I wonder if anyone has ever sent him any money.
