Area code 876 is the local telephone area code of Jamaica. The 876 area code was created during a split from the original 809 area code. This was done on or around[when?] the date May 1997.

Area code 876 serves the country?s three mobile operators ? Cable and Wireless (marketed as LIME ? Landline, Internet, Mobile and Entertainment), Digicel, and Oceanic Digital (operating as MiPhone and now known as Claro since late 2008). Also served by area code 876 are the country's two landline providers - Cable & Wireless and Columbus Communications (marketed as Flow Jamaica).

In recent years[when?] the 876 area code has become notorious with lottery and sweepstake fraud originating in Jamaica, US residents have been scammed by these calls announcing lottery winnings or UPS pickup with instructions to call back a number with an 876 area code.

An unidentified number from Jamacia, as it was displayed on my caller ID. Called and with an automated sounding voice. Advising me that I had just won 485,000 and a 2013 "White" Mercedes. It was publishers Clearing House Calling. Was I familure with PCH?

It gave a me an activation code 237xxxx #. I was Advised to call (866) 996-5997, which asked me for my activation code number. But it didn't call it an activation code. It said to enter the six digit numer. Then I was to call (876) 360-0817 and verify my claim . The prise would then be authorize for delivery to my home. did I know a city named, (.........) near me.

I don't give out my cell phone number which is what they called in on.
He said that I had to call right away and call him back at (876) 416-6789. (I was at a job site and didn't call right back). Within 5 minutes I received another call explaining It was PCH again and I had just won a "Black" Mercedes Benz. When I questioned David, the caller. That he had just called me and I had not verified my previous claim. The automated sounding voice offered several excuses about verifying that everything was in place. And David was awaiting my call back to him to confirm all this stuff written here.

SO ALL THIS APPEARES TO BE A SCAM.

What was interesting, I was just dealing with an insurance company that had an aget named Jamica. And on a previous call to the insurance company. I misdialed and got an CONGRATULATIONS! You just won......blah, blah, blah announcement. So I was sucked in for the billing to my cell phone for the amount of time it took him to explain all this stuff, the wait time to get my pen and paper, tick, tick, tick....the billing is climbing....!

Whatever you do, do NOT call that or any other 876 number.  876 is the area code for the island of Jamaica and you will be charged International Long Distance Rates for any calls made to that area code.  That could be very expensive.  PHC absolutely does not call prize winners.  You can be certain that all calls you receive from 876 area code numbers are a scam unless you actually have contacts in Jamaica.

A restricted Number called and advised me that he had been advised to call me and that I had won 485,000 and a 2013 "CHERRY" Red Mercedes. IT was publishers Clearing House Calling.
It gave a Packet # 15208USA.
I was Advised to call 876-360-0817 Ext. #5 and ask to speak to the President of the Claims Department John Robinson. HE would then Authorize the delivery of the above prizes.
He kept saying. This is no joke and not a scam.
I don't give out my cell phone number which is what they called.in on.
He said that I had to call right away (I called my husband to see if he had given out my number).
They guy called back within 5 minutes when I had not called to ask why I had not called.
My cell phone died. After charging it, I did not find any messages from him.
