Omg same happened to me today ! He told me that the number was a roaming number and I just kept on asking question until he got really mad and hung up

N M, thank you for a GREAT post! If more potential victims displayed this attitude this scam would have died off ages ago.

As I am sure you know, there is never a reason to call back an "876" number these foul smelling chiggers provide. NEVER!  Sadly you will discover that the authorities can not/will not do anything to combat these vile creatures. It is up to us - just as "crowd sourcing" helped to locate the Boston bombers - to exterminate this vermin. When these black stained rodents call again - and they will - please:

1) Answer the phone and try to prolong the call. Ask it to repeat information: its name, its location, etc. The more time it spends talking to you, the less time it has to call other potential victims.

2) Frustrate the caller. If it appears to be in a hurry, talk even more slowly. If it talks slowly, speak rapidly. A frustrated chigger makes mistakes.

3) Determine exactly what information it has about you. Usually it is just your phone number and perhaps your first name. In some cases,  these vile creatures DO have most of your personal information. What should you do in that case? Poison their database. "Oh, that is my old address. Here, let me give you my current one." At which point you can provide the address of a vacant lot or maybe the address of your local police station. Use your imagination.

4) Try to extract as much information from it as possible. There are many variants of this scam currently active. If they are using the "Green Dot Card" version you MUST switch them to a different one (suggest sending them a check but compromise on using a "Moneygram.")

5) Record the call and share that information here in this forum. When you post, please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name.

Got the call saying I won $950,000 and a 2014 Mercedes....WOO HOOO, right? WRONG! So, I entertained this A-hole for about 30 minutes by playing into what he was telling me. Of course, he couldn't tell me the NAME of the person that won....just that there had been a sweepstakes entry at a Walmart....we don't shop at Walmart! So then he proceeds to tell me that I need to obtain a government card to pay the taxes with....UUUUUMMMMMM Social Security Number is what is required in the U.S., but this card was only going to cost me $125 and could NOT come out of the $950,000 I was being delivered today.... WHAT?! So I told the guy this was a total scam and to never call my #'s again, hung up and guess what?!  they haven't called back!This is so sad to me because there are so many mentally challenged and elderly people that would TOTALLY fall for this! They need to be stopped!!!!

So I got a call on my cell phone saying I had won a raffle. To be honest the guy's accent was so thick I had a hard time understanding anything he said. After having him speak clearer and repeat several things, he said I had won a prize and "my phone number went into a drawing, I was 2nd place. I won $950,000 US dollars" and a car from American Powerball Sweeptakes like Publisher's Clearing House. I don't remember what kind of car, but I'm guessing it was a nice one. He said "You should be jumping up and down for joy right now." I kept saying I was confused and he said I shouldn't be. He said he was a Christian man and did not want to decieve me, that this was a real prize. And you know what? I went with it. I gave him my name and address which hopefully won't come back to bite me on the a**. So I listened to him talk and explain things for about an hour before we finally hung up (which might end up costing me a bit of money according to the above statements lol oh well). When I told him I couldn't afford a 400 dollar money order to some guy in New Mexico, he said I could send in $100, and that he would pay for the rest of it. Nice guy right? Anyway, I decided to do some research on the internet before strolling to nearest Western Union, and sure enough here's my proof that its not the best well hidden scam out there. I may have given him the benefit of the doubt while on the phone, but I'm not a complete idiot. Google is my generation's best friend.

He was a Jamaican man who called and told me I won 950,000.00 and a mercedez Benz. I told him I didn't believe him. He kept trying to convince me that I won. I asked him what the catch was he said no catch just had to pay 399.00 for shipping and handling. He got mad when I asked him how ups was going to deliver me a car and money. I hung up on him. Then I called him back and he answered his phone without a company name or anything. Complete scam and you know what. I blocked his number from any future calls.

Received a call on my cell phone stating that he was from UPS delivering a certified package asking if I will be home at 4:00pm.  When I inquired more about who the package was from, he said Publisher's Clearing House and I have won prize.  When I mentioned that this sounds unusual, he simply hung up.  I called the number and he answered it.  I acted like I thought we simply was disconnected, he continued to tell me that I won a 2011 car and they are delivering it from Albuquerque, NM and I would need to pay to have it delivered.  I of course said I would pay COD like I always do for UPS (which was not true, but it flushed him out)  He simply hung up again.

just recieved a call from Kevin Peterson saying i won 1.5 million dollars, 2011 BMW, and all i hand to due was western union 785.00 buy 1130am tomorrow, in this call heard kids and dogs barking. just doesnt seem real. had all my info called me on my cell with address.

Received a call on my cell, from a heavy accent. Mentioned that he was from UPS. He mentioned "because I paid my bills on time my phone number went into a drawing, I was 2nd place. I won $950,000 US dollars and a Mercedes Benz."
I told him, "I didn't believe him. This is a Haux" He said, "You should be jumping up and down for joy right now," I said, "Well I'm not". He started to get upset with me and then hung on me.
My cell number is not tied to any of my bills. I tried to call back and it went straight to a voice mail.
I hate it when others take advantage the honest individual trying to take care of their family. Please don't believe anyone that wants more information from you. DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING, YOU HAVE WORKED TO HARD TO HAVE IDIOTS TAKE IT BY A SCAM.

This call cost the phone company $9.95 additional $10. Calls are made from Jamaica, obliviously SPAM!!

I received a call from this number from Peter Washington from UPS saing Won a free turkey when I called him back to say why he doesnt know who he is calling he hung up. Definately a foriegn accent like jaminican or Nigeria.

I got a call from this number who said his name was Michael Anderson with UPS and had a registered package and would deliver it to my house.  I told him I would call him back, I know it is bogus because I have never won anything that is for free in my entire life.
He sounded Jamaican to me.

Got a call on my cell. Said he was in my hometown and his name was  michael anderson.
I could hear children playing in the background.
He said I won $750,000 and a new car and a certfied package via UPS.
Did not get fuether as I hung up.

I also got a call from this number. I ask who it was and I couldn't understand and the area code was one that I didn't know so I hung up. Right after that I googled the area code and it said it was from jamaca.

I also recieved a call from this number he did sound india.. and i won a package from publishers clearing house and won a 2012 escalade and 470. thousand dollars.. then i pretend it is not my phone and i hung up..  the wierd thing is he said he was calling from areas known to only local people like chinle so he does do his homework please beware i dont know what he is after but hanging up best thing

He said My phone number was raffled off and I was a winner and that a package would be sent to my house. This sounds bogus to me so I hung up. He said his name was Mr. Michael.

They said my name was raffled and I won 250,000 dollars and a car. He had a Jamaican accent. He said he knows what city I live in and he wanted my adress and that someone from UPS would be coming in the next hour to deliver my package

Called me and told me i won a $250,000 Mercedes Benz but in order to claim it, i had to get a money transfer from the bank for $490. they claimed they were from UPS and they had drawn my number. they wanted the check sent to Deborah Jackson in Texas
