DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Do report the calls, Jamaican and US officials are still actively tracking down and arresting the offenders:

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.
Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.
"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees, and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T! It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T. The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!
Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award. PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award. Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"
Also that address:
465 E. Rittenhouse Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144
A very very very run down, bad neighborhood, I doubt anyone there has anything to do with millions of dollars, other than wanting to steal it.

A guy from this number goes around trying to get the elderly to send him money orders or give him the numbers off of a MoneyPak reusable credit card. He uses the name Ben Green or John Green. He claims to be with Mega Millions Sweepstakes out of Neveda. He tried to get one lady to send a money order to Wayne Roper, 465 E. Rittenhouse Street, Philadelphian, PA 19144. Beware of these people! It is a scam!!!

Received call from gentleman (very hard to understand) informing me that I had won 1.5 million dollars
and a new Mercedes. Call came approximately 8:30 AM today. Caller said his name was Michael
Collan (he spelled his last name) and he said he was from "Publishing House". Wanted me to go
to Walmart and purchase a green card - I asked him what I needed this for and he said for identification
to which I said I have all of the information anyone would need to identify myself. He then stated he
would need $150 for "transfer fees" at which time I told him I had another call coming in.
I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SCAN???

Janet, thank you for sharing your experience here. How they obtained your phone number (or my number, for that matter,) is unclear. If these filthy rodents contact you again, try to find out what they truly know about you (usually, just your first name) while trying to extract as much information from them as possible. If possible, record the call.
You might be surprised to learn that over 30,000 calls are made DAILY from Jamaica to the United States for the purpose of trying swindle/extort money. While the voice on the phone might have sounded like the same guy, there are MANY variations of this scam currently active. Since they seem to target the elderly and spurred on by the powerful AARP lobby, this particular scam is currently the subject of a Federal investigation, using the code name JOLT.
I thought I had finally heard the last from these foul smelling, little animals, when I received a call from someone calling himself "John Felix" (apparently these clowns think every white person in the US has "John" for a first name.) In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 3.5 million dollars! This was, apparently, a different scam operation than the the one that had contacted me two weeks earlier. In that scheme, I was contacted by a "John Baker" who instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS to pay my registration fees because I had won 2.5 million from "Mega Millions." These calls are being placed via Magic Jack and the audio quality is very poor. In order to once again pay for "registration fees of 5%," I was instructed to obtain a Money Gram for $499.25 and that I would be sending it to "Lloyd David Cook, 5201 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA" As it turns out, this address belongs to a sort of homeless rehab facility
