DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Do report the calls, Jamaican and US officials are still actively tracking down and arresting the offenders:

Also:
It is a scam:

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.

Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.

"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees,  and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T.  The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!

Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award.  PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award.  Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"

Prank Call
They called me on Saturday, May 31, 2014 claiming to be from Publisher's Clearing House. They stated that I had won a $3.5 million prize and needed to confirm my address for a June 2, 2014 delivery by Publishers. Once I heard the shenanigans I quickly hung up and did not answer when the called back.  I am almost certain they would have asked for funds. If you see they number don't waist your time.

A man by the name of Mr. Alex White (he had a non-american accent) called my workplace and asked for me by name. He then left a VM for me. He stated on the VM that he had a delievery for me from UPS. I returned the call and he stated that I had won 8.5 million dollars or a Mercedes Benz. He wanted my email address and cell phone number. I refused and asked him if he ever had heard of the word "scam" before. I then said I was contacting the better business bureau. He got a bit snippy before I hung up on him. This occured on 11-5-2009. The number he called from was 1-876-471-3677.

I'm 82 and my husband is 84.  A man ask for my husband but I said I would talk for him.  Alex White said he was from Global International Lottery & Sweepstakes. Also said something about Publishers Clearing House.  We'd won a lot of money & a mercury car.  Said we needed to go to Western Union and get a bar code for $299.00.  We don't have Western Union here. I told him Publishers Clearing House never asks for money if you win.  He changed his tune a bit.  Said we could go to Wal Mart and get a bar code.  Since we've done a lot of volunteer work with the sheriff's office over the years we decided to go along with the "fraud".  We went to Wal Mart and they knew all about this kind of thing.  We did report this to the sheriff"s office but of course they didn't have much to work with.  When we got home Mr White called to see if we had done what he ask and if they could send someone to the house.  I told him he was an interesting person and that he was a lair and a fraud.  He was very offended, didn't know what I was talking about and what had I done.  After a bit more conversation he ask if I had given the the information to the sheriff.  By the way Mr Kingston who also is involved in this has another number.  It's 876 455-9896

Man called my  86 year old mother stating that she had won $35K - and she was to go to Western Union for a form to hand over $2500 to collect her prize. The man - with an accent - had her address and, obviously, her phone number. He stated that his name was Alex White (same as another posted complaint) and that he was a devout Christian man (even said a prayer!). He also asked if she would like him to notify the local television crew to cover the prize award ceremony. The really scary part is that he proceeded to tell my mother that someone would be coming to her house in person - and with the address, a simple mapquest query would provide the directions. My parents reported this to the local State Police post. The officer called the number and asked the man to swing by the State Police post on the way! Mr. White hemmed and hawed with the officer that he, personally, was not the one coming to award the prize. The caller id that came up is: KINGSTON   JM  876-442-0508, but the number he gave my mother was: 876-471-3677
