Received a call like this from 8768096892. I'm an older man and he will not stop calling me. Now he calls and has leisure conversations with me. My granddaughter got on the phone and he didn't call for a little while. He calls me about 5 or 6 times day...Every time from this same number. Wanted me to purchase green dot card and meet him and FBI agents at my bank. Not a chance!

DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.
http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-809AreaCode

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Do report the calls, Jamaican and US officials are still actively tracking down and arresting the offenders:

My 92-year-old father has just gotten nailed in this scam. Our family just found out yesterday. And sure enough, these guys got over $100,000 from him - within less than 1 week they got him to clean out his accounts. This man doesn't have anything left - not one nickel. We are in the process of going through everything to get a full handle on the devastation. I am just sick - as a family, we are on top of things with my Dad, and still they managed to get him. They promised him $11M in winnings, and he FELL for it immediately. And my Dad is fully functioning - no dementia, no health issues, sharp as a tack. But, they got him anyway. It is DISGUSTING that these scammers continue to get away with this, targeting those from a time when a contract was honorable, and in most cases, was handled with nothing more than a handshake. We went to the police, they were not much help. And they told us the FBI won't even get involved if the loss is less than $200,000. The main number that has been used to contact him is 876-280-1400, from a "Mr Henderson." Other numbers that have are showing on his caller ID are 876-361-3051, 876-895-7783, 876-596-8314, 876-528-0800, 876-441-0883, plus a whole bunch from restricted and unavailable numbers.

Well....they are persistent little buggers for sure.  Just got another call from Mr. David Brooks from US Mega millions cash awards and I've won some money. HA! They keep on calling, but thankfully, I've read the posts and know whats going on.  I appreciate whoever started this because it has helped some of us not get caught in the web. Now if they would actually listen to me and quit calling.  David even leave messages on my phone and once had the audacity to tell me I was wasting his time. HE CALLED ME! Rude doesn't even begin to describe them.

My husband has gotten calls from these guys.  Started last week.  He played phone tag at first then spoke wit someone yesterday.  These people called HIS parents' house and left a message.  When she relayed it to us it was to call a "Mr Washington with the state department". Naturally he tried calling.  When these people finally reached my husband, it was a "sweepstakes" win of $1M.   While he was on the phone I googled the Cash Awards and found this site. They were going to call him back in an hour but when they called we just didn't answer. They tried 4 more times.  They were persistent this morning and he finally answered and told them not to call back. So far so good.  I got curious and went through his call log and found AT LEAST 20 other calls from other area codes.

I researched those numbers and found some actually had info on the owners. There's owners were usually in the age range of 55-65.

I remember hearing about scams years ago where if you answer the call the caller can actually use your number to make calls, charging to your number.  I'm just wondering out loud if this could possibly be happening.  ACA calling from Jamaica using domestic numbers to pilfer $$$ from people.

Hmmm...

A$$hole$!

Arnold - there is a website that offers information on people. For a nominal fee, you can look people up by name or reverse number.  The information for sale not only lists name and address, but age, past residences AND people associated with you (ex parents' names, siblings, past spouses, etc.). For a scammer like this, it's $$ well spent especially when someone who, like you, believe what they are told and send in money to them.

What I'd like to see is the FBI standing by when the "courier" comes to pick up the green dot cards (as one poster stated).

My husband just got off the phone with a guy with a heavy accent.  He couldn't understand him.  He asked to be transferred to someone else.  The call was disconnected, but a "supervisor" did call back.  He told my husband that he would call back in 30 mins with details and my husband said he would have his attorney with him.   Mr Washington said that would be fine.

It's been over an hour now....

I had a call from this number, or a very similar number last week.
I looked at the phone number on call display - didn't bother picking up, and let it go to voice mail.  It was a 'Dave Brown' calling. He was so unprofessional and just didn't explain himself clearly at all.

I suppose some people are just far too trusting.
I'm naturally a pessimist, so I would ask for the company name, name of the person calling and call back number. Then go do your homework to verify the authenticity of the call.

Do yourself a favour - if you see a number you don't recognize on call display, don't touch the phone.
If you don't have call display, I recommend it - there's far too many people out there ready to waste your time.

I received a call from Michael Anderson with a Indian accent, said I had won a 2014 Mercedes and 5 million dollars. I should go immediately to Walmart, Walgreens, or CVS and get a Greenpak money card for $300.00 to pay the tax on my winnings. I would receive the money and car later that day. He also said that they had an airplane and would be at my door with the winnings that day. I said this is a scam he swore to god that it was not lol. He has continued to call me from 876-850-2237. He also said I could wire the money to Shauna Wiggins, 209 Boozer Dr. Jacksonville Alabama 36265. If i did not want to use Greenpak. Please be careful these people are evil.

I'm really dissapointed with this phone scams freedom - they can do whatever....I don't wan't to go to details, because it's all the same BS about millions winning and rush to Wallmart for Green Dot scrach card or Western Union check, every time they call me, I put them on my "reject calls" list, this is the only way to ignore them. I think, it will be helpful for everybody to have list of numbers, that they call me from for the last two weeks (I have no idea, why I'm so important to them);

If it is any consolation, most of these Jamaican scammers are dirt poor.  The ones calling only get a small fraction of the money.  I live in Jamaica and once at a friends house in the country could actually hear the people next door making these calls.  I was horrified but didn't dare call the police.  The government is trying to catch them and a lot of people are being killed because of the scam by police and other criminals.  Perhaps some of your money actually put food in a little child's belly.  Small comfort, I know.
