These people called just a bit ago and my sweet husband was too kind to just hang up so now they keep calling back. It's obviously a scam and we both knew it. We never sign up for sweepstakes or give-aways. You can't win a contest you didn't enter!

Forgot to mention that at first, he said he called from Publisher's Clearing House. When I later repeated it, he pretended he never said that.
The man tried to twist the story, hoping he could fool me. He told me to pay $685.00 USD for a receipt at, "The Walmart." I seriously doubt someone was at my local Walmart to pick up said payment. The entire story was a scam.
2.2 million USD as a prize, and a 2014 Mercedes Benz, to be delivered to my house with the American Prize Patrol, 2 US marshals, and an FBI agent, according to what he told me.
The story just utterly screamed scam.
I talked to this guy for over 30 minutes total (including times he called back for verification) to make sure (without a doubt) that it was a scam, mainly because I had never won much of anything in my life. There were just too many flaws in the man's story, though.
What worries me is that some people may be taken advantage of by such people.
So, for future reference (and possible victims), you need to know that no monetary prize will ever charge you for the reward. Taxes are taken out either automatically, or you file them at the end of the year, but you don't have to file taxes on the prize until you receive it. This means even if you are told you won in 2006 and do not get the prize until 2012, you do not have to file taxes on the prize until the 2012 year.

This number is a scam number. These people call to tell you that you've won a prize of some sort. The man that called me told me he was part of the "American Prize Patrol." It already sounded suspicious the moment he told me I had to make a payment to receive a receipt to claim the prize. YOU DO NOT EVER HAVE TO PAY TO RECEIVE A MONETARY PRIZE.
The man called himself James Carter, which was yet another suspicious action (I mean, come on, it's obviously fake). When he called me, it showed up as Jamaica on my phone, and I asked where the business was located. He told me that it was in New York and Nevada. Suuure, it was, "James."
The fact of the matter is that this man is a fraud. There were just too many loopholes in his story. There's also the matter that, when I repeated things he'd told me, he kept telling me I didn't understand, and then completely changed what he had said like I had misheard him. I'm not a fool, but the man called me disingenuous after that. Someone working for such a company wouldn't say such things to begin with. Furthermore, the man just had too many flaws in the way he was speaking. He just didn't sound like he was American, especially with his constant mention of, "The Walmart," that was where I was supposed to pick up this receipt. No one I know in the US says, "The Walmart." It's just, "Walmart."
