Claims to be with Publisher's Clearing House. I hung up and called back. I asked him if he liked scamming people out of their hard earned money. He said I was wasting his time and said he only gives out prizes. He was very irate and hung up on me. People like this ask you to open a money card and give them the information to the card. They then take that information and the money and you get nothing. DO NOT play along. This is a SCAM!!!

I received the same call. from the same number. Said he was calling from Publisher's Clearing House, go buy the $500 card, I was getting a $1 Million and a Range Rover, and I needed the card within 30 minutes..He said it was being brought here on a jet. When I explained I knew that wasn't possible...in my little town there is no place for it to land...he changed his story. He said he would call back in 30 minutes to see if I had the card before they arrived.

The man said I would be receiving a check for $1,000,000.00 from Donald Trump the next day.  He said Donald would be flying into the Mobile Airport to present the check and a new SUV. All I needed to do was go to a drug store early tomorrow and put $1,000.00 on  Money Pack card to take care of shipping and handling.  He kept asking for my cell phone number and I told him he should have it on the entry that I supposedly sent in to them.

Prank Call
Guy called pronounced CALIFORNIA really weirdly, said he was from publishers clearing house, and that I had won a range rover and 1 million plus dollars.  I told him that could not be, since I had not entered any competitions.  He asked if I knew Donald Trump and John Washington and said I had to call back.  I was laughing and said ok.  I went online and checked out the number, sure enough he's a scammer.  He called back two more times and I did not answer.
If you ever do win a prize from Publishers Clearing house, I think they show up on your doorstep.  Do these people think we are that stupid??  Anyway it was funny, but I guess it would not have been that funny, if I had taken him seriously.

As I am sure you know, there is never a reason to call back an "876" number these foul smelling chiggers provide. NEVER!  Sadly you will discover that the authorities can not/will not do anything to combat these vile creatures. It is up to us - just as "crowd sourcing" helped to locate the Boston bombers - to exterminate this vermin. When these black stained rodents call again - and they will - please:

1) Answer the phone and try to prolong the call. Ask it to repeat information: its name, its location, etc. The more time it spends talking to you, the less time it has to call other potential victims.

2) Frustrate the caller. If it appears to be in a hurry, talk even more slowly. If it talks slowly, speak rapidly. A frustrated chigger makes mistakes.

3) Determine exactly what information it has about you. Usually it is just your phone number and perhaps your first name. In some cases,  these vile creatures DO have most of your personal information. What should you do in that case? Poison their database. "Oh, that is my old address. Here, let me give you my current one." At which point you can provide the address of a vacant lot or maybe the address of your local police station. Use your imagination.

4) Try to extract as much information from it as possible. There are many variants of this scam currently active. If they are using the "Green Dot Card" version you MUST switch them to a different one (suggest sending them a check but compromise on using a "Moneygram.")

5) Record the call and share that information here in this forum. When you post, please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name.

Thanks

I was constantly getting calls from the Jamaican vermin. They were absolutely relentless with the calls. 3 to 4 times a week for months. Not answering was not the answer here.  I picked up the phone a few times and listened to what he had to say. He kept telling me to go to walmart and get a money pack and call him back. I told him no and to f+*%# off. And hung up. He then called me back and got extremely violent on the phone and repeated the walmart directive or he would come here and rape and murder me and the rest of my family.  I then told him that he had better watch who he threatens on the phone because he has no idea who he is dealing with and that he would never get any money out of me.  I then said that he didn't scare me and to watch his back. I never heard from him again.

Nicole, you "politely told him??!!"

This is one of the reasons why this scam has persisted for more than FIVE years, people responding to the voice on the other end of the line as if it were a human - a creature capable of rational thought and civilized behavior. It is not - it is a woolly headed, foul smelling, little black stained rodent.

Nicole, let me ask you this, "If you had a rodent infestation in your garage, what would you do?" Would you ask it to leave? (politely of course) Would you provide it with health care and hope the problem went away? (I doubt that would be any more effective than our national nightmare of Obamacare.) So, what would you?

Hopefully, you would place down poison. Perhaps you would also bait several traps. You might even obtain a predator to hunt and feed on these useless creatures. In my "Final Solution: Ending The Jamaican Scam," this is exactly what I insist we must do.

When I saw "Jamaica" as the origin, I answered and put it on mute.
I could hear what sounded like a weed-trimmer in the background!
After a few moments , someone with a thick accent said "naughty, naughty, party" and hung up.

Annon,  you might be surprised to learn that over 30,000 calls are placed DAILY from Jamaica to the United States for the purpose of trying to swindle/extort money. In most cases, these foul smelling creatures have only your phone number and will try to extract additional information from you using the ruse of trying to verify your correct name/address so they can deliver the prize package.

I was first contacted by these filthy, little animals, when I received a call from something calling itself "John Baker" (yesterday it was "James Faulkner".) In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 2.5 million dollars from "Mega Millions" in Las Vegas. It instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS, load it with $499.25 to pay for my "registration fees." A few days after this call, I was shocked to see this particular scam featured on ABC World News. During that segment, they played the audio of a conversation between an elderly woman - who had already sent them $85,000 - and one of these black stained rodents.

When these roaches call again - which they will - please record the call and share that information here in this forum. Please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name. Over the next few days, I will be posting a "Final Solution," as to how we can end this scam ... permanently. Thanks.

Prank Call
I just rec'd a call from a John Washington stating I had won 2.5 million dollars and a white Bentley.  Told me Donald Trump would be delivering me the car personally w/the check in the morning.  He didn't ask for anything when I asked him okay I know this is a scam and how much do I have to pay (just to quench my curiosity) he stated nothing that I had won all of this because of a random phone # contest.  He stated the "Chairman" would call me back in the morning to explain everything, he asked if I would be at work and I told him I was unemployed at this time. He said well "God had blessed me" and asked if I had been praying for this....Told him I had been praying for a lot of things.
So I have no doubts it was bogus but I had a good laugh over it.  But feel sorry for the people that believed him and were really in need of those promises.

I have been receiving calls from this number on my cell phone but I never picked up the call until today. The man on the other end was rude and vulgar when I asked him not to call me again and that my name was not Amy. He hung up on me. I was so mad. I called right back and he answered, "this is Washington". Then I gave him a piece of my mind and hang up on him. From reading everybody's comments, it looks like this person has been doing this since last year. We need to stop him!

Prank Call
@ Engineer and John Strange, I received a phone call Jamaica with almost the same, identical information as you. Supposedly, I was talking to two different men and they informed me that my phone number was randomly selected from Publisher's Clearing House which was "affiliated" with Caesar's Palace Company, whom they were claiming to represent.

One guy was named George Rogers---a very obvious, made-up name, especially considering the fact he had an extremely thick accent that I could not even decipher where from, and the other was a foreign name that I could barely understand because of his thick, hard to understand English. Heck---for all I know, they both could have been the same guy!

They stated that their "team" were on standby at the local Range Rover dealership from the city in which I live, with Donald Trump waiting to present to me a Range Rover of my color choice and a check for 1.9 million dollars. They went into elaborate detail of giving me a phony prize claim number and said that I had to go to RiteAid to get a MoneyPack Reload Card and put 500.00 on it. They explained the reason for getting the card was because Trump already paid 99% of the taxes I would have been required to pay for the prize money and that the 500.00 would have been very small compared to what I would have actually paid had Trump not covered the expenses.

They also proceeded to tell me that I needed to do all of this before 4:30 (it was 3:30 when they called me) and asked me if I would like to be on t.v when receiving my prize or if I preferred that it not be taped. I was also told to dress very nicely since they claimed Trump was arriving and they would be rolling out the Red Carpet all the way up to the steps of my door.

I was not buying into any of it one bit, but as I was playing along I noticed their little slip-ups. For instance, I told them I "wanted to receive my prize in private", but later in the conversation he slipped up and said to be dressed my best for Trump, the Red Carpet and all the video cameras since I was going to be on t.v.

Another idiot move was when guy #1 with the foreign name called me from the exact same number as the one he gave me to call guy #2 (George Rogers) to get my prize claim number. Apparently they know nothing about Caller ID.

The third idiot move was when I called the number (as I was playing along) and "George" answered before the end of the first ring and spoke with almost the same exact accent as guy #1.

I played along and answered their questions, the whole time writing down all the information I could get on them to turn them in to the authorities.

My advice from personal experience as a victim of identity theft, just hang up if it sounds outlandish or better yet, don't answer if it is an odd 1-800 looking number from another country and report it immediately!!

Received a call from Jamaica too, saying I'd won the big PCH prize and a Range Rover.  Wanted to know where I was and for me to go to walgreens to get a $4 money pak card for $500 and I could keep the card -- they just needed to verify that I had it to prove that I would pay 1% taxes on the car.  Then we could go to my bank or if it was closed they could give me the cash.  They have a money counter and said would come in a Brinks type truck.  Gave the names of Scott Rosenburg and Bill Anderson as the head honchos leading the team.

I just got a call from this number saying I was a Publishers clearing house winner and had won 1.5 million dollars and a new Range Rover. I was then instructed to call the number back by 5:00 pm and speak with the manager, Bill Anderson, to claim my prize. Needless to say I will not be calling back to claim my prize after reading the previous posts. I just wanted to share my encounter.

Will these lowlifes never stop? Doubtful! Said he was from Publishers Clearinghouse. With a Jamaican area code? Not a chance! He was irate when I called him on this. But folks, this isn't funny. These predators come at our elderly, and most of them don't use computers. So please tell everyone you know about this, especially the seniors in your life.
