Debt Collector
according to the FTC, a debt collection caller must give their name, a valid mailing address, and phone number and tell you who they represent.  If you send them a letter demanding they stop calling you, they cannot by law call you again.  If you yourself are not the debtor, but rather just someone the alleged debtor used as a reference, then the call is harassment and should be reported to the FTC

I am receiving threatening phone calls again from this company regarding a pay day loan that I supposedly owed to Eastside Lenders. I have never heard of this company[Eastside Lenders] and do not have an outstanding debt with them. This is the second time they have called me. They called with another Scam saying I owed Cash Advance an outstanding amount as well. When I threatened to go to my lawyer the calls ceased.

About every 3-4 weeks I get a call from this number same thing trying to scare you. I did have some payday loans in the past but they have all been paid off.  Don't let anyone fool you into paying money you don't owe.  As above there are laws about debt collecting and you are protected and there is not Debtors Jail

Received a call from Kathy Wells, independent processor about a file. She asked me if I knew about it and I told her no. She proceeded to make threatening remarks about serving me with papers at work.  I am filing a complaint against whomever this company is, I may not have the name but I do have the phone number she gave me 877-204-5782.

It's a total scam. don't even bother calling them back. They all give the same spill- saying you have been officially served and notified... blah, blah, blah~~~ No written notice from the company. They are using another companies name. Do not send them money or even bother calling them. I always ask the rep---- "why don't you just get a real job"!!!!  And then they try to play dumb and hang up... Don't be FOOLED. Do not give out any information or even talk to them. I hate people like this!

this number called my phone last week, left a nasty email saying that my husband needs to be served and they want me his wife to verify his information. they have never called his phone.
then they called me again thismorning, and stupid me answered the phone. i talked to some lady named kathy or kelly wells, she gave me a refrance number and this number again, and said that some one or some company has filed a complaint against my husband. and some one was supposed to have served him some kind of documents to his home and or place of work. she wanted me to give her phone numbers and addresses, and his job title. i said no i am not allowed to give out any information about him. and that she will not get it. i also asked why there is a complaint against him and what is the complaint for. she said she couldnt tell me that i have to call this number back with the refrance number. my husband doesnt owe any money and has to liens or any thing against him. he doesnt even own a credit card! and i find it very suspiciouse that they would be calling me about him insted of him! they never showed up to drop off any kind of documents, or what ever. so this has got to be a scam. im wondering if its for identity theft or what? if you get a call about this number, dont give any info what so ever. if you are actually going to be served any kind of papers or documents, they WONT CALL YOU AHEAD OF TIME. i spoke to some one who is a law perfectional (srry cant spell today) and told me that if any one is going to be served they will not notifiy you, they just server you. so most likely it is a scam!

I got a call from this number I first went to BBB the federal business bureu. I typed in the phone number and direct law didnt come up then i typed the number and first american nothing came up. I called the BBB and reported that they called me and something is not right. After that as the day goes by I recieved another phone call saying that this is Miss Kelly and some other business put a claim against me. first of if I owed a debt with any company it would show up on my credit report. Also it would give the name and business number for the collection agency.  Furthermore I called the national credit/debit agencies hot line and they said it was a scam. If they do take you to court it would have to be done where you are at and not where they are located. It seems strange that a east coast agency will call a west coast home. So I dug further into this little thing and found out if a company is trying to collect a debt they will try to keep it out of the courts for it costs more money so what they do is give it to a agency to collect the debt then goes on your credit report. So in the long run if it is not on your credit report then don't pay it.

We got a call from this number who claimed to be a case processor.  She said that she received a complaint from a co worker and would be coming to our door with paperwork...that it was going to be done today, but got postponed, however...we could avoid this by calling this number (gave some case number too) and settle the matter before it got that far.  I did searches on US Search and it says it is not a valid number.  Be aware, it's just another clever trick to get personal information from you and get you to send them money...most likely on a debt that was long ago written off, and you no longer owe.

This is a collection agency ploy to scare people into paying debts that have already been written off by the debtors, but then sold off to collection agencies who try every which way they can to trick you into paying them money you no longer owe

Got a call today from a Stacy Davis giving the same threat about being served some kind of paper for a debt.  She never named any company but said a co-worker had filed a complaint and I should call this number 877-204-5782 to settle the matter.  This is obviously another "ploy" being used by a collection agency or scam artist to wrangle money by using fear tactics

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

This is a scam. The person 'Echo' that wrote on here that it is NOT a scam is on every other message board saying the same thing. You work for them. I'm glad I have the good sense to google instead of whipping out my debit card to a complete stranger over the phone.

very simple pay day loan was taken out and not paid...since those loans are not pursuable in court since they dont have an actual signature...this is what they do..the problem these are people likely working out of their living room that purchased these bills for pennies on the dollar...so trying to get them for violations of the FDCPA and FTC complaints are worthless since you will only get a phone # and never an address...they cant do anything to you and they will violate every collection law imaginable including calling your relatives.....DONT PAY THEM

Speak the truth Susan.....Also if you truely owe that money, go through Western Union and pay with a Money Order.  But people lets me real here, why in the world would some company wait until 3-4years later and say you owe on a debt.  I mean really......I received the same call just today and do you know them heffas will not answer the phone.  Also if you are serving me papers don;t call me and tell me just serve the damn papers.  If you are going to garnish my check do what the IRS does just take it.  but you know for yourself that your company can not do that unless they get a okay from a judge to do so.  Until then, I'm going to live life just like I have before.  PEOPLE WAKE UP!
