You're just a troll covering up for the scammers or else you are a scammer too. This s*** isn't legit. Don't ever give out your ss#.

Daryl,

Call spoofing (using a caller ID other than the actual number you dialed from) is easy enough if you have the right technology, no web site required.  So yes, I always suggest looking up the number for yourself, and calling back.

As for your financial issues, I hope you can work them out.  Money issues destroy a lot of marriages.  May I respectfully mention that Dave Ramsey's books and courses can be helpful for some?

Most of all, I wish you and your wife the best, and hope this all gets worked out.

I intercepted a letter from Macy's that had this Phone number on it.  The letter stated my wife had exceeded the credit limit.  I suspected it was a scam until I confronted her and found out she (we) owes $20k. Finally, this explains where the extra money has been going!  While I am pissed that I have to come up with the $20k I'm more disappointed that she let it get so far out of control and didn't tell me.  Tomorrow I will find out what she has purchased over the past few years and how much Interest has been paid out.  So friends, don't be too quick to dismiss the phone calls or letters as a scam.  Someone in your home may be in trouble and either afraid or too ashamed to fess up.  If it happens to you, take a deep breath and stay cool.

One other thought - i believe there is a web site the makes it possible for anyone to make a cell phone call using someone else's caller I'd.  So, a scammer could call you from their phone and the caller I'd would read American express or any number they choose.  Beware!

just called Macy's back. and spoke with Mary at the extension she had given us. The original call was from a man who had explained everything, then transferred to Mary to confirm. When I asked about the special offer from the guy, she said he was mistaken and she didn't know where he had gotten that information. Hmmmmm. makes you wonder...

This toll free number is on the back of my new Macy's American Express card. They called because I'd not yet activated my card and had a special offer to receive a $25 credit if I spent $50 at Macy's by the end of March. The rep gave me her name and extension to call back if I didn't feel comfortable with them originating the call.

Got a call and text message.  Text message is "You've got a new voicemail from 877 204-7996".  There is no vmail.  Assume it is the same scam as mentioned above.  However, the last report was Dec 1, so they're still at it a week later.

Called back again. This time, a human being answered the phone. It seems to be the Macy's credit card scam that is widely reported throughout the internet.

Called twice this morning. Hang up when I answer. The days after Thanksgiving must be a big day for telemarketing scams.

The call is NOT from Macys...it's a scam.  It is the same telephone number that was used to call during the spring for the Census scam trying to obtain your social security number and bank information.  When I paid my Macy's American Express Card Friday, I went to the Customer Service Department and them about this call.  Macy's said they knew nothing about the call and that they were NOT calling people about their new American Express Card. They told me to report the calls to the police.

When I answered the call from this number, the ran the scam that Macys had just transferred from a VISA card to an American Express card and that they needed to verify information to make sure people were not trying to use the card without authorization.  They asked me to verify the card by giving them my social security number.  My response, you give me the social security number you have on file and I will tell you if it is correct or not.  The person said they could not do that as they did not know if I was the person with the number.  I said then give me the last four digits.  They once again refused.  I said let's continue to talk while I get the police on the other line and they said disconnected the call.  ITS A SCAM.  BE CAREFUL. THEY ARE TRYING TO GET YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.
