I understand why they are calling but their tactics like everyone else sucks. I sue everyone that calls me wether I owe the money or not for robo calling. All anyone has to do is wait till my answering machine picks up and leave a message. This has been secessfully done my me and many others. Just google it. The law does see it as harasment. Just make sure they are calling your cell phone and you have at least on one occasion told not to stop calling the your number. After that it's $500 per incident plus anything else you want to throw in. I ususally skip the mental anguish part.
You should see the lawsuits I put out when a debt buyer tries to collect.! Those are lovely.
Honestly the money I get only pays for beer and gas but it does send a message.
Heck I yelled at GoDaddy.com the other day for robo calling me and not leaving a message. All GoDaddy wanted was to say hello and welcome to the GoDaddy family! It wasn't a good day to be an operator extending an olive branch not expecting an irate customer.
Remember in some places it costs less than $100 to file a lawsuit in district court. Happy litigating!

Continental Finance, part of Capital Management debt collection services, a trash debt collector. Very untrustworthy, in my opinion. See Bud Hibbs website. They buy up past-statuate debt instruments for pennies on the dollar, as well as handle legitimate skip-trace debt accounts. They are one of the largest phone-solicitor based debt collectors in the country. Their general modus operendi is to try to intimidate people with similar names/addresses/phone numbers into paying the debt. They don't care whether you are the correct person or not, so don't even bother trying to talk to them about that. If you chose to answer their calls and give them any information whatsoever, they will use it to try to get you to pay. Any willingness you show to work with them to help find the real debtor will be rewarded by a thorough Rogering. Treat them as though you were in a court of law trying to execute court supervised "discovery" processes: Tell them simply that you dispute the debt and demand their company name and mailing address, then demand verification of the debt in writing (they don't have much if anything but a name, acct number, phone # and balance). Ask for verification of the date the debt went into default (they won't give it to you outside a court order). Ask for verification of original creditor (they might tell you). Ask for verification of who owns the debt now and for how much it was purchased (never outside of a court ordered discovery process!). And finally, end your call by telling them you will contact them by mail and that you demand all future contact with you on the matter be made by mail. Do not give them your address at this time, just tell them you will provide it by mail in the official dispute & verification demand letter you will be sending them as a follow up to the phone conversaton. Hang up and do not answer any more calls from them that day. Start a log book. Note the date of the initial phone contact and a brief synopsis of what was said. Note all follow-up phone contacts in your log book. And this is most IMPORTANT: Do IMMEDIATELY follow up you phone demands with a letter formally restating that you dispute the debt and demand verification of the debt in accordance with the terms of 15 USC 15 USC 1692g Section 809. If you don't have a PO box, get one and use it as the contact address for this type of correspondence. Send your letter certified mail, signature receipt required & copy your attorney. Once you receive the signature verification card back, be extra diligent in keeping your log of every phone call they make, date & time and whether you answered it or not. If you do answer, keep it short and do not let yourself be side-tracked or enraged by their responses: get a name of the person who called you, remind them of your demands for mail contact only and quietly hang up. You do not owe them the curtesy of listening to their speel; hang up when YOU are done. Make a note in your log of the name of the caller and that you reiterated your demands and what their verbal responses were like. Be very diligent in this. It will be key in any lawsuit you might later decide to pursue. If after 30 days they have not responded to you with a letter showing verification of the debt, take your demand letter, your logbook and your anger to your attorney and see if he will recommend someone who would like to represent you in a FDCPA suit under 15 USC 1692g section 809(b)(unless he is experienced in this area of Law and wants to do it himself). If they do send you something they call verification, take all of it with your logbook and demand letter to your attorney and see if he thinks you have the basis for a suit or should pursue other avenues for dealing with them. Good luck.

The company is Continental Finance. I get calls 5-8 times a day from them if my CC payment is one day late and ususally the phone rings at work and after one ring hangs up. No message. Than two seconds later my cell phone rings and the same thing, one ring and hang up. They never leave a message. When you call back they will answer and tell you why they are calling. I think this is "terrible" customer service and I refuse to talk to them unless they are willing to call and let the phone actually ring and allow me time to answer or leave a message for me to call them back.

Continental Finance sucks. You have to be a complete braindead Obama-bot zombie to work for this company. Persistent, egregious violations of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. Here is how to get even with these tools: Block your Caller ID and call them back at 716-844-3197. Have fun!!!!!!!

I also have had problems with Continental Finance. I was one day late on payment and they started calling numerous times. I was going to pay the bill when I got paid (two days later) from debit card but they wanted me to pay them over the phone right then and add on $8.00 charge for check processing. I told them no. They continued to call so I told them to cancel the account and I would pay it off monthly. They called yesterday 30 times on my home phone and 14 times on my cell phone. They were calling and then calling 2-3 minutes later..all from this same number. I picked up the phone last night and yelled at them to stop calling me every few minutes and they did stop last night, however it has started again this morning since 9:00 a.m. with about 12 call so far and it is 1:30 now.

Also uses these numbers:
866-449-4530
800-394-0368
716-844-3197
866-451-0939
I finally did it! After months of them callig me EVERY day, I got up the nerve to answer and "play" with them! Just to try and annoy them as much as they have been annoying me!
The phone rang, I saw it was them and I answered and loudly said like I knew ho I was talking to (a friend?) "Hello! I can't talk now I'm at the casino!" and then I hung up! LOL!
I'm not a deadbeat. I got laid off in January. I'm working part-time for less money and can barely pay my rent and utilities. Continental Finance doesn't care though.

They call 2-3 times a day. Everytime they ask for a Joann and I keep telling them she does not live here. They STILL keep calling. Finally I asked them if they had a hearing problem and told them if they called back I was going to sue them for harrassment. They never called back again.
