Yep. I got one from them on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. After listening to his rhetoric, I gave my opinion on the tax, very logically with no profanity or yelling...just explaining the facts. He ended up hanging up on me in a real big hurry once he figured out he couldn't "sell" the proposal to me. LOL!

Here are some articles related to DemocracyData.com, one of the behind the scenes players, and a likely source of these calls on behalf of "Maimstreet Alliance".

The Alliance for Main Street Fairness is a group that would like you to believe that they are just trying to look out for that little Mom and Pop store on the corner, run by your next door neighbor and his wife.

That's why they have down home activities like a "fly in" so you can fire up your private plane for a little get together.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, just that it isn't really my idea of a beleaguered small business.

So what do they want?  Well, instead of adapting to a changing marketplace, and learning to compete on a new playing field, they think you should pay more taxes in order for them to be more competitive with big players like Amazon.  No, they don't think your wallet should get a break.  No, they don't think that they should have to move with the times.  They want protectionism, plain and simple.  Never mind that while we don't pay taxes on such purchases, we do have to pay shipping.  Isn't that enough of a leveler for these "please mommy, I want to be protected" whining entrepreneurs?

I have to wonder who is really funding this "grass roots" (ahem!) movement.  Especially when big retailers like Walmart and Target have been stumbling around trying to figure out how to compete in an e-commerce world.

And in a world where politicians are forever on the prowl for ways to grab more of our money, just which parties and pacs have a hand in this jolly jet set whine and dine group?  I see Dick Durbin is front and center.  Also Congressman Steve Womack and Congresswoman Jackie Speier.  I guess their campaign war chests will enjoy a nice little "topping off".

If the Maim Streeters (spelling intentional) have their way, we will no longer enjoy the open marketplace that the Internet has been.  It will have all of the taxes and bureaucratic interference of shopping off line.  YAY!

So, when they call asking you to lobby your senators to impose an Internet tax on on-line purchases (that means you!), let them know how much you appreciate their desire to be "protected" at your expense.

Here is Maim Street central: <http://standwithmainstreet.com/content.aspx?page=about> for those who are interested.

This company has bee calling my home 7 to 8 times a day early morning late night for weeks.  Who is this from.  I don't have any debt so can't guess it is a bill collector.  When you answer they let you talk and then hang up.  Tried to block can't.

They also use 855-632-3124 number.
