I just got a call at 10:27 PM and my 17 year old daughter got a call from the 216 number.  Didnt answer, but this scam went on here in Yakima, Washington about 3 weeks ago as well. Caused a lot of people problems with our Credit Union.  I NEVER answer 800, 866, or 877 numbers.  I figure if its important they will leave a message and I can call back. Pass the word.

They called today at 7am.  It was a recorded message saying they were my bank (but did not specify which bank) and my account had been compromised and deactivated.  They said press 1 to reactivate it.  I hung up. I have a north Texas number.

Called to tell me my ATM card was deactivated and to press 1 to reactivate it. The phone they called is a company phone and is not listed with any banks or credit cards. Definately a fraud or scam.

Saturday evening 9:10 pm. Says toll free on the  caller id with the same 877-216-5114 number.  Answering machine picked up and the voice being recorded told me my ATM card was deactivated due to possible fraudulent charges, then to press 1 for help.

Oh sure. And the Tardis will actually appear on my front lawn.

My daughter & I both received calls from this number on our cell phones. Caller (obviously computer-generated voice) claimed to be from Park Bank (Madison WI), that our ATM cards had been de-activated and we needed to "press 1" to get them re-activated. Neither of us even has an account at Park Bank so we hung up on them. We're hearing from friends & co-workers that they have also received these calls so I guess it's some scam that's making the rounds in this part of the country.

same as everyone else. Claimed to be Flagstar but since I don't bank there I hung up. Sent an e-mail to all my co-workers about the scam--just a thought for everyone. Knowledge is power. And make sure to inform the elderly as they are probably most likely to fall victim.

I awoke at 6:24am to my cell phone ringing this morning.  It was this number:  1-877-216-5114.  I instantly thought something was wrong, as it was so early in the morning, so I answered.  It was a recording that said:  This is a message to inform you that your Flagstar Bank card has been deactivated.  To reactivate this card, press 1.  I immediately hung up.  Here is why:  (A)-I don't have an account with Flagstar Bank, (B)-it was 6:24am in the morning and (C)-a bank will NEVER ask you to reactivate a card over the phone.

Prank Call
I got a call at 5:56 am EDT today saying my credit card needed to be re-activated by pressing 1, or pressing 2 to cancel the card.  I pressed 1 and was asked for my 16 digit credit card number, so I hung up.  This is obviously a credit card scam.  How come no law enforcement authority is doing anything about it?  Somebody 'owns' 877-216-5114 since they must be paying a monthly fee to have the 877 number.  Cant anybody shut them down?  You can contact me at csincatl3@cs.com

Similar to everyone else, phone call at 2:25 in the morning. Thought it was my alarm and hung it up, realizing in sleepy haze it was a phone call...saw the 800 # and went back to sleep. Tried calling once awake to nothing.

I received a call from this number on my cell phone at 11:42 a.m. EST.  Not being very trusting of numbers I don't recognise, I opened and closed my phone, answering and hanging up on them.  I googled the number and read all of these messages.  I called my bank, a credit union, to make sure nothing had happened to see if they had had any similar calls.  So far no one else has called.  I didn't try calling back, since from what everyone else says it doesn't sound like much would be accomplished.  I'm also on the Do Not Call list.

Latest Phishing Scam Relies On Telephone Calls
Scammers 'reaching out and touching' their victims

April 6, 2010
By now, most Internet-savvy consumers are wise to the spam emails that look like they are from a bank or financial institution, warning that prompt action is needed to avoid losing access to an account.
Usually that "prompt action" is supplying your date of birth, social security number, and all manner of personal information that could be used to steal your identity. When we see these emails, most of us simply ignore or delete them.
So scammers appear to have reverted to an old fashioned way to phish for information. They pick up the phone and call victims. In Pennsylvania, Attorney General Tom Corbett is warning his state's residents to be on the look out for these kinds of phishing calls.
"These bogus 'security alerts' typically warn that credit card or bank accounts may have been compromised and ask consumers to respond by 'confirming' or 'verifying' their account numbers," Corbett said. "The sole purpose of these calls is to convince unwary victims to reveal their account numbers and passwords so that thieves can steal money from their bank accounts or make large purchases with their credit cards."
Corbett said identity thieves are always looking for ways to disguise their schemes and reach out to new potential victims. In the latest scam, they use live operators and automated calls disguised as communication from banks, credit card companies or other legitimate businesses.
'Account security'
Corbett noted that the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection has been receiving an increasing number of complaints about unwanted "account security" calls and messages all across the state.
He pointed out that legitimate businesses will not call or message consumers asking them to provide their entire account number, password or PIN number -- so any request for that level of detailed personal information should be a clear warning sign of a scam.
"While some businesses may contact consumers to alert them about potential problems with their accounts, they will not ask individuals to divulge all of their account information by phone or email," Corbett said. "If you do receive a message asking for detailed account information, contact your bank or credit card directly -- using the customer service hotline printed on your card or monthly statement -- to report the scam attempt and also to verify that your account is secure."
Corbett said that any consumer who suspects they have accidentally divulged personal information in response to a scam should immediately contact their bank or credit card company to stop any unauthorized withdrawals or charges to their accounts.
