Sounds like "rich" is the person causing us all grief. Bite me jerk.

Definitely a scam, they asked for our federal tax ID number and a voided check in order to upgrade our credit card terminal to comply with the new "chipped" cards. I called our actual Merchant Services provider and they confirmed that this was not a legitimate call and to not give them any of our information.

Got called and left a message saying it was urgent that I contact them about my merchant services. Sounded really unprofessional and definitely NOT from my processing company. Glad I looked it up-- though I now know that pretty much any company that calls you in regards to your credit card processing is a fraud, scam, or a really awful processing company trying to trick you into switching to their really awful service.

Echoing the sentiments above, a voicemail was left from 877-218-8833 with a message "It is imperative that we speak to you concerning your merchant account." Well, they don't even say from what bank or institution they are calling so, of course, you know it's a scam right off.

Just got the message today on voicemail. Woman reading poorly from a script.

Do you really think that a company who gives away "free" terminals and purports to reduce rates is going to be able to stay in business? They want to give you a "free" machine because they set it up to track all the information that crosses its path. If you're that naïve, you deserved to be scammed. You're the type that keeps these companies calling.

How is it a scam reduced rates and free terminal is not a scam.
| rich 2014-06-19 14:19:32 Unknown |
I don't think a company that sends out free terminal and reduces the rates is a bad thing.

I have had 3 calls from this 877-218-8883 and they are all around 9 p.m. Eastern time. I'm glad I Googled this phone number to see others are getting the same call. The person that called has always been someone by the name of Jen.

They called me at 8:49 pm on a Sunday.

Go the same urgent message on my answering machine. He should be glad I didn't pick up or I'd tell him to go F*** himself. If my merchant services called me the would not just say they are merchant services but they would state their company name first.

Checking voicemail on Monday AM, there was an "Urgent" msg saying it was imperative that I call "Merchant Services" ASAP about our credit card machine. I compared the phone number they left with the number of our credit card processor and what do you know...they are two different numbers!! I came here and got the scoop. Be careful folks they are out there 24/7 trying to think of new ways to get our info.

Thanks for the post. They called me too so now I know to ignore it.

Definitely a phishing attempt/scam. Also left multiple urgent messages to call about our biz credit card machine. When I called back, spoke to "Mike" who assured me his company was fully authorized to act on behalf of our current processing company and that we needed new "free" machine to comply with new chipped cards. When he stated that all they needed was a voided company check and our Fed ID#, then the red flags went up. I told him I'd get back to him, which I did, after speaking to our real processing company who stated that this was a scam. I called the police who said that unfortunately so many people for all sorts of things like this, and there's nothing you can do until AFTER your identity is compromised. How sad. So, I called "Mike" back just to let him know that I was onto him. Hopefully that will put an end to the calls. No doubt they will change numbers soon and call us again. It pays to be paranoid, people!!!!!!

This is a scam or some kind of phishing attempt. They left an automated message on my business voice mail about being "merchant services" and it being imperative that they contact me about my credit card terminal PCIDSS compliance. Too bad I don't accept credit cards and don't have a credit card terminal.
