I used Mr. Number to block the call and then got this message:

"1-877-224-6529 is not a valid number. If you are sure that you got a phone call from a number beginning with this prefix, the caller may have "spoofed" caller ID."

This number 1-877-224-5803, as well as 877-213-1826, 508-882-7533 (Oakham, MA) 951-289-4361 and 708-965-4589 are just a few of the numbers that Alzheimer's use to call.  16 calls in less than 3 days and that does not include the vast amount of calls per month and per year. Once I was able to verify that they were all tied to Alzheimer's (a few did have name listed), I called Alzheimer's main office to report.  I usually donate to them, but, have never supplied a telephone number. Noted this to them as well as noted that my number is unpublished unlisted and on the registry of do not call.  Again, not sure how they obtained my number.  They did apologize and state they would remove immediately, only time will tell.  Also, removed address from system for all mailings.  I did mention the blogs too and noted that perhaps they would retain more of their donors if they stopped with all of the calls/hang ups.

I don't answer the phone when I don't know who's calling.  I block the number.  IF this IS an Alzheimer's Association-affiliated organization, they aren't calling me because I donated in the past.  I don't donate to the Alzheimer's Association because they were absolutely worthless when I needed help for my mother.  They don't get a dime from me -- ever!  So if you're connected to these pests, cross my name off your list.  I don't donate to pests, and I don't donate to useless organizations.

Today they used a different #887-224-5803,yesterday they used #708-965-4589.  How many #'S do they have ?  This sure gives the orginazation a bad.............name.

Alzheimers telemarketer from "Dial it" .Hundreds of calls in the last year over several dozen phone #'s from various locations around the country. Optimum is incompetent and impotent in blocking the callers. The Caller is much better educated or has better technology than Optimum.

Thought I had blocked all the #'s for Alzheimers Telemarketers. All was quite for 6 months. Guess they figured that out and got a new bunch of #'s. Here we go again. Thank you Washington!

BTW, I'm listing Call Type as Telemarketer, because the Non Profit charities farm all this work out. So guess who gets the lion's share of your donation. If you want to donate to a charity, do it directly, not through a third party who is only interested in profits, not research or the person in need. Better yet, instead of writing a check, volunteer your time. It will benefit those in need and make you feel good too.

This morning I called the number back and, as you said it was the Alzheimer's Assn.., I  asked to have my number removed from their list.  The woman said she would do so.

I get some calls that show only the number, others that show only Alzheimers.   The telemarketers have figured out that some folks will respond to one and some to the other, and program accordingly.

Call came in on Sunday, November 11.  Answered this call and a person answered claiming they are the Alzheimer's Association.  I have contacted the Alzheimer's Assocation and the Alzheimer's Foundation, both organizations said these non-stop calls are not from them.  This is a SCAM.  Other numbers connected with this SCAM:

I also received a call from this number...the latest in a string claiming to represent "alzheimers."  I have a panasonic phone (land line) that lets me block up to 30 #s...when that's not enough to get rid of some organization I go to their Facebook page and write my complaint on their wall. If the calls really are from them, that works!  I've gotten rid of 2 political organizations and a charity that way.

If the calls are from scammers, you'll find that out for certain. Unfortunately a call blocker on your phone is the only cure for them 'cuz scammers use fake caller IDs, making the "do not call" list useless...so don't waste your time reporting 'em.

I have been called by this number. I am not answering unidentifiable phone numbers. I am not answering "Private" identified numbers either.

Amerigroup Loans for Veterans call us every day.  It is a different person every day and a different number.  When you tell them no thanks they keep calling.  You tell them you dont want to talk and you dont want them to call.  They disregard and call you every day even after you tell them you are not interested and ask them not to call.

Stand your ground! From now on, I'm starting a "Do Not Donate" (DND) list! Any organization that I donated to in the past will be removed my charitable giving list. I'll give food to the local pantry instead. They NEVER call us asking for more food or cash gifts and it's deductible as a  501C!

The best organization to donate to are the ones that don't use contract solicitors. Some organizations only get as little as10% of what the contractors collect and that's a rip off!

We appreciate helping this organization but do not appreciate the calls coming in over and over again. EVERYBODY we've donated to pulls the same stunt and we have had enough. If this is their way of turning us off, they're doing a fantastic job! They send us a solicitation in the mail once a month and call us at least six times a month. How much of our donations are being used to pester donors for more funds?

As long as we have a wired phone line, the calls from those who are exempt from the DNC list will continue.Charitable organizations and politicians need to lose this exemption. Most of us just don't want the phone ringing all day and evening when we're busy or trying to sleep. Why can't a simple STOP or NO be understood?

For the record.... I have NEVER made a purchase from a phone solicitor in the 45 years I've had a phone line of my own. Doesn't that register with these people?

I got called from this number at least 6 times in the last two weeks and thanks to the information above I have called the public relations number to complain and reguest removal from their list.  Thanks to those of you who have taken the time to research and respond in this forum.  LLG

Calls at all hours, myriad times a day.  Never leaves a message.  I did not want to get caller ID.  Calls like this forced me into it.  The stress level in my life has gone way done because of Caller ID.

No message and no one said anything when i did answer. They aren't going to get much moneyif they don't talk.

Thanks to your posts, I just called and asked to be taken off of their list. They said OK but informed me that the national "do not call" list doesn't include non-profits. We, too, donated to the Alz. Assoc. after my M-I-L died of it in '09. I told the telemarketer this and said we would NEVER donate to the Alz. Assoc. again and that she might want her bosses to know that!!

I emailed info@alz.org today and got a response within an hour. They told me to send my name, address, and phone # and they would take me off the list.  Since they already have my address (they send me stuff just about every week anyway), I did that.

This is what the email said:
If you would like for the telephone calls to stop, you can answer the call, wait for a live agent to come on the line (the wait should be 5 seconds or less), and tell them directly that you do not want to be contacted by phone. They can immediately remove your phone number from the system. If you are unable to answer one of our calls, please call the Alzheimer?s Association?s 24-hour helpline and provide your name, address and phone number so that we can find you in the system and get you removed from the calling list. Should you prefer to do this over email, send your contact information to info@alz.org .

I pointed out that I emailed them originally at info@alz.org and included my telephone number, and they said they needed my address too. I don't know what kind of database they have, but I don't mind them sending me junk mail as opposed to phoning me.

I receive calls from 877-224-5803 late at night and on weekend afternoons.  When I answer the telephone, there is total silence for about 10 seconds and then I hear a "click" and the call is disconnected.  I think the person and/or organization that is calling from 877-224-5803 is operating a scam.  It's too bad those people can not be located, identified, arrested and thrown in the slammer.

I will never give another dime to anyone that calls on the phone. I do not appreciate being harrassed by telephone calls pretending to be helping an association that I donated to. It makes me sick how the money never gets to where it is needed!
