I called Chase and ask about this number, they told me it was not one of their customer services numbers. It is fraud. Be very careful with this type of messages, do NOT call.

Received text message on my t-mobile phone on May 24, 2:46PM Central.
"CHASE. Please call us immediately at 1-877-228-7944 regarding recent restriction placed on your account. Thank you."
Automated response asking for your card number, card expiration date and PIN. This is definitely a scam.

Same as everyone else says this is definitely a phishing scam. I suggest calling the number from a payphone and entering 0-0-0 at the prompts. The payphone provider will bill the 877 number for placing the call and at least you'll get some satisfaction by causing a little bit of annoyance.

Yeah I got the same text message. It is a scam. I called the Chase customer service # that I know and they told me this in not one of their #'s. It says welcome to Chase when answering. I called the next day and it says welcome to Citi Cards.
Julien 2009-05-26 19:52:45 Unknown
Same here, I don't even have account with Citi card.

I got a text message from Chase saying that I have not confirmed my phone number for MYCHASE. It asks me to call 877-228-7944. So I did. There's an automated system asking me to activate my card (eh?? I thought it asked me to confirm my phone number?). I entered my card digits that spells out (F U A S S H O L E) and my password as well. This is PHISHING scam!!! Watch out y'all.

I just rec'd a call from message center !chase.com at 4:42 pm. I never give my cell phone # to companies etc. I would like to know how they got a cell # and connected me with Chase. The message read to call Chase immediately at 1-877-228-7944 reg. recent restriction place on my account. I figured it to be a scam.

Received the same kind of text message yesterday from the same number regarding a Chase credit card (don't have one but do have a Chase account).
I called out of curiosity and got an automated message that asked for my account number. I immediately hung up.
My wife called the same number from her cell phone and got the same message.
DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT YOUR CREDIT CARD OR PERSONAL INFO OVER THE PHONE.

Same here. I do not have a Chase card, yet they sent the text message alerting me that there were "restrictions" placed on my account. I dialed the number out of curiosity and couldn't get through ... a busy circuit tone, I think.
Nevertheless, it appears that the above are correct and that it is a scam. Surely Chase will chase them down?

I just received this text from CITI Cards, which I don't have one. It was asking me to confirm my phone number for MYCITI by calling 877-228-7944. I received a message yesterday morning for CITI Cards stating the restriction being set up 877-284-0654 (from 3649). I do not have a CITI card, so I wasn't sure why I received these. When you hit zero which normally allows you to go to an operator, it keeps asking for your card number, exp date, and/or pin.

I also received the same text message today May 24, 2009, 14:47 from message.center@chase.com / CHASE
It is a scam. I even don't have a Chase account!

We received this same text message, called Chase and they confirmed that it is a phishing (sp?) scam targeting Chase and Washington Mutual customers. Do not provide your info!

I just received the same text message today, on Sunday of all days. I do not have a chase acct, so I know it is a scam.
Tony 2009-05-24 23:38:02 Unknown
It is a scam. Just received the same text message, called the CSR and they told me its a scam. The number asked for account number, expiration date and PIN number. The same text message received by Washington Mutual account holder. Beware all!
michelle 2009-05-24 22:51:41 Unknown
I just got thru to the number. It is definitely a scam. It is an automated service. The first thing it will ask you to enter is your card number, next it will ask for your expiration date, and then it will ask for your pin number...a scam for sure! I entered all zero's so I could go thru the process to see what all it asked for.
michelle 2009-05-24 22:47:21 Unknown
I was sure it was a scam. Chase would never send a text message. I knew if I googled the number I would see that others were scammmed as well. The number was busy when I called too.
Patrick 2009-05-24 22:28:50 Unknown
I received this text message as well. It is a scam.
slowdemise 2009-05-24 21:33:29 Unknown
I do have chase account and did recently sign up for text message alert. So when I called the 1877 number in a similar text message, thankfully call didn't go through. Then I called my chase bank and found that they didn't send the message. Definitely a scam .... Who can you trust these days...
cord 2009-05-24 21:22:07 Unknown

Reporter 3923 2009-05-24 20:22:19 Unknown
Just received a text message stating that I should contact Chase regarding recent restrictions placed on my account. This is absolutely fraudulent as I do not have any accounts with Chase. Needless to say, please be wary of calling this number.
Alison 2009-05-24 20:16:07 Unknown
Typo above - msg date 5/24/09
