It was a legitimate call from Amtrak advising me of a change to my upcoming train reservation.

As others have reported, this was an automated customer service call from Amtrak, which inexplicably doesn't list its name on Caller ID.

At first I thought it might be a hoax, but turns out it really was Amtrak.  Though you are probably better off calling 1800USA RAIL and speaking to a customer rep.

The call is legitimate from Amtrak to tell us a train we had a reservation for was being delayed. We also received an email. By calling the 1-877 customer service number in the email, the rep was able to change us to a new train. Excellent service from AMTRAK.

As others have said, this was Amtrak. I let it go to voicemail for two reasons: (a) Didn't know the number and my iPhone's caller ID didn't show a name; (b) More importantly, I'm at the library and so I didn't want to talk on the phone. So I sent it to voicemail and then looked up the number here. The call was legitimate. My wife and I have an Amtrak reservation on the Auto Train later this year and the call was a recorded message to advise me that smoking will be prohibited on the Auto Train starting June 1 (it's currently allowed on the lower level in the lounge car). I already knew about this policy change and so that's how I know the call was legitimate. It doesn't affect me because we don't smoke, but I thought it was a nice gesture by Amtrak's customer service to call customers about that sort of thing.....even if the call is way premature when they call on March 28 for a train reservation at Thanksgiving!

Nice to know customer service isn't totally dead. The call was a robocall using a recorded voice, but that's perfectly sensible in my view given the purpose of the call.

So this number will not be included in the "Spam Caller" entry on my iPhone's contact list ("Spam Caller" has a silent ringtone assigned and I add any and all junk callers who don't leave messages into that particular contact).

This number is not a scam. They called to advise me a reservation I previously made & paid was being canceled due to track work. I was skeptical, so while talking with the operator, I made a trip to Amtrak's web site & attempted to rebook the same itinerary. The result came back with a status for the train: "Unavailable" (which is different than "Sold Out").

Got an alternative arranged & no surprises when I would've arrived @ the station.

Amtrak with a service alert about a train I was scheduled to take. They also emailed. It was just an update on the location of the boarding facility, nothing that required changes to plans.

It was Amtrak calling to tell me to get dropped off at the station because of potential lack of parking due to the baseball game. Thoughtful of them.

Had a missed call, not sure yet if they left a voicemail (I have no service in my office) but the timing would suggest that it was Amtrak as I got an email a few moments later about a change in my reservations.

This is the first time I've searched a # on 800notes.com and had it be REAL -- Amtrak calling to give me a heads-up about a schedule change. Thank you, 800notes.com and thank you, Amtrak!

This isn't a scam. It's actually amtrak's schedule change office. I just called, and they have details about my ticketing that only amtrak would have.

This "Amtrak" number is a scam. Don't call it! If you notice the e-mail that sent it to you, you would notice it is NOT the official amtrak e-mail.

It's Amtrak letting me know the train schedule was cackled and to call to reschedule.  Why hasn't the airline industry come up with this simple proactive courtesy?
