I too filed a complaint with the FTC...If there is a debt out there that I somehow missed, I will gladly take action to resolve but coming on strong and threatening is not going to make me want to cooperate.

No they cannot do that.  What they are doing is illegal.  I've already filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and will be in contact with the New York Attorney General's Office.  Their tactics are illegal.

The queen of the sandbox also called my cell to say I've been officially notified...Something about a complaint filed her office, one and only chance to clear this up, blah blah blah....then the @$%&* called and left a message for my mananger saying she doesn't want to cause a scene but needs to know the company protocol when serving an employee and said other things about me.

Can they do that? Just make me look bad, letting them know they want to come to my work but want to prevent causing a scene? They left a reference number but they do not state where they are from.

I looked them up, the number 877-243-2109 is Watson Group

Chris, that is the M.O. of scam debt collectors. They try to make you think you have "bad checks" out there because a bad check can be considered a criminal offense, whereas a past due debt (such as a payday loan) is only a civil matter. This way they can lead you to believe that you are going to be arrested and jailed. This is not the case.
I just googled "Watson Group" and nothing comes up except for a marketing consultant in Texas that goes by that name. I would venture to say that more often than not, that is an indication of their legality. Most legit collection agencies have websites and/or can be easily found by doing a search, such as Google.
These people more than likely stole or bought your information off a website illegally. Try to think of anywhere on the internet that you might have entered your personal info and that is more than likely where they got it. I find it quite disheartening that one of the most important inventions of our lifetime, the internet, has to be used as a tool for criminals and scam artists (one and the same, really!). But, at least one can find out what these calls are about with that same tool. In the event they call again; I would suggest to you to read the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA). With this, you will be able to spot the inconsistencies of the statements these people make in an effort to rob you. When you speak to them, just counter their statements with the "rule" that applies to what they are saying. This will let them know you know what you are talking about and sometimes will cause them to go off their script and get confused. Believe me, it works more often than not! They are trolling for uninformed people that will fall for their tricks. If you prove to them you won't fall for them; they will go away. They basically need a willing and easy target. Let them know that is not you! Go to the following link and read the basics of the FDCPA:

Go a call on the 4th from this place myself. Said they were Watson Group and had several bad check complaints against me. Problem is I only write checks to my daycare and family. Everything else is debit card or EFT.

Said I have several charges pending against me. They said their name was the usc firm. Some research reveals they are actually named the watson group or watson financial out of ny. Just some debt collector making bogus claims. Ignore them.
