A woman left a voice message to say she is calling from Con Edison regarding our account.  We don't have an account with them. I called back and got a recording that said "a representative is not available at this time please leave a message after the beep."

Debt Collector
For the past 6 months or so, I have received many calls from many different numbers based on the caller ID here at work.  I just figured out in the last two weeks that this is from the same company that fakes the incoming numbers and calls several times a day with a robot automated calling system where you never get to talk to a real person.  I have been writing down the numbers.  Up until today, the messages have all said to call this number:  877-251-3771, which is only 4 numbers away from 877-251-3775.  Today, finally a real person called my work and I was able to drag some information out of them.  Up until today, I thought this was over an old Cingular/AT&T bill that I had forgot about from 10 years ago.  Now, this real person states that they represent AEP.  (American Electric Power) and are attempting to collect a debt from two years ago.  Now, this strikes me funny because I currently have AEP at my new place and I have never received a past due notice in the mail and usually by now AEP would tie an old bill to your new address and send a disconnect at the current address.  I told the lady to send me the bill in the mail and I will pay it.  They wanted an electronic check or credit card today.  I have never received a bill in the mail from Source RM or AEP for that address two years ago.  The lady got belligerent and was going to hang up on me.  She said they already sent letters and will not send another one.  She said to contact her.  I caught her attention before she tried to hang up and I said, lady, I don't have your number.  She gave me 877-251-3775 and said her name is Melody at extension 4912.  I asked her the name of her company and she said Source Receivables Management and then later she said Source RM.  I asked her what is the account number of the AEP bill in question.  She actually gave it to me.  I told her that if I verify with AEP that I do owe an old bill, then I will pay it by the end of the month through AEP.  Now the problem I have with these people is that for 6 months maybe more they have used fake incoming numbers with robotic calls to call me at work several times a day without a real person to talk to on the other end of the phone at this small company where everybody knows your business making them think that I don't pay any of my bills since the calls come from many different numbers.  To beat it all, they offer to settle for half of the money they say I owe.  If this is a real debt, then why didn't I ever receive a bill because the lady quoted my exact address back to me.  The damage this has caused my reputation at work is worth much more to me than this small bill.  If I would have known about this bill, then I would have paid it.  So all of you perfect people out there that want to judge people, I will pray for you.  Thanks and GOD BLESS.

You are either a moron or a shill.  Probably both.  Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would never give their social security number over the phone to someone who calls them.  That is NOT the proper way to validate a debt.  It is incumbent on the company who is calling to provide validation of the debt by mailing a letter to the address they have on file.  Anybody receiving such calls should not give ANY information over the phone.

One more thing...first you say that you got these calls because you were the victim of ID theft (not, therefore, because you owed any money) but then you tell people to pay your bills and you won't get such calls.  So which is it, idiot?  If you didn't owe any money then why did you get the calls?  Oh wait, you're one of the scammers making these calls.

Thanks for playing, but it's time for you to get back to the boiler room now.

Gosh,  I don't think so Angela.  I'll bet you're their top PR man.  There is just something about someone like you calling me incessantly that would piss me off.   Whether I owed anything or not  ,I would choose to ignore.      It's not the collections, but people like you that offend me.

So if u think u don't owe anything why don't u give them a chance to identify if this is under your social number ... I was a victim of ID theft & I would have never known about it if these people had not called me! Don't ever ignore the call. Either you are the person they need or not but if u don't find out, they won't know either. Stop looking at collections as a bad thing... Pay your bills & don't bite off more than u can chew, then u will never have to worry with the calls.. Stop hiding & resolve it!!!!

First off for those that say we are just trying to get out of paying our bills is WRONG!! I got a call from this number that said I owed a bill from 7 years ago that I have never even had! And no, I am not trying to get away with not paying my bills. When I told them that I wanted some more information to confirm that I actually owed this bill they hung up on me! We are all just being smart and not sending money to just anybody that says we owe, especially when we know we don't owe it!

The same guy just called again. Asked for the same woman again. I told him they have called a few times already and we don't know her and they need to stop threatening to sue people on my voicemail. He said "I have only talked to you once and we didn't threaten to sue anyone" and hung up. Our phone company doesn't offer call blocking so I guess we have to listen to this crap every day.

Oh wow, got in touch with someone named James Dawson who first started by stating that there was no voicemail left saying they were filing legal action against her and when I told him that I saved the message he said "well, she has felony warrants out for her, so we are trying to find her". Seriously, is there someone I can call and report this? This woman is getting verbally bashed to strangers on the phone.

This number calls and leaves a message for someone I have never heard of (I have had this phone number for 14 years and never received a call for this person, so I doubt it's the old owner of the number). Today they left a message threatening legal action against her. I'm sure that's 12 different kinds of illegal to leave that on a voicemail, but since I am not the person they are calling for I don't know if I can even do anything about it.

I got a call from them re a Tmobile bill my son owed in my name.  They said they would take half of the amount and settle it.  I gave them my debit card number to take the amount from on specific date. Should I talk to the bank and have them hold the money? They said it would ruin my credit if I did not pay it.  Are they scamming me?

Most of you guys had years to pay by mail but through your own procrastination or lack of discipline, the collection agencies attempt to get you to pay by check or credit card over the phone.  You have only yourself to blame for not having other options.

It is time to welcome you into the 21st century.  Anytime that you call any financial institution, your phone number and the name associated with that phone number will appear on their computer.  If you have a problem with that, most companies in America are rogues.  I googled them as well and there are people blogging that say they are fraud but they have a website.  I guess anyone that calls you about a bill that you owe must be a fraud.  Sad.

I hear the incessant chatter on talk radio about everyone thinking that Obama is moving us to a "socialist" type of government.  Some of you people on here deserve that.  Seemingly you are incapable or maybe you are just too lazy to resolve these issues by yourself.  You want to clog up the bureaucratic agencies and governmental bodies with a lot of frivilous complaints and lawsuits.  In this last post, you stated that "I could not shake off the impression that he might have approved the illegal tactics being used."  Impressions mean nothing.  Perhaps you were so jaded by your own emotions that you were incapable of receiving any information.  It seems that everyone on this board is seeking an "easy payday" or "easy money".  Why don't some of you try spending as much time working as you do blogging and you would have plenty of money so therefore you would not have debt collectors calling you?  There are real people out here that have real needs.  Let the government handle those things...not frivilous complaints and lawsuits from litigious consumers.

I hate to "rain on your parade" but if it is a corporate debt, the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act does not apply on business debts.  Based on that, you would probably not have any success in reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission.  The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act only applies to consumers.

It is Source Receivables Management.  A guy who identified himself as AJ demanded me to pay the money I never owed.  He was very rude and unethical.  He even hung up on me after making a demand repeatedly to pay the money and move on.  He seemed to determine to collect the debt from me because simply I have the same business name as the original debtor.  When I called the number back to get a hold of someone who has some senses, he hung up on me every time.  Finally, when I had my employee to call the number, a supervisor was put on the phone by another rude person working in the agency.  The supervisor also didn't identify his name or the name of collection agency he is working for.  Although he seems to be reasonable and took the correct information from me, I could not shake off the impression that he might have approved the illegal tactics being used.  A few days later, a letter from Source Receivables Management was mailed to me.  It says that I owe some money to his client which is T-Mobil, and they would assume the debt is valid unless I dispute the validity of the debt.  So I researched and found out they broke at least the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA).  I reported them to Federal Trade Commission.  Now I am seeking to file a complaint in a federal court.

If people would just pay their bills, they would not have to google these phone numbers to find out who they belong to.  It is amazing how much effort people will go to avoid paying a debt.  It is no wonder that our economy is in the condition that it is in.

Just received a nasty phone call from an AJ at Source Receivables Management.  He claims I owe a debt from 9 years ago. Yet when I asked him to send me some paperwork on what I owe, he refused.  Claims that they sent enough paperwork to my old address and I should go there and pick it up.  Then kept on saying that I was refusing to pay when all I was asking for documentation of what I owe.  Every time I asked he would interrupt me by saying " I see we are getting no where and you are refusing to pay your bills on time "  I told him his manner was very unprofessional and his answer was " Just because you don't like what I'm saying doesn't mean I'm being unprofessional".
They won't send documentation because this company is a Fraud and those people are scam artists.  They want you to pay on the phone and just freely give them your personal information.

I agree- I called them back and they really hated it. They acted as if they have a right to dial my personal cell phone number but I have no right to dial their debt collection agency number. Call them several times I'm sure they will hang up on you because thats what they did to me. I got rude right back with them then finally called and asked for a supervisor who was just as rude as his employees. He said that they can't tell people they are a debt collector because they can be sued for giving out private information. (Because if a debt colloctor is calling then you know that person is in debt) Yet he told me they are a debt colloctor so thats just as the same weather it comes from his mouth or his employees. Likewise when they call me they dont give names they are looking for. They ask me my first name and if it's not the first name they are wanting they just hang up. Till the next looser decides to call and do the same thing. The supervisor said they have access to cell phones and landlines and often times if you have the same last name as the person they are looking for and live in the same area as them, they will call you. His line of thinking was that they are probably related and after they get so many annoying phone calls they will give the number up to their relative that they are looking to contact just so they will be left alone. When they ask for a better number to contact the person give them their own phone number and hang up.

I had 16 phone calls just today from this number. No voice mail was left or anything. So when I had a chance I called back and got hung up on. I called back again and explained that I had several missed phone calls from them and I was returning the call. The lady asked me what my first name is. I said "Lisa" at that point she hung up on me. So after I got another missed call from them I called back and had a man tell me they are looking for Betty not Lisa and hung up. They called me again and I asked what was going on because they keep calling me and when I answer or call back they hang up on me. The guy "Don't worry about why we hang up on you. I dont have to tell you anything" and hung up on me again. They called me again (the same person) so I hung up on them and called back a few moments later and got a different person who answered which actually was the first person to state of the company name but said it too quickly. I asked to speak with a supervisor, the supervisor gets on the phone and explains they are a collection agency and he instructs his team to hang up on people who ask whos number this is, or what they are calling for or anything along those lines. He tells me they are looking for a Norma. I told him well they only said who they was looking for once and that was a Betty. I told them my name is Lisa yet they keep calling back all in the same day. So if they are just going to hang up they can stop calling my number. I told him the next time anyone from his company dials my number again I will file a lawsuit. at that point he said he removed my cell phone number from their computer so it wont happen again and then he hung up.
