Just because they had your number and you think you are calling a correct number...phone calls can be intercepted. If they as for you SS# do not give it to them...they should already have it. They an confirm who you are by you address and other information.

I got one of these calls too: when I investigated further they told me I owed them owe $8000.00 for 2008...I was not living in NC anytime in 2008...and in checking with the IRS they said they did not report to NC Department of Revenue that I earned $61,000.00 because I had not...this is definitely a scam! I immediately signed up with Lifelock and am securing my information.

If any Department of Revenue from any state or any IRS office needs something, they will communicate with you via registered mail.  It can be a very big mistake to deal with matters relating to DOR or IRS over the phone or internet.  If the matter is of such low priority that they are calling by phone or sending emails, then forget about it.

I can also confirm that this number is the North Carolina Dept. of Revenue.  I was getting voicemails to call (877) 252-1152.  Fearing fraud, I called the number on the NC DOR's website just to make sure I wasn't being scammed.  They confirmed to me that it was them calling, and that they were calling because I had forgotten to submit one of my sales & use returns for my business.  If you wish to be cautious, call their published number as I did, and as is mentioned above.

A recorded voice from 252-467-9095 indicated that I needed to call the NC Revenue at 877/252-1152.
I proceeded to call and the person who answered the phone said I have reached the NC Revenue. They however needed me to verify my social security # and mailing address. I refused because I did not believe (for security purposes) that the government would require for mr to verify my full ss#.
I believe this is FRAUD

I called the main number and it is the NC DOR.

We received a voice mailtonight from 252-467-9095 stating they were the NC Dept of Revenue and to call back at 877-252-1152 and to reference our social security number when we called.  BAD IDEA.  NO ONE GET OUR SS# OVER THE PHONE.  We are going to call the toll free number on the internet tomorrow to see if this is a scam.  We'll let you know.

I received 2 calls from this number 1877 252-1152 when I called back the first time the person on the other line wanted me to give her my social security number to verify that it was me calling, when I refused to give her my number she then asked for the telephone number that they called and that this was good enough. Because I don't use the number often I honestly did not remember it so I told her I would look for it and call her right back. When I called back I got another employee and she insisted that I give her my social # because the telephone number was not enough, I told her no way, I was not comfortable. She said that I could visit my local office in person and find out why they tried to contact me. That is what I am going to do because the number 1877 252-1152 is not listed anywhere on the Dept Of Rev website.

I was given this # from someone who called from NCSG ITS 252 467 9994 i ASK FOR INFO AND SHE STATED THAT IT WAS THE INTERNAL REVENUR AND THEY WANTED IFO CONCERNING MY FAX ACCOUNT NOW, I DO NOT HAVE A FAX OR AND ACCOUNT FOR ONE, I ASK FOR THE PERSON NAME THAT WAS CALLING SHE GAVE ME TIFFANY AND SAID ICOULD CALL BACK AND SPEAK TO ANY ONE OF THE REPS

same as the others, recorded caller voice identifying themselves as NC Department of Revenue, stating that they needed to speak to someone at this number to verify reported information, then an extended series of "our normal office hours are between such & such time Monday, such & such time Tuesday, etc etc

Have gotten the same message nightly for three weeks, from 1(877) 252-1152. Wife looked it up on ClarkHoward.com and it's bullsh*t. I even called the number one time after hours, and the voicemail says "You've reached the NC Dept. of Revenue. Our office hours are M-F 8am-5pm", then arbitrarily hangs up. You know any state organization is gonna have more than that. Anyone got info on how to get them on the Do-Not-Call registry?

Might be "Unishippers". This needs a confirmation. Did anyone call this number back?
