DFC Legal Services...Daniel ext. 114. Very polite, very smooth, but asked me if I knew the person he was trying to reach. I said yes, but provided no further information. He said it was urgent that she call him back because a decision would be made today. He called me on my cell phone! How did he get that #? I'm glad I read the info from Elspeth too, because there really is no way to know for sure that someone is legitmate, just over the phone. I will pass the information on, but not encourage the person to call back. There are too many scammers out there! I never answer 800 #'s on my landline and I shouldn't have on my cellphone. Lesson learned.

Looks like this is a scam operation.  Your callers are hoping to embarrass you into paying either a bogus debt, debt that has already been paid off, or even debt that is owed - but not to the callers.  Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any callers who refuse to mail - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof your callers have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial contact with you is a violation of federal law, and per federal law - the FDCPA - you should not pay them.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
 If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Got a call from this # from a Ms. Olivas and she asked for my brother in law. She wouldn't tell me what it was in regards to. She just asked to have him call her back at ext 106. Then she called my house like 5 mins later and I flipped out on her. I don't think she'll call me back anymore.

Just received a voicemail call from a "Daniel" from DFC Legal Services.
He did not ask for me in particular but said I needed to call back immediately.  He gave me the number 877-260-1202 ext. 2114 and also gave me a reference number. Immediately I was on the alert and looked up the phone number which lead me to a lot of similar complaints.  I can only assume they will try to get all your information, down to social security and credit card # then use it against you.

I got a call on my home phone.  When I did not answer, they immediately called my cell phone.  I want to know how in the heck they got both my numbers, connected to each other.   ???   This is getting really bad.  I get calls every day from the same numbers.  There are multiple numbers, but I know they are connected, because, after the first call fails, another call comes in from different number, but they are always the same group of numbers.    So much for Do Not Call Lists.    Grrrrrr

Scam.  If you had "legal action" against you, you'd receive notification either via court process server or certified or registered mail - you wouldn't hear about it via phone call.

Got a call that went like this (if not the exact words, it was very darn close, because I tried to write it word for word): "This is Miss Pace with DFC Legal Services.  I need a phone call back at 877-260-1202, extension 106, using reference number 285[*** not completed for privacy].  Thank you.  Bye bye."

Internet search results:
* Google Maps: DFC does not show up anywhere on Earth.
* https://www.chamberofcommerce.com/detroit-mi/29256062-d-f-c-legal-services
 ^ This website shows a D F C Legal Services at 421 Madison St., Detroit MI.  Google StreetView shows this to be a courthouse.
* Another website showed a DFC, classified as legal services, at 1707 E 43rd St., Davenport IA.  Google Streetview shows this to be a house.

I live in Arizona, so I don't know why these people would be calling me.
