Dear Me, you are an idiot, you are obviously working for Westwood Mediation. I am pretty sure you work in a call center with over 100 people trying to collect on debts that either didnt exsist or are more then 10 years old. You are also probably a high school drop out with a very low IQ and the only reason you work there is because they do not perform background checks or drug tests. Do us all a favor and take your non educated,no moral low life butt off of this website and leave room for the people who actually want to help

Debt Collector
A postscript to my last posting:
I forgot to tell you: Keep a little notebook where you can grab it quick, ALWAYS write down the name of the agency dunning you + notes on what they said to you; always ask the name of the person calling you, record that plus the date & time. Even if you are tape-recording the conversation, you should still keep a written record of all the calls they make to you. Don't get into shouting matches with them, don't swear at them, just stand up tall & protect your FDCPA rights. DO NOT ADMIT TO ANY DEBT, no matter how accurate you think it may be or if it startles you because they dug up a very old debt you'd long forgotten about. IF YOU ADMIT TO A DEBT, you've hosed yourself & equipped them with what they need to take action against you. Best course of action for anyone being harassed by a collection agency: learn your FDCPA rights, your individual state's Zombie Debt Law, record conversations and keep meticulous notes. If harassment continues, file a complaint against them with the FCC ( Google it, you'll see the website) plus your state's Attorney General's Office, Consumer Affairs dept. ALWAYS come here and enter their number when they called you. It really will help, just takes some time. I would also recommend Googling the agency's name, that will give you alot of info on them to use to defend yourself. If you're not sure of yourself, DON'T talk to them, you may end up doing yourself some harm. You do have the legal right to say this to them, though, and then HANG UP: "According to the FDCPA you must provide written verification of this ALLEGED debt; and according to the FDCPA you must cease & desist calling me until this debt has been properly verified in writing according to FDCPA provisions. " Don't allow yourself to be goaded into saying even one more word after that, just say it & hang up, don't answer if they call back & keep a record of all their calls. Okay, now I can stop worrying that I didn't tell you something you needed to know ! :)

Debt Collector
Just got 2 calls from #877-809-2689, which is another ph number for "WestWood Mediation". I legally repaired my credit 4 years ago, got a mortgage & credit cards and have been a sterling citizen, haven't had to look back, except for the occasional pond scum trying to collect on Zombie Debt, debt that has expired the statute of limitations, which is different in every state. ( You should look yours up ! Just Google "Zombie Debt laws" and put in your state ; you may be being dunned for a debt you no longer have ANY legal obligation to pay) Anyway, the very full-of-herself woman proceeded to tell me I was being "investigated" for a matter that was time-sensitive & that I needed to discuss this with them. I keep a small voice-activated tape recorder ($28.00 at Radio Shack) plugged in , in my spare bedroom, and I tape conversations like these; the state I live in is a 1-party consent state, which means I need only my own permission to tape a caller. There are only 6 states, I think, that have this provision, you should check & see if your state is one of them; it is VERY unlikely a shady operation will spend the $$$ to take action against you for recording a conversation, however, so I'd suggest you do it anyway, just know that you can't use it as evidence against them unless you live in one of those 6 states. Knowing you are taping them REALLY shakes up shady collection agencies, will make them leave you alone. I said to her "So you keep saying the word "legal"---are you implying that you are a legally authority, such as a court or a lawyer's office?" ( this is a Federal crime, representing themselves as ANY legal authority) and she said no, but that I needed to make arrangements with them & verify the last 4 numbers of my SSN, which I refused to do, stating I was in no way legally obligated to disclose sensitive data to complete strangers regardless of their claims. She transferred me to another woman, higher up the food chain, I suppose, who demanded to know my SSN, which I again refused to verify. I also told her they had a VERY bad reputation online and had many FDCPA violations, that I was taping the conversation and would continue to tape any further calls, which unless they wanted actual legal difficulties, they'd cease & desist. She hung up on me, I called back; they refused to answer my call & let voicemail pick it up, which I used to leave a more detailed message, instructing them to immediately provide verification of any ALLEGED ( <--you must use this word when talking to collection agencies, or else you are passively admitting to a debt!) debt & instructing them that they may NOT re-age any alleged debt ( means they start the clock over again on expired debt) nor may they continue to dun me until they provided the FDCPA legally-mandated debt verification by mail. Please---take time to learn your rights, which the Federal government protects ! YOU DO HAVE RIGHTS, it's just up to you to learn them and then ENFORCE them ! When shady operations like Westwood see that you do know your rights and are enforcing them, it turns the table 180 degrees; believe me, it stops them cold. Hoping you will take the time to know how to protect yourself. Meanwhile every time they call you, come here to this board & report the call plus the ph number they called you from; it is a federal violation when debt collectors use a telephone to harass you OR violate your FDCPA rights, becomes an FCC issue; after enough complaints against one ph number, the government takes over, which is exactly WHY shady collection outfits use different phone numbers & change numbers so often. When you can take the offensive with illegal collection agencies, it levels out the playing field and shuts them down; $millions$ have been collected by people who've been harrassed by them, but you must follow the rules & know the law. Hope my post helps you, wishing you good luck in protecting yourself from these unscrupulous predators~

This is a collection agency.  They cannot have you arrested for owing money.  They buy old debts and begin hounding and threatening you.  They call your employers, try to get information so they can have you "served" - but don't say served with what.  Having an old payday loan is not bank fraud.  It IS a bank returned item if there are no funds in the account when they try to take the payment.  They will NEVER stop calling unless you get an attorney involved.  EVER.  Do NOT give them any information.  They will try every tactic in the book to scare you into giving them money.
This is crazy!

Probably a fake name "David Allen" left voice message on my home phone. Trying to contact 2 family members. When I respond to the number of 312-784-4890 and used the case#. Supposedly David Allen asked for a different family member. He claimed to be a collector for Westwood Mediation. The debt he is supposedly attempting to collect was $67.50. What I found questionable was this amount was allegedly over 4 yrs old- that didin't add up. Most companies in this day and time will attach interest charges on balances that old. Other things said, didnot sound legit. When I asked him where he was calling from, he said  the Atlanta,Ga. area. After the conversation, I goggled the phone# and it is a landline in Chicago, Ill. I forwarded this information to the family member in question and suggested to him the way to handle the matter. He will in turn forward all the information that I gave him to the State's Attorney General office for investigation.

Defintily a group of illigimate scam artists. Anytime I get a phone message/call from these types, I take down the phone #s and names, and I report them to my State consumer protection board of PA Attorney General office. They further investigate the names and #s and then thats usually it. I do not fall for this cheap harassment!!!

It wasn't this phone number but it was this company that called.   The return number they left was 888-958-3653.  I googled that number and it came up with a bunch of Chinese websites.   That's the first red flag.    They also said the message was "intended": for ------------------ and that there was an outstanding debt and she had 48 hours to call back.      This call was to my elderly mother that just got out of the hospital and has absolutely no outstanding debts what so ever.     The lady said her name was Sherice Jones from Westwood Mediations, to call 888 958 3653 extension 622 within 48 hours.

When you call the number back, there is nothing.  Nothing at all.    These are bogus claims by bogus people that are praying on the public.    FIGHT BACK!!!

They can not do any of these things. What they are doing is imoral and also illegal. If you have the ability to record the call do so and report the call to the authorities. be sure to get as much info as possible from the caller. These people prey on people not knowing the  laws.

They have tried calling a personal reference and threatened to take her home and car for something they said she cosigned on.  If you list someone as a personal reference, that does not make them a cosigner on the account.  They also threatened to suspend my license and issue a warrant.  Who the heck are these people?

These people have called me with 5 different numbers, I had a gal pal of mine call them and say she was my lawyer she tried to ask them for their address so that she could serve them with a do not contact order, they kept giving her the run around saying the office was closed and they couldnt get the address but they would stop calling. I just got a call from them right now from a 509 number, these people are never going to stop, I have filed a complaint and continue to block their numbers from my phone :(

Its simple.  Everything they have told you is a lie.  There was no theft.  There is no warrent.  They are trying to trick you into paying a debt you don't owe.

Stop answering their calls.  If you answer by accident (or don't have caller ID) hang up as soon as you know its them.

Tell your boss what's happening.  Also tell the HR department and whoever answers your calls.  You may want to print this thread to show them.  Also show them this thread
http://800notes.com/forum/ta-59eb4f862c0cfdc/ ... debt-collecters
and ask them to watch the ABC news report mentioned in that thread.

Great advice posted by an attorney on:
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-732-0174

"IF they do not provide you with the verification of the debt, the debt is invalid and not subject to collection.  PAY NOTHING TO ANYBODY UNLESS THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH WRITTEN VERIFICATION OF THE DEBT, AND ONLY THEN IF YOU FEEL THE DEBT IS VALID - otherwise, let them sue you for the debt, as a real law firm will only bring a legal action on a truly valid debt".

Go here to obtain the template for the DV letter and read more on your consumer rights under the FDCPA:  http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/

They contacted me about a bad check from 2008 with Washington Mutual ( a bank that doesnt even exist anymore) I never had any bad checks with wamu. They had my ss# and everything. When i tried to explain to the guy that i did not owe the debt he taliked over me and said that he was refering the matter back to his "client" for litigation. And that I may be charged with "theft by deception" Im very confused.

I received a message to call 877-260-7197 with reference number 244247. The message said something about my bank and left a name I couldn't understand. When I called the # back some girl named Tracy answered the phone. She was very rude and hung up on me. I tried to find information on this Westwood Mediation and got no where. So I called Tracy back and asked to speak to her supervisor. She kept giving me the run around then finally gave me another #(308-221-8295) saying I would have to call this # to speak to a supervisor. I called the # and Tracy answers the phone saying she is Candice. I called her Tracy and she proceeded to tell me how rude I was, I fussed her out and she hung up again.
