Not everyone can pay their debts immediately so no ned to insult the less "financially fortunate." Some of us choose to have jobs and try in life, rather than sit on our a***s receiving free healthcare, rent, food, etc...and we get screwed out of money left and right. When you are choosing between groceries and paying a creditor, guess who wins?

First of all, I do pay my bills. However, this number is calling me for bills that my ex owes. I'm not looking to cheat the system but I'll be damned if I pay someone else's. I've explained to them that they are calling the wrong number, I am not related to the debtor and requested they stop calling. They continue to do so. When I asked them why, they said because I'm responsible to give him the message and make him return the call and if they call me enough times I'll do it or pay it so they'll stop. "Either way we get paid."

I think you need to worry about yourself, and stop trying to tell other how to conduct their business. You do not pay bills nor know someones situation. Calling a workplace is not/has not EVER been illegal. It is a violation of the FDCPA to call someone when you know its inconvenient for them. You can make a verbal request for the collector to stop calling your place of employment, and most respectable agencies will do that....but then you run into a guy like me.

I do whatever it takes to get paid. I focus on high dollar cases and i w***e myself out for commissions everyday. It doesnt take much to get people wound up enough to pay attention. Some people call back with the worst attitudes...but...if you want the malarky to stop, the piper has to be paid.

We want to do our job well. there are nice ones, and not so nice ones. How do you want to be treated? Theres always some way to get to each debtor. Dont treat us with contempt. Respect us, and you will be respected. Respect us not, and you are rolling the dice as to whom you are truly dealing with.

You have no obligation to answer the phone just because they call you.  We have a rule in my house. If you can't Identify the number don't answer the phone. And never answer a 1-800, 1-888, or 1-877 number. It works for me.

Actually most are purchased and most are illegal. Do research. That is why they hang up. They also illegally maintain info and I have caught numerous times places trying to collect bills that I had already paid off. I have had money taken from my account and illegal harassment. Also Dr's get caught all the time for over charging and they claim losses and they sell the debt so they can get that money and they get insurance they get there money because if not our Dr's wouldn't be living as high as they do

The best way to deal with 3rd party medical debt collectors is to be civil, if you ask them what company they work for they have to tell you, they cannot tell you which hospital or doctor the debt is through without verifying you are in fact the person the debt is for, usually this is done by date of birth or last 4 digits of your social security number.  In most states they are allowed to discuss the debt with the spouse, after verifying of course. They cannot threaten you with wage garnishment or lawsuits unless they are planning on doing so, which you would be notified on, and in order to pursue legal action you have to be working, own a home, or a few other options and generally the debt owed would need to be substantial.. In most cases anymore insurance does not cover the bills 100%, if you believe it should have then discuss this with the collector or call your insurance company. If you dispute the debt send in writing your reasons for disputing and the company should look into it for you. But if you are just civil with the person calling you generally something can be worked out, If you have no income let them know in most cases a hardship plan can be worked out or most hospitals offer financial assistance programs. Everyone should familiarize themselves with the fair debt collection practices act (fdcpa) which is in place to protect you.

Constantly calls me even though I have repeatedly told them I am not, nor have I heard of the person they are asking for.  If they call again, I will file an FTC complaint.

I have received several phone calls from this number and despite the fact that I have told them REPEATEDLY that I am not Maria, don't know Maria, and never met Maria they continue to call me. The last time I told the person on the phone, politely, that I would be reporting them to the FTC and State Attorney General's Office she shouted "I don't need to hear your threats sir!" and hung up on me. Since I just received another call from them I will be reporting them this time. I have records that show I have received 18 calls from them in the past 7 months. Enough is enough,

Hey Greg... You seem to be very informed on the subject of collection practices. First of all, hit the damn "Caps Lock" button and go read the FDCPA. If you don't understand it, ask for help. Anyone reading this pay attention. You DO NOT have to deal with collection agencies. Send them a certified letter stating you refuse to deal with third party collectors and you'll deal with the original creditor only. If they (the harassers) continue to contact you after you do this, document EVERYTHING and SUE them!!! You can do this yourself through your local small claims court. At up to $1,000 a pop, they'll get the hint eventually.
