This is legit- After all your home address is no secret and can often be found by on google by using your name or phone #. If they called your phone and new your name there is a 98% chance your address is public knowledge. Only 2% of the people in the US successfuly hide their address. This is mearly a marketing tool used by Safeway to determine shopping habits of their customers and to develope marketing campaignes for target audiences.

Just called back the number and an asian lady answered and said they are the call center for Vons & Safeway. She wanted to complete my application, I said no thank you and she said your welcome you can also complete your application within the store.

I believe this is a legit effort on Vons & Safeway to obtain addresses for their customers, This would help aid in their direct mailing efforts by identifying the zipcodes with the most of their customers .

People need to stop freaking out just because someone sounds foreign does not mean they are a scam artist. Majority of Call Center work is outsourced to other countries or usually has a high minority population that works there. Americans are to lazy and wimpy to work these type of jobs. These people are just trying to make a living like you and I.

Give them a break!!!

Lady was very nice, forthcoming, and outright with me. I do not feel this is a scam lady's and gentleman.

Your address goes into a mailing list & you will start receiving tons of junk mail from all kinds of people selling crap : (

Club cards are used for marketing so they can keep track of what people buy.

I guess this is legit. I got a call and did not answer. However, I did fill a safeway app in a hurry at the register and did not provide an address.

I got a call during the day. Didn't know who it was from because I have learned to just let unknown calls go to voicemail, and if they are important someone will leave a msg. Didn't get a msg from them, but from past experiences this # seems to be either a teller-marketer or a scam...

I got the same call from the 520.394.7395 number.  The guy said that he was from Safeway and he needed my address.  I asked if it was a requirement.  He said no, so I told him no.
Do people really give this information out?  We are not dumb.  The crook is dumb.  You would think he would have told me yes it's a requirement that's why I need it or something.
But it does make you wonder how they get your name and number??

I just got a call as well.  Couldn't answer and no voicemail.  I called back and got a recording.  It said thank you for calling the data center.  It said if I was calling back, to give the requested info and my name and number.  I told them in my voicemail no thanks and I would wait for them to call back.  I too filled out a club card app a few weeks back, but I gave all the information right on the app.  Not sure what they want.  If they are legit.

Caller claimed to be from Safeway, and said that they needed to verify my home address. I didn't have time to talk, so I said I would call back, but the caller said there would be no need to do that, which seemed odd.

When I called the number later, the message said I was calling "the data center."

I have not been able to verify that this is actually a Safeway number.

This phone call also claimed to be from "Safeway, the grocery store" (?) and asked to speak with Walt Stevens.  Of course there is no Walt Stevens at my home.  So...then she (it was a woman) hung up when I said there was no Walt Stevens at this number.  Mmmmmmh.

do you guys have warrants and have moved? if so, this is probably the authorities trying to contact you and track you down by means of trickery. I've heard of tricks like this being done before. one town went as far as to calling everybody in the town who had warrants, addressing them by first and last name and telling them that they are invited to some sort of all access VIP party. when the warrant holders arrived at the front table one by one, cops came out of no where and arrested them all.

Lol a scam asking for your address? They already have your first name, last name, telephone number AND you can verify with your discount card number! What will they ever do with an address? You should consider it a scam if they ask for Social security or other important information.  Some of you are just paranoid! Data centers handle tons of data on behalf of different companies and cannot disclose any information unless it is with the correc customer.  They can't answer a call and give you a list of who they handle work for.  Calm down and don't stress over this phone call (;

A cute sounding chick left me a cell voice mail claiming the whole Safeway bit.  It has been reported to the FCC, simply because this kind of s*** irritates me.  Whether you give them your address or not really doesn't matter.  Simply put, If they know your phone number already, finding your address online is as easy as taking a leak!  You would think that Safeway would be investigating this at a corporate level since someone is illegally representing their company, which I guarentee is affecting business.

Just got a call. Figured it was spam, so didn't pick up. However, I do have a Safeway card, and I didn't fill in my address on the application. So that could be it. Ah well, I don't care if Safeway doesn't have my address. Their problem. :-)

The call came from 520-394-7395 which is Nogales, Arizona.  The call back number they left on my voicemail was the 877 number.  It is so an effort by someone to get addresses and probably as much personal info as they can for who knows what....maybe ID theft.  My advice, DO NOT  return the call.

I just got a message referring me to call this number to give my address, and I didn't think it was a scam because I was out of town with a move pending when I signed up for a Safeway Club Card. I put "address pending" on the application and they didn't mind at the time. If someone other than Safeway got hold of my card info, that would be bad, but I have no reason to suspect an outright scam. The girl who left the message sounded slightly foreign but was easy to understand.

I called the number at around 8PM and a recorded voice said "thanks for calling the data center" with no mention of Safeway. The voice requested leaving a message but I didn't. Unclear as of this moment what the "data center" actually is, but from other reading I suspect it's a central service for club cards at various grocery store chains, not just Safeway. I don't think it's an outright scam but I probably won't call back.

I received a message from this number on my voicemail.  I called Safeway back directly at 1-877-723-3929 (the phone number that was on the bottom of my receipt) and they verified that they did call and needed more information to complete my application.  I felt comfortable giving it to them as i had called safeway directly.
