Received a message saying they were from BB&T and I needed to call back regarding fraudulent charges on my account. They gave an 888 number to call back. When I did they asked for my account number or my social security number. I refused and said I would call my local branch. All my accounts were fine. At the end of the message that was left they mentioned BB&T was part of FDIC. Guess they were trying to sound legitimate???
Got a call @ 3:09 pm today and told the caller that the person they were trying to reach was not in. Called the number back and was surprised to find that it was a BB&T phone #. However, this is where it gets wierd, BB&T told me they use no numbers that come up unidentified. White pages.com places this phone call origination somewhere between Luckenwalde and Juterbog, Germany. The initial call to me was not identified and was not from BB&T. If it is not an identifiable phone number, your best bet is to not answer. If you do answer any calls without caller id, do not give personal info up. BB&T was helpful in this matter but are as unclear as to how someone can use their number and not have it appear identified, as I am. Anyone out there know how this is done? The scammers are getting trickier and this, I am hoping, was just a close call (no pun intended)!
Thanks to caller ID, I ignored the call, then googled the number and read the posts. If the number is not familiar and there is no name, just don't answer.......problem solved!!!!!
If there are any questions about this number may I suggest calling your local BB&T branch and have the branch call the number to verify the phone number is from BB&T.
Maybe if enough people call the branches the bank powers that be will change the way the caller ID appears on the phones.
I WORK NIGHTS
STOP CALLING ME! Phone rings. Caller unkown. They never leave a message. I work nights I have a super stressful life. I don't need being awakened by this B.S.!!!!!!!!!!
unknown, unwanted call(s)...no msg left
It would stand to reason that BB&T would have their telecom folks ADD A CID Name to their Customer Service line..... Over 3 years of records of folks ignoring calls b/c there is "Not Provided" on their configurable toll free line..... No sense at all...
I have a BB&T account and own BB&T stock. I've been getting calls from this number at 8:30 AM routinely and I finally called them back. This IS NOT BB&T and has no affiliation with them. I confirmed that through BB&T. When I asked to be taken off their call list, the first thing they asked for was my complete SSN. THIS IS A SCAM FISHING FOR YOUR IDENTITY INFORMATION, DON'T FALL FOR IT.
I got a call from this number and I don't bank at BBT. I'm also on the do not call list.
Still calling even though we are on the national Do Not Call list! Where can I report them?
Got a call from this number and I DO NOT have a bank account with BB&T. SO STOP CALLING ME
just got a call today from 1-877-279-1060. couldnt have been that important or legit because they left no message. with all the technology today, these calls should be traced to the actual caller and where they call from.
I am a BB&T customer. I just had a call, from this number, and the caller did leave a message but her name was very garbled (on purpose maybe?) I do not answer ANY 800 numbers, ever. And I really hate any calls from people I don't know. These people have to be selling something. I know they are not calling for the purposes stated above. And as for asking for office number, what does that prove? They could just make up a number. I think asking for their employee number would be more effective. You could call BB&T and check to see if they are truly employees. As for me, I will just continue to not answer as I am not buying anything, from anyone.

Got a call from this number as well - it is a legitimate number from BB&T - routine follow-up service call. Mar 13 12 - very polite
This is a phishing fraud - not a legitimate bank or financial institution.
You guys need to switch to decaf.
So it sounds like it's BB&T. So what? They became my bank after I got engaged to one of their employees. They are a great bank and I am glad I switched (I was very hesitant at first). So, you don't use BB&T? Did they call your cell number? If so, how long have you had your cell number? Cell companies recycle cell numbers very quickly. Maybe the previous owner used BB&T, and thus they (BB&T) had permission to call your number (doing business with a company overrides the DoNotCall registry).
Folks, it's not as if they are harassing you. I really hate those types of calls too. But based on the posts here, the people who have answered the phone said the callers were courteous and not aggressive.
You know, not everything is a conspiracy.
Why would you keep up this practice if is getting you so much bad press, it doesnt make sense. I just have your number go directly to voice mail. Waste of time and resources.
If you have done any business with a company, then I believe DO-NOT-CALL doesn't apply. You usually need to specifically opt-out of certain types of contacts, as most companies opt-in automatically. But, they can still contact you for issues with accounts.
I also did not answer a call from number 877-279-1060. But, a few minutes later, I redialed the number to see where it went and it indeed went to BB&T. They wanted to ensure I was getting good service and also to possibly upsell stuff. It sounds like the same voice in the recording as the voice I hear when I call BB&T Phone 24 to check account information.
I don't have a BB&T account, why would they call me and where did they get my cell phone number.I figure if they don't eave a message it is just a unnecessary call and I shouldn't be called two or three times a day. I too am on the do not call list for both home and cell phones.
1) The number does not appear as BB&T
2) The call is not in "direct" reference to my accounts, activity on one of my accounts, or investigating possible fraud on one of my accounts....which I would understand and is acceptable.
3) I did not "check any boxes' or agree to be contacted in any way (direct mail, email, phone calls) with "offers" for services, etc.
4) ALL my numbers are on DO-NOT-CALL list.
What part of DO-NOT-CALL is difficult to understand?
Got a call from this number, and wasn't home to answer. The caller left a voicemail (male) just saying "You're a liar."
I keep getting calls from this number. I don't have an account with BB&T and would never give personal information unless I initiated the call. So I blocked the number
I know what it is ! BB & T is desperate for business !
Recently, a Virginia College opened a new site and is using this ploy to get people to take out education loans for this useless, crappy, rop-off 'college'. They never promise you will get a job. They are also taking advantage of military persons who are handicapped in some way. There was an expose on television about that 'college' and others like it.
BB & T will also prey on military families to get them to sign high-interest mortgages, knowing full-well they could be transfered to a different military facility and not stay in the new house. Same with auto loans.
I spoke to a Sherina Cutler of BBT who claims to be customer service rep. She was rude and crude and did not speak very well. She claims these are COURTESY CALLS. But she was not at all familiar with the phone number that's been calling us. Let's face it folks. It's a SALES call. And if BB&T is resorting to these low-class tactics, we should all be better off moving our accounts elsewhere. And she asked for my SOCIAL SECURIT NUMBER over the phone !
And just to clarify, these are my OPINIONS. I am an American and have the right to state my opinion.
Many calls recently, the only message left was recorded stating they were with BB&T. I answered one this evening, the caller identified himself as a representative of BB&T, wanted to know if I was satisfied with the service and was starting to launch into a sales talk, i stopped him with a terse reply stating that I was not happy with them due to some recent changes in the state of my formally free checking account, to which he put me on hold to check, came back on, agreed with my assessment, and said good evening. I offered no other information, and none was asked of me.
I thought I got scammed when I opened an e-savings account and did not see it appear in the online bank section. Called BBT and she verified the time of the phone call and that in fact we did open a new savings account. Not a scam but I do think they outsource to a telemarket co.
i recieved a call from this number today and they were in a drive through ordering food. and then they hung up on me. dont sound like bb&t to me
I received 2 calls yesterday and even the day before, in fact I've received quit a few and I WORK FOR
BB &T !!!!! And I know they wouldn't be calling me. It's a SCAM. My advice, don't give out any information.
Good Grief People,
I just let the call go unanswered because I did not know who it was. I looked up the number and that is when I realized it was from the bank that I bank at. I actually like the fact that I get a courtesy call from where I bank. I did not get that type of service at any of my other banks. I just got off of the phone with them, I answered their question, and they asked me if I had any concerns with my banking.
Everyone is not a telemarketing spam outfit. If you truly do not want BB&T calling you to see how you; the costumer, is doing.. Then go to another bank.
this number is calling my business phone number. They have called 3 times back to back in one day.
