Debt Collector
This woman by the name of Linda Stark keeps calling and threatening me saying I owe money from a payday loan why back in 2010. This morning she had a man call my phone saying he was with Reed & White Associates and has filed a warrant for my arrest and needs my address to see if it is the same as what they have listed. If I need to make payment arrangements I need to contact Linda Stark. I have received many threatening phone calls from her , and she's called my place of employment threatening my Bosses. She is very rude , disrespectful , and threatening. You can't get a word in edge wise. The phone number that has been showing on my caller ID 209-275-1207 , until yesterday where it is now unknown , and today not even showing up on my phone or my phone not ringing , but then yet to be able to leave a voice message posing as a Law Official here in my home town using the name of our County Court Clerks Office. I called and nothing has been filed , no warrants as they claim and not only that if there is a warrant for people you will not be notified of having one. How stupid do these people think we are.

A woman named Linda called from that number and said that some weird activity was going on with my social security number. Then she said some other weird things and then told me to call her but didn't leave a number. When I called back she answered this is Linda Stark. I hung up. It's all the same scam where they say you are going to be arrested the next day and the police will be at your house first thing in the morning. I get about 10 calls a week like that. I guess I should have been thrown in jail by now... LOL> Best advice. Don't answer the call. Or if you do. Mess with them. Tell them to go ahead and come to my house. Tell them that you are waiting for them.
IF you ever look up the regulations on how to correctly collect real debt. You will learn that this is not how it is done.
You have rights even as a debtor. They have to prove in writing that you owe that particular debt and they have to proof that they own the right to collect it.
You should never give them any of the information they are requesting. If they are legitimate they would already have all that information in their case file.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I received a call from someone regarding an unpaid pay day loan.  She said name of her comapny is Reed & White and that to avoid criminal charges, garnishment or having my tax return taken I needed to pay $17.50 plus a $20 fee.  I was told they do not accept checks or money orders and had to give a debit/credit card. I was in shock for a few minutes and did give her my debit card number.  But once i calmed down and began to think about it more clearly I cancelled my debit card until I can investigate further.  Her contact number was 209-275-1207 but her msg left the toll free number 877-283-5481.

Same threatening phone call happened to me. They called my old employment number and left a message stating:  "This call is in reference to a claim that's being filed against the order for restraint under the act of title 18 of US code and section 1343. To show cause for this restraint you or your attorney need to contact my offices immediately at 877-283-5481."

This call originated from 404-445-2833. A woman with a southern USA accent left a voice mail that said, "This call is in reference to a claim that's being filed against the order for restraint under the act of title 18 of US code and section 1343. To show cause for this restraint you or your attorney need to contact my offices immediately at 877-283-5481."

The search results said the 877-283-5481 number is already a suspected scammer. Searching the results for the title and section of the US code showed that this is a section of the code relating to wire fraud but is also a typical line used by scammers as well who are looking for your credit card number.

The phrase they left on voice mail quoted above is very similar to what others have had left on their cell phones too.
