I got scammed too but figured it out only after I paid them. After you pay them you're suppose to sign these documents and fax back to them. Once that email never came I looked up the numbers and found it was a fraud. I called my bank and put a stop payment on it since it was pending and canceled my card. I don't understand how they got my husband's ssn and my phone number.

These people have called my husbands sister, his ex wife and another one of his sisters we haven't talked to in over 10 years. I called them back, I am his wife, and they procedded to tell me that they were going after an old debt from sprint in VA from Sept 11, 2003 we lived in SC at that date. They told me I had to give them banking info, credit card info or a prepaid credit card number to pay the old debt. HELLO people, there is a such thing as a charge off that when an old bill is created, isn't paid after 7 to sometimes 10 years they CAN NOT I repeat CAN NOT come after you bcuz it's CHARGED OFF. And to top it off we live in a none garnishing state.
The first call from these people were made to his sister who we haven't talked to 10 years, then the second call was made to another one of his sisters who again we do not talk to, now the last call was made to his ex wife, we have been married for 16 years and together for 18 years...talk about some dumb a***s!!!

This place just called a private club I belong to and told the day bartender that I was being sued by a friend or family member and gave her the # for me to call back.  She called me at work and I did just that and gave him a pc of my mind how dare they call a private club I belong to and tell them I am being sued and when I asked exactly who was "sueing" me he stated for a verizon bill from 1998 - REALLY?  If I did owe such a bill why are they calling now and why haven't they sent me any correspondence or try to call my work where I have worked for over 18 yrs - OH no they decided to call a private club and air this information.  When i asked for them to send me a copy of the bill he stated it doesn't work that way and giggled I told him that this was not a funny matter and that I was VERY PISSED and thought it was outrageously rude of them to give my info to someone else - he ended up hanging up on me.

I dont have a caller ID but someone called for another person in my household about having to attend court about a file claimed against them and said that now that they have spoken to me I have 1 hour to contact the person in charge and hung up immediately when I had some other questions to ask them such as what firm was calling. The guy gave me the firms number 1-877-285-4796 along with a case number. Of course, I googled the number just to find out if they're real or not and am grateful to see that this number is a scam.

Indeed people... this is a  JUNK DEBT BUYER, who is probably the 10th in line to have your old debt, who is simply using threatening tactics to scare people into paying.  BOTH the Attorney General's office and the Consumer Credit Protection office in my State agreed 100% that this is just a junk debt buyer and/or scam to scare people into giving up their money.  DON'T FALL for it.  They both stated that the IT IS ILLEGAL for a company to sue for a debt after statute of limitations and that INCLUDES attempting to file a civil lawsuit!  In fact, the guy at that office told me to give this company his name and number and call him and HE would tell them that their practices and actions are illegal.  I called the phone company that the alleged debt started with and THEY even said they sold the debt after 90 days way back in 2003!  Once an original creditor sells a debt - it is null and void!  Debt buyers don't want you to know this!  DO NOT agree to any debt, any payments, or even talk to them at all!  Simply get the name of the company, their address, the state they are licensed to practice in, and immediately file a complaint in your state.  When they can hook you with words, you can reactivate your debt all over again SO BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH WITH THEM.  A statute of limitations starts all over again once you agree there's a debt and you make a payment.
SHAME on the people who take a job with this company and do this!  Shame on you.  In fact, maybe I'll sue each and every one of you personally who I spoke with today while you so rudely got in the way of my normal daily production -including making money!!!

Yup.. here I am.. called the number and stood my position since i know never to deal w/ creditors over the phone. The gal I had was actually nice.. good for her, cause I can get ugly.  I study law and credit... this is quite a new bogus attempt by greedy corporations.  She says I owe verizon from 2003!  And they pursue civil lawsuits b/c statute of limitations don't apply to lawsuits, so this is how companies are attacking to get their money (despite what it costs them).  They are U.S. based, so no weirdness on that level.  They seem to operate as a real office; however, I don't recall ever having verizon so I need to confirm that.  I simply cannot believe the companies would waste all their time and money to get such small old debts - this is going WAY too far!!!!!!

They called me a month or so ago with threatening information about a lawsuit and being served papers at my job.  When I asked them to mail me paperwork, they just kept responding that I would be sued if i did not pay that day.  Today, they even called my mother!  They gave her a case number and phone number to call back.  My mother contacted me very concerned that I was going to be served a lawsuit in an hour if I did not call them back.  I had to explain to her that I believe it to be a hoax.  needless to say, that was 4 hours ago, and I have not been served any paperwork.

Debt Collector
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Don't bother with these people. I have T-Mobile, am in Texas, and got the same call. Spoke with the Attorney General's office and they said these people are fraudulent, those posting on here that state that there are potential real implications are part of the group, and that they know who they are and that they will be pursuing them.

Got called by a "processor" in North Carolina to call this number to void a "summons" to court. Now I check my credit report religiously, and have no debt, so I know there's nothing on. So I had my friend, a lawyer, call on my behalf to get information since, as a lawyer, she'd know if something was up, and they left her on hold for five minutes before she hung up.   I've seen other websites report these people as a scam, so I'm going ahead and filing a complaint since they threatened me with legal judgement.

I got a call from a phone number in North Carolina (828-919-6798).  I asked is she was a lawyer, she did not respond.  I told her she was a fraud and asked for a name, she said Carol Quisn.

They said they were trying to serve me but I asked what for they said a "legal matter" and I have to call the 877-285-4796 phone number.  She keep saying she was a court processor but did not provide the name of the court when asked.    They appear to try to be legal reps (lawyers, court officials....) but they are scam artists and/or dept collectors (probably fake one's). I feel what they are doing is highly illegal and suggest tape recording calls in states where it is legal.  Block their phone number using your smart phone and move on.

This appears to be a total SCAM.  I will not call the number back nor provide information to company.   You do not have to answer the door at your house by the way ;)

I would not worry

I got a call from some company as well, when I called the number back they gave me a file # and a different phone number to call. The lady on the phone told me they were suing me on behalf of T-mobile for an account that I allegedly had over 10 years ago. She told me I could settle it right now for $483, but if I didn't settle now, that I would have to pay $1100, plus court fees and lawyer costs around another $1500, and my wages would be garnished, as well as a lead put on my personal property. The name of the "law office" she said she worked for was PH consulting group, I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet, they aren't listed on the BBB. I filed a complaint with my State Attorney General, the Fair Trade Commission, and the BBB. I called T-mobile who told me they sold my debt to a collection agency, and that anybody other than that agency I should not talk to at all. It's illegal for a debt collector to threaten garnishment of wages, leans, or to claim to be a lawyer under the FDCPA and under my DOL state laws.

Called my father-in-law looking for me. Said I had to call another number to get ahold of the proper person. Said I owed $1117.69 but would settle for $400 immediately with a credit card. Then proceeded to tell me that I was going to be served papers to appear in court. Checked the clerk of the courts for confirmation and to my surprise...nothing. Called Embarq and the account number was too long and nothing with my SSN was in their data base. It's a scam!! Be leary of who you give your personal information to.

I was called and had a msg to call 1(877)285-4796. They had 3 addresses they had said they sent notices to, One of which I have not lived at for in 30 years. He told me it was from 2004 and 2005 from T-mobile. I had them but I am very good with my bills and I have no debt. This is the first i have heard of this and today is March 13th 2014.
They told me I had options. 1) pay the debt 2) have my wages garnished 3) Have a lien put on my house and 4) go to court.
My reply was 1) I have no money and do not owe this debt 2) I do not have a job 3) I don't own anything  & 4) Rent is free in jail I'm ok with that.
He got mad and started to to over talk me and threatened with this and that. His final words are I will have a processor will be at my house soon to serve me papers.  So here I wait.....with a bowl of popcorn..

I was called from this number saying a company called Embark had me in collections and was suing me and that I needed to pay $2000. The next person I talked to said the bill amount was $1000. Then they said I could sell for $400 and the next sentence said I could settle for $300. They could not give me an account number and refused to send me proof of the bill. I spoke with Century Link who is the company that absorbed Embark, and whom With I currently have an account.  they have no record of me owing them money and the phone number this collections agency gave me Said to be linked to my account and debt was not a phone number associated with any account that provides Internet or home phones. also the date of service they gave me far exceeded the time I lived in the address they said I had the account for.I have looked up the company on the claim to be and there is no record of such company. Also I have never heard of a collection agency that was also a process server.
