I got a call from this number claiming they were Wells Fargo reporting activity on my daughter's credit/debit card and that she needed to call this number or 1-800 869-3557 to reset her card. They were Phishing for card number and social security number.
Fortunately my daughter caught it after a similar experience with another scammer. I did not get it until my daughter called back. THEY ARE RLENTLESS!

This is a REAL Wells Fargo number! I 100% guarantee it. They are calling to get your new card activated. I received a call, thought it was strange after reading about the number online, but then received my new debit card in the mail two days later. Again, this is a REAL Wells Fargo number. They activated my new debit card when I called them back.

This IS a real number. I ordered a new card and haven't activated it yet. And I just got a call from them today saying I haven't activated it yet. And they are right. Sooooo idk what all these other people are talking about.

This is a real Wells Fargo debit card activation number. It's just that they are all gay out in Californei. They're too confused to know what sex they are, they're pretty much too confused to type in the correct customer phone number to call. They're also too airheaded to know about security and requires a full input of your entire card's number. This pretty much tells you what kind of gay gay happy happy joy joy folks you're trusting your financial information to.
shaun 2013-08-05 14:00:38 Unknown
The number seems ligit, but the call is not. they are spoofing the number so that they sound ligit. This is not only a scam but phone fraud that the phone services take seriously, if caught these guys may go to jail for a few decades (look up phone freaking and kevin mitnick). Part of the trick is they call from a number you know so you trust them, keep in mind they can look up land-line number and address together as a matter of public record and use that to send you a fake card in the mail and then call you for the phishing scam. It sounds like the phone companies have a security breach on top of the banks problem here.

Just received a call from this number, did not answer it. Looked it up on Google and found this site, I never give my card number to anyone over the phone unless I have called them first.

This is the number you call to activate cards from Wells after they send you one. Just received a new card (the current one expires next month) I called it and activated the card. The number is printed on Wells Fargo materials you receive from them.

Got a call at 11 AM and they waited 10 seconds before hanging up. They didn't say a thing.
WF employee 2013-06-26 18:27:12 Unknown
This is not a real Wells Fargo number. I'm an employee and this is fake!
Margate 2013-06-20 23:48:06 Unknown
Just received my new WF Debit Card . . . that number is on the sticker to activate it. I called - my Card is now activated! C'mon people - how many of us have to verify this before you get it???????? If you got a call and you don't have a WF account, then they simply called the wrong number!!! SHEESH!!

Rec'd a call from 1-800-704-9855 that referred me to 1-800-869-3557. I spoke to a young lady who claimed to be from WF, when I told her I was not giving my personal information she said that I could trust her because she would give me her name and employee number to verify who she was. Wasn't falling for that either. I told her I would stop into the bank and make sure it was legit. She thanked me for being a loyal WF customer.
Seems like a scam to me.

Just now going thru call list, and this # called (no message) on Feb 22, 2013. I'm a WF convert/holdover from Wachovia; but I don't recall talking to anyone about my ckcard, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't give out my personal info. Considering that the Wach-2-WF replacement was effective beginning a few weeks later on the 1st of March, it's all a little weirdly coincidental.

i called wells fargo and confirmed that this is a phishing scam. they will not call you for debit card verification. i did call 877-294-6933 back and it sounds very good. the guy was very professional and also recommended i go to a local branch to see if there is a problem...how nice of him.
don't fall for it!

Received a message from Wells Fargo regarding activating our new debit card. We have no account with them, so I ignored it. About a week later, Wells Fargo called again, this time it was a live person. Apparently they were trying to reach the person who used to have our phone number. We've lived here for almost 20 years, so those records must be really outdated!

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from American Express, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Chase Bank, U.S. Bank, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

This number DOES belong to Wells Fargo Bank. It is the number that comes on the sticker of a new card that you call to activate your card. I double checked my records, since I saved the stickers to all my cards, and yep.. called the same number 3 yrs ago to activate THAT card (different account). Perhaps some phishing group is using software to call people and displaying Wells Fargo Banks number... I don't know. But if you call this number.. it is an automated service to activate new cards from Wells Fargo Bank.

I CALLED this number!
It's Wells Fargo's debit card service. It's legitimate for my case since I told them to send me a new debit card due to an online fraud. It's to activate any new wells fargo card, I guess it's just a security measure
Kathleen A Early 2013-04-03 20:28:22 Unknown
Received a call telling me to activate a debit card - I have no account with Wells Fargo.
F.E. 2013-03-26 14:24:16 Unknown
Had a missed call and checked this site. I do have Wells Fargo accounts and just activated a new account and card a few days before this call came in. aggravating!!
meatIsMurder 2013-03-05 02:04:40 Unknown
I received my WF debit card today. It said to call this number to activate it. I was suspicious, but I did anyway and activated my card.
I called WF (at the legitimate 1-800-TO-WELLS) and asked about the number. The person said it was a valid, WF 1-877 number. I asked if my card had been activated. She said it had.
I don't know why so many people are think this is a scam, but there is no reliable information on about this number on the Internet. WF needs to not put us through this.
My advice would just be to stick to the 1-800-TO-WELLS number and make the person who answers that number activate your card. I wish I had; I'm still wondering if they've got my information.
Jen 2013-01-29 18:09:52 Unknown
It was wells fargo who called me and they said they are sending me a new card because the one I have was used at a business whos information was compromised. When i called them back i didnt call the number that was left on the message i actually called the number that I normally use to call Wells Fargo and they told me this information is correct so I know its not fraud.

I just got a call from the number 877-294-6933. Like most of the people who posted, I too do not have a WF credit card or account. It was an automated voice. I will contact Wells Fargo from a number on their site just to be sure there is no credit fraud or identity theft.

Wells Fargo, same "activate your card" message, and a call back number.
Business as usual.
Payback 2012-12-01 03:15:23 Unknown
So scammers spoofed this number for personal gains? If this number belongs to Well's Fargo, it is upto them to do an inquiry and take their number back.
yef 2012-12-01 03:14:56 Unknown
How on earth can it be a legit number and a scam at the same time?? That makes no sense!
Johnny 5.0 2012-12-01 03:11:39 Unknown
1) This is a legit Wells Fargo #
2) THIS IS ALSO A SCAM....
3) F*** scammers! Is it that hard to make an honest buck?!?! I work my a** off...
I called to activate my card on a legit WF#. I was transferred to carribbean cruise lines (not a real company) where they claimed I won a cruise. They immediately began phishing type inquiries.
Reccommendation: Immediately hang up and go to the bank to activate (possibly even close your compromised accounts).
RedeeRicRac 2012-10-03 21:43:47 Unknown
Received this call and immediately hung up and called my local Wells Fargo branch. This is fraud. Wells Fargo will not call you to solicit you to activate a debit card. Do not give these people any information it is a phishing scam.

I called the FBI regarding this number.
