I just received a call. It's legit. There's a posting on their official facebook page by them that it's a legit number too. It does sound shady as all hell though.

It is in fact a correct phone number for the fraud department associated with BOA, however I would never give any info to anyone who phones me.  I always call the number that I find on statement or 411 or go to a branch.
This is my experience with this phone number and BOA.
They called me several times and I told them I was not going to give info I would go into a branch.  I went into a branch and had them check out my account and they said everything was fine.  I told them about the number that called and they were unfamiliar with it.  This number called me again.  I did not answer and instead did a chat session online at BOA and reported the call and asked them to check my account.  They said everything was fine.  I asked them to report the call to their fraud department.  They said they would as they were also unfamiliar with this phone number.  Then the next time I try to get online my account is locked.  I call BOA and am connected with their fraud department who doesn't believe I am who I am so they made me go into a branch which I did AGAIN and still my account looks fine, but they call fraud department to verify that i am who I am.  In the meantime, I had a check that I had sent to my daughter to pay her back for a loan she had given me and she deposited it.  They put a stop payment on the check, because of a fraud alert that noone saw all of the times I contacted the bank.  Now there are fees for my daughter at her bank for the check not clearing.  BOA gives me the total run around trying to get the $15 returned to her to reimburse for the NSF fee due to BOA stopping payment on my check.
So my advice to you first and foremost is to bank elsewhere.  Many credit unions have much better rates even on checking accounts than you can get at BOA.
Second, if you get a call from this number find the BOA number on your statement and call and ask for the fraud department.  Noone else in the bank will have any idea of what is going on with your account and the fraud department which is ridiculous but true.  Straighten it out with them as best as you can and tell them not to stop payment on any of your checks, bill pay or transfers.
I have since received letters stating that they stopped the check at my request.  NOT TRUE and another thanking me for my business and for going paperless when I changed an account.  All of this is while this fraud thing is going on and they are cancelling my check.
Not one dept in BOA knows or cares what another is doing with your account.
I have closed my account, my daughter has closed hers and her credit union has waived the $15 fee so we can quit fighting with BOA to reimburse her.
So find another bank.  They really are awful.

The caller left a vm stating that he was with Bank of America Fraud Department and that we should immediately call back.  A call to Bank of America's phone number listed on the back of the credit card revealed that they made no such call.  The caller is a scam artist!

This number is legit. I did as Brian did and hung up when they asked for my DL# and employer. I then called the number on the back of my debit card. The first person could not find the reference number that was left in my voicemail. I was suspicious. They couldn't verify the phone number that was left on the voicemail either. After being transferred to the Fraud Investigation, someone there was able to determine that the number is for the "online bill pay" department. Apparently, the online bill pay department is somewhat separate from the rest of BofA!

I received a voice message that asked me to call 8773026565 back with a reference number. I didn't know for sure that the number is legitimate or not, so I called the customer service number on the back of my card, and was transferred to Customer Protection department (was firstly transferred to online fraud claim department which is not the right department). They confirm that 8773026565 IS a BofA service number and it is not a scam.

So don't be scared if you received a similar message. If you don't feel comfortable, always call the customer service number that you trust and ask them to transfer to the right department.

It's a scam.  On 8/2/12 BofA confirmed this is NOT one of their numbers.  Their fraud department is investigating.

That's funny, I received calls from this number and I called B of A and they said there was no fraudulent activity with my account and the calls are part of a a scam.  Scary thing is they knew my wife's name, our phone number, that we have B of A... so the folks affiliated with this number are doing their research.  Beware.

My wife received calls from this number, they reported fraud and asked for personal information - mother's maiden name, etc.  I called B of A, and this is not a legit phone number.  B of A will never call you and ask for your information. They only ask for personal information when you call them to verify you are who you say you are.  BTW - since apparently you read this post and write thinks like this number is legit - F*** YOU!

I got a call from this number and was very suspicious.  I called BOFA and it is, in fact, their e-commerce dept.

First post is absolutely untrue.  I called the 877 number, and gave the person who answered the reference number they left on my voicemail.  They, "Couldn't find the record," so they asked for my account number, or ATM card number.  I hung up as soon as they did, called Bank of America, and sure enough, there were no issues with my account, and my Bill Pay was not, "Frozen," as the voicemail had claimed.  It's a scam.

My dad got 2 calls from this number. They left messages saying that they needed to ask him about where the funds in this new account came from and the account was on hold until he called in with some information. He never called them but BOA confirmed that there was nothing wrong with this account.  this was an inside job and I am positive that this was from the guy who opened this new account. We plan to get the FBI involved

I got the very similar email. I called the 800# on boa website and turned out this was totally a scam. Never ever give out any personal information. BOA will never ask your SSN. Also the number showed on my phone was 1-925-675-2608.

That's interesting. On http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-302-6565, a handful of people have identified it as a scam number.
