Three years is not true.  They can go back 10 years auditing you.  Believe me I know.  They are in the process of doing this to me right now.  I checked with my bookkeeper and the IRS because I thought it was three years also.

Linebarger, Goggan, Blair, & Sampson is a law firm that specializes in debt collection. They tell us they work for several Florida Clerks of Court, including Hillsborough County, to assist in collecting from people who owe the government money. They previously worked for the IRS to assist with the collection of taxes. In 2007, the IRS did not renew its contract with the firm. A government report later that month would refer to the firm?s debt collection tactics as ?disturbing?.

These folks claiming to represent the OTC have been sending me bills for unpaid taxes? for about 2 years. I lived in OK for exactly 5 years from 2000-2005 and filed my taxes religiously every year. They claim I owe over $18,000????? This is ridiculous and completely unacceptable. I was told a year ago to ignore the inquiries but just received another letter yesterday. Now it's time to contact the REAL OK Tax Commission and demand an answer for this nonsense. I have enough to worry about other than getting harassed by a law firm demanding payment for something with no explanation. ESPECIALLY considering I never got any kind of statement from the OTC with an outline or explanation of what or why I owe them money??? Seems a little strange huh???

What did you get as a response? I, too, got a letter from them... saying I owe over $2600.00. I've always paid my taxes and my aunt is a CPA and she is the one that does them. Have you made any progress?

Today I received a letter for LGBS, LLP today stating that I owe $2,329.31 to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Funny thing is I don't live in OK, I lived there a couple yrs ago for less then 4mo. I have professional CPA's prepare my taxes. I called the number on the letter and was transfered to Shawn Campbell's voicemail. I then emailed otcmaster@tax.ok.gov so that I may find some answers. I have lived in the same state for 37yrs, except for the couple of months I was transfered by my employer.

I'm pretty sure this letter is fraudulent.

See I am not the only one getting letters from these idiots. I was stationed in Oklahoma in 1995. Seriously, I think there are some jobs shoveling horse crap in OK, thats at least 2 steps up from what they are doing.

Yes it seems like a scam to me too, since I'm fairly positive I don't owe any taxes from when we lived in OK over 15 years ago. They even have that last four digits of my SSAN.

I looked up the Oklahoma Tax Commission's web site and this company is listed as a collector for the state. I sent an email to the OTC (not the attorney's office) telling them about the methods this company is using. The funny thing is that we are poor people and they say that I owe over $4000 in state taxes. I never even owe that much in federal taxes! Makes me wonder.

I didnt get a call from the phone number listed by all of you however I have gotten texts from a local Wichita wireless cell number that simply said "you have mail. Linebarger Googan Blair & Sampson LLP"  That is all the text said, I got that one on Dec. 2 2011 and then today, Dec. 4 I got another text from the same number that said "Whats happening? Got a surprise. Wait till you see!"  I looked up the company today and like all of you found that they seem to ba  tax collection agent for Oklahoma.  The real kicker is that I grew up in Olathe Kansas and as an adult moved to Wichita, I have never ever lived in Oklahoma.  How did these people get my number to collect taxes from Oklahoma?  Sounds like major fraud to me.

Remember, this is the USA and there are statuate of limitations on everything, yes, even taxes and even federal taxes. THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW. Look it up. Look up "STATUATE OF LIMITATIONS TAXES STATE" and read a bunch. Most states follow the Federal rules, which are pretty much ikn favor of the taxpayer. Look it up. Talk to a lawyer.

A few states do not follow Federal Guidelines, but have their own. Kansas is a good example, and very taxpater favored. Talk to a lawyer, but if not, look it up. Read. Knowledge is power.

Find out about recording your phone calls, it is legal in some states. Laws were created by people in our sitauations, find out which law, use it, going to a party? Meet all the lawyers you can, become THEIR BEST FRIEND.  You can BET that these sleezy collectors do.

I took it to military lawyers they think it is a fraud, but safety, to send them a letter demanding explanation, I did, cert mail, and in a few weeks received some phony explanation explaining nothing. That was 10 months ago, strangely, last week I got another demand for this payment of an assessment that never happened. All indicastions are this is a scam of some kine, one lawyer said ignore it. I used to get some stuff just like this from collectors claiming to rep Verizon, for  bills that had been paid years ago. Smaller bills, not in the thousands these people claim.

My guess is outside of the USA fraud of some kind. I have never believed in paper shredders, but do now, as this might have come from people rummaging through trash, or online phishing. I lose no sleep over it. Phony websites with phony maps , phony links, and the only thing that seems to work is a link to pay them directly, with "small print" that allows them to change the payee from anyone to their name. I say scam scam scam, and think we will see a lot more of this trash.

I was also contact by LGBS saying that my ex usband ad I owe OK State Tax Commission $2,753.62 from 1983, 84,86 & 87, yet this is the first my ex-husband and I have ever heard of ownng taxes to Oklahoma.  We lived ther eover 25 years ago and we've been paying taxes every year with the same SSN's.  Intersting - my letter also was in my name - but with my ex-husband's last 4 of his social security number.  Also interesting ----- the letter says "Oklahoma tax Commission" - NOT Oklahoma STATE Tax Commission...I think they're just trying to scare us into paying something they know we dont owe and they're counting on us all to be too stupid to investigate further!  I live in Indiana -- anybody else in Indiana hear from them?  Just got a call on 2/14 and a letter todaty 2/17.

Husband only named on his he got, too. After a lot of research, I am thinking it might not be an outright scam or fraud, BUT we still do not even have a clue what their letter is all about, not even a clue. But according to research on the Internet, their collectors get a whole lot overly-agressive. I have been a collector, and believe me you, it is not a fun job unless you just love it. I did not. My advice is just be as nice as you can, don't let them get you too excited, and most of the good ones will give you every break they can find, but it must help them collect or otherwise find an acceptable solution. People get theirselves into all kinds of trouble in finances, they know this, much of it  problems they are not even aware of until even years later. Nobody, even the worste of bill collectors, and there are many, but none of them want to ruin anyone financially. Hang in there, get legal help when you need it, and there will probably be a solution fit for you.

Smells like a fraud to me, I have not even been in Oklahoma in 30 years, but it referrs to Okla tax assesment, which also sounds like a scam, I called the number, got a recording when I asked for the persons name, and the voice said please leave your full name and social security number, and they would call me back.

Right. Never ever do this.
