I did receive a call from this number stating they were American Express Merchant services.  Although I didn't sign up directly with American Express, my merchant processor did set me up to accept American Express with the other cards.  I spoke with a rep and she was very polite, didn't ask any personal information, but GAVE ME information and resources to help my business grow and attract new customers.  All of the information I received in her email was legit and was from the actual AMERICAN EXPRESS website!
**THIS IS NOT A SCAM** If you're a business owner, small or not, I'd return the call...you never know the information they have to offer may actually help you out and did I mention, it's FREE ;)

This is a legitimate call from American Express Merchants Services.  If you have set up a merchant services account with ANY bank or other processor and agreed to accept AmEx through that merchant services account, but have since not accepted any (or many) actual AmEx charges, they are calling to find out why and determine if there are any problems or issues they can resolve.  When I explained that we had closed our Merchant Services account through our bank, they apologized, said they would update their records, and hung up.  At no time did they ask for personal or business information that could be used in a phishing scam.

Just spoke with them after receiving a voicemail about a merchant account. They are calling from american express, was able to confirm. They wanted to confirm a merchant account that I had set up through my bank to accept american express cards. I did not set up anything through them directly, but I did choose to accept the card through my banks processor which is what they were calling to confirm.

Phoned our place of business claming to be American Express Merchant Services: This is a scam.  They are not AM-EX and we do not have an Am Ex Merchant Services account. This *wasn't* a cold call from AM/EX,  this was the boiler plate phishing scam.

Said they were AMEX merchant services... wanted to check in on me since I had set up a merchant account for my business

To call them about an account I set up, I didn't set any thing up?

just got called from this number. they say they were american express bank..
