I just had a call from GCS. Their number on my caller ID was 201-917-7019. his name was Samson and I had to call him back at a different number which was 1-877-314-4678 ext 703 I believe. Called my cell phone looking for my husband. Stated that this was a debt which was over 5 years ago, which we paid off in FULL. But after 5 years they are now contacting us? They said our debt was over $1000, and asked if we had checked our credit report for this issue and I said, actually yes we have and they're is nothing on there regarding this debt. He said there was a pending lawsuit that is going to the courts tomorrow morning at 9am and we needed to pay now. I hung up. Oh and get this, this is the best part, when he asked me to verify the 4 of my husbands SSI# I gave them the wrong number and they still were trying to give me all this bull crap about this debt. I totally think it's a scam. I'm pretty sure that if we had a debt we would have received a phone call or letter a lot sooner than 5 years after it was taken care of.

It doesn't really matter who they are. If you have taken out a debt and didn't pay it back you are the wrong one. They are doing a job that wouldn't be here if everyone just paid their bills. You can sit on here and try to get upset or think you are getting them in trouble with different agencies but you really aren't. You are just prolonging your debt. All collection agencies are going to do is tell you to pay it. If you don't want to then take your chances with how they proceed forward. Its that simple.

You are on the right path! Do not let this piece of trash push you around or scare you into paying money. A real debt collector knows if they are told not to call a place of work it is illegal to do so when you tell them to stop.  Contact the state attorney general and local police if they try to threaten you give as much info as possible and if you have a yahoo email account take out your personal info like phone number and any other personal info this idiot probably hacked into your account to find you.

Crystal call your state attorney general office and report that they called your place of work and also contact the federal trade commission. They will give you instructions on what to do next also  if you paid with a debit card that is directly connected to your checking account I would double check it every day to make sure the company is not taking money out of it.  If you make a payment to them use a separate debit card that cannot be connected to your main account and then use the feature on the back of the card to see who is actually using the card.  All debit transactions can be traced that will give you some idea who you are dealing with, make small payment  then do not make another payment to them until you hear back from the attorney general and the FTC.

I did not vote for Obama.  Look up the definition of Predatory Loan and read the FTC regulations.  It is not as simple as folks not paying their loans.  FTC has regulations for a reason.

Some Tony Stevens called me from GCS & Associates & said he had a claim file attached to my social & that I needed to call back TODAY (which happened to be 2 days ago)! He even left a claim number & some other reference number. Sounds like a scam to me!

By the way, the number he called from was 201-917-7019 but left 877-314-4678 ext. 709 as the call back number.

This number has called me to tell me that they have documents that they are trying to deliver to me at work, or at home.  They say they don't want to go to my place of employment, and at the address they have on file for me, I have been unreachable.  The caller's name was Mac Mitch, and he told me to call and ask for Andre Miller.

I recieved a call from a mr. John Lee from phone number 877-314-4678 who left a voicemail to call him back at ext 703 and he stated I was listed as a person of interest, even gave a case number (I feel like he was trying to intimidate and act like law enforcment). When I called him back he said an unpaid debt was referred to them from the year 2006. He refused to mail me validation of the debt. So I refused to continue to sepak with him and hung up. What can I do in regards to making them stop calling me?

This company keeps calling my husband at work.  I have called them repeatedly and spoke with  a John Lee, probably not even his real name.  We have asked him not to call at work trying to explain that is illegal to make collection calls to a persons employer in the state of Iowa.  Mr. Lee thinks he is above the law.  I have now filed 2 complaints with the attorney general's office and the next call I make will be to a debt harrassment attorney.  We have asked for their address, which Mr. Lee refuses to give us.  So, I"m sure this is not even a legitimate debt.  This Mr. Lee has messed with the wrong people.

Do NOT send them any more money until they have validated the debt!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>
