They call again and no one is there.  So I call them back and just listen to them say "Hello. Hello.  Heeellllooo" using Skype, so they don't know who I am.

Many of you guys have caller ID or an answering machine. Use that to your advantage. Record each and every call and document the incident. Every single time, take a snap shot or document the call via phone bills or written record of every time you receive a ghost call. IT IS ILLEGAL regardless if the debt is owed or if they have a legitimate claim to call to call and hang up. It is ILLEGAL to do robocall. The caller must identify themselves at the time of the call and notify why they are calling, if they dont, it is ILLEGAL. It is ILLEGAL to not send written verification of said debt. IT IS ILLEGAL and is considered harrasment in civil courts for them to continue to call after written certification or verbal notification (if you are not the person they are looking for).

Use your caller ID and use your answering machine. Depending on your state, you may need to notify the caller that you are recording the call at the begining of the conversation. I promise you, I promise you, I promise you, if you follow these simple steps, even if the debt is owed, there isnt a LAWYER in this country or in your area who wouldnt assist you for free to seek compensation on YOUR behalf.

I am all for people paying their bills, but harrassment, rudeness, intimidation, and blantant desperate disregard of the laws is not acceptable.

since they hang up as soon as you answer [ even before you speak]  could it be they are not trying to make contact but are trying to find out where people are NOT.
a similar situation exists with [253]246-8517 and other #'s in that sequence.
could they be connected?
Is this suspicious?
Who should it be reported to?

Commentor "TexMom" offered a Saint Louis address on the second page of this thread ten minutes before you. Manta lists Rockford, Illinois. Vision is in bed with toxic debt buyer Jefferson Capital, removing all surprise from efforts at obfuscation.

Not sending a timely dunning letter to an alleged debtor is flatly illegal and desperately hiding its own address from everyone else would be unfair practice, therefore violating FDCPA. If I send CMRR to a "best guess" address and it bounces, I'll just add that to my civil complaint and try again elsewhere. Possibly a valid address would turn up in an already filed case, found via Justia or Recap.

They called again at work and no one was there when I answered.  I will now set my predictive dialer to call them 100 times... gee... I'm really sorry if I'm not available when I call you.

From what I've heard here and elsewhere, good luck trying to get them to cough up a valid address to send a "cease and desist" letter to.      Trying to determine their location by other means (internet, etc) seems a real crap shoot.

The company is Vision Financial and the corporate office is located at 11960 Westline Industrial #330 St. Louis, MO 63146. Their corporate number is 314-469-5544 and their fax is 815-713-2497. I ended up having to send them a cease and desist letter to get them to stop calling but they still call, only from different numbers now! When I call them, they say my number isn't even in their system. When I ask, then how in the hell am I calling you back, they stutter. The funny thing is I have no accounts in collection at all. We should take a cue from the woman in West Virginia that sued a collection agency for their practices and WON, to the tune of $10 million. http://abcnews.go.com/US/va-woman-fights-coll ... ory?id=16205697

} press the pound key

A determined enough agency (or other junky caller) will not be fooled for long if ever. Our Touch Tone devices do not accurately mimic a telco Special Information Tone and technically the call is registered as completed if you're trying to punch keys in response. Get on a Cert Mail paper trail as I'd advised previously and the offending caller steps in a legal bear trap with each call that violates a peson's written orders. That assurance is not offered by any other countermeasure.

To follow a person's logic these thugs would need to have graduated from fifth grade rather than the Iron Bar Academy. You didn't need the BBB to tell you to tread carefully. No collection agency which relies on abuse and lies has a strong hand in terms of proof of claim. They are begging for a lawsuit from each of you making complaints here.

This company has called me from several different numbers. Several 877 numbers. A New Jersey local number, a number local to were I live, and even from a Verizon cell phone from Georgia. Spoofing cell phones is illegal by the way. They were also very verbally abusive on the phone. The thing is when I researched their company they claimed they were working off some outstanding student debt I had. The address they had for me was at least 8 years old. I had consolidated all my debt but when I ran my credit report the company that originally had my loans showed up. I called them and they said my loans showed as paid in full from when I consolidated. That is now off my credit report. When I told them this they got even more abusive and I talked with a "Manager" who could not follow my logic. When I looked up Vision Financial on the BBB they were not accredited and also had a ridiculous number of complaints. That coupled with the fact that they could not give me a physical address of their company (only gave me a PO Box) and the BBB had different locations for them all over the country doing the same thing, makes me very glad I did not pay them a penny.

I continue to get calls from 877-316-6372 and when I answer, know on ei son the other end.  So I call the number to get a recorind about the company which is Vision Financial.  Have you folks listened to it.  The girls sounds like she is on speed and then the transfer is another moran.  So when I get a person on the phone and ask what the fax number to their company is they refuse to give any information.......did I just fall off the turnip truck or what.  Identify yourself weasles and then we can talk.  Until then, FTC for complaint is the way I am going.

This is a frequent ploy by collection agencies and mass marketers.  A robotized dialer phones the number and says and does nothing.  The person will often call back.  A human then asks for the person's name, and if it matches the company records, they know the number still belongs to that person, and they proceed accordingly.

Unfortunately, if they're told the number doesn't belong to the person, they do not delete it from the list.  They put it back in the queue to be phoned later.

When you get a phone call from one of these companies, remember the number. When you're phoned again, answer it, press the pound (#) key three times, and hang up.   That will fool most of the systems into believing that  they've gotten the "no such number" tone, and your number will be auto-deleted from the database.

If you have adequate documentation of these calls, you can easily rip Vision a new poop chute in court. You have a half dozen crazy violations in your comment here, and I imagine your call logs would yield more. That'll be $1K statutory and generous actual damages for needless pain, suffering, and terror ... heaped upon a disabled person no less! I would pay admission to watch a baliff restrain the judge from strangling the opposing counsel if they try to justify any of this behavior as an "oopsie". A decent consumer lawyer will leap at this on contingency if you don't think you want to sue alone.

If Vision or any other collection agency thinks you owe something, be sure to respond on real paper to its federally required dunning letter with a dispute and validation request, adding that you either restrict or revoke consent to call again. Given this firm's documented need to break laws to get at your assets, you should dispute even if you agree slightly with its claim.

If the account is not legally collectable, or it's simply not you they want, you're free to send a full cease-comm, cutting off all contact. Send all notices via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft them. Pay close attention to all communication and document it well. If those contacts yield legal violations, you may collect from *them* through a judge or arbitrator.

Called me twice within minutes, once on my cell, once on my work phone, they don't leave a message so I guess I'm supposed to just know who they are. I NEVER answer 800 numbers, and I NEVER answer local numbers that I do NOT recognize because they now use that trick to get you to answer, but even when you do answer there is nobody there, call the number back and it says it's not a working number, how can it not be a working number if someone just called from it??? DUH! If you want to speak with me then leave me a message otherwise leave me ALONE!

Belongs to Vision Financial out of New Jersey. They've been calling me, asking for someone that does not live at my number. When I try to tell them, they get very rude, call me names, and claim that they've spoken to me before. Then they make outlandish claims-that they're going to get me thrown in prison, take my kids(but I don't have any), take my car(never had one, disabled since birth). They once said they had someone in the area, and they would be stopping by for a 'chat'. I laughed, and asked them where they thought I lived. They rattled off an address that was for a city at the other end of the zip code area. I told them so, and said I wouldn't be waiting up, as they didn't even know where I lived.
