These pieces of filth have been calling for at least three months looking for my ex-mother-in-law. So, I sent them a cease and desist letter today. Just coincidentally, one of their employees just called, and it went like this:

"May I speak to so-and-so?"
"I sent you a cease and desist letter today. This had better be your last phone call."
Silence.
Click.

These filthy swine can legally call you all they want, even if you don't owe any debts. Their tactic is to repeatedly call anyone and everyone who was ever associated with the person they're looking for. My credit score is over 800 and I don't owe any bad debts. A certified cease and desist letter is all they understand, since you can sue their a**es for every phone call after they receive it.

Just a thought. We can complain all we want, but a letter gives them two choices: stop or be sued. Do it.

Automated call asking for someone else. It said to press 2 if you were not that person.  I did.  They then got on the line and asked if I was that person... lol  DUH, I just pressed 2 idiot!  Then, as if I am STUPID, he says he needs MY date of birth for SECURITY purposes.  HAHAHAHA  I said, Nice Try Buddy, Good Bye.

They keep calling and looking for someone with a similar name. I am going to sue them. I wish I had their home phone numbers.

I called their office once and they actually put Gurstel on the phone. He said if I did not pay they would take my house away. Make my day.

http://gurstelchargowatch.blogspot.com has a lot of dirt on these guys.

They won't receive a judgement on debt that has expired...tatute of limitations barrs them from that if the person knows the debt is beyond the SOL...but since you are so smart you already knew that huh?!

Slobber, as someone who worked there for 5+ years I really wish you would elaborate on "treating their employee's like s***." That certainly never happened to me.  Slobber is right about one thing, almost all of the debts they collect on are actually owed, so pay your bills if you don't want to be harrassed!

GC will go out of business when everyone starts paying their own bills, petty or not. You spend it, you owe it. It IS a shady practice and they treat their employees like s***. But yeah.. its still your debt. That's your responsibility as a card/loan holder or a cosigner

I beg to differ. I called CAP1 and advised them when I lost my job. They agreed (at first) to take $100 a month directly from my checking account on my 16k debt until I could get a job. 3 months later they fwded me to collections and when I tried to negotiate with CAP1 legal department. they wanted almost 2k a month which I could not afford. It then went to Gurstel Chargo who now won't even consider a settlement or payment arrangement until I give them all of my financial info. FAT CHANCE!!!

The are bottom feeders.

I'm getting communication from these chumps in Iowa as well.  It's for a bad debt with Chase.  As soon as they try to sue me, I'm filing bankruptcy.  We're being killed by a slow job market and receive benefits for food assistance and medical for our four kids.  There is not way in hell I can pay them as much as I wish I could.

I suspect comments4u and Jenna have agendas here.  Gurstel, Staloch & Chargo are junk debt collectors, were sued successfully in Arizona for FDCPA violations and are basically legally sanctioned extortionists.  Their days of free reign pocket filing may be numbered in Minnesota, however, due to some recently introduced restrictions on their street corner tactics clogging up the courts and forcing elderly victims of dead a spouse's sol debts to eat cat food by having their disability checks (very illegal) stolen from their bank accounts .

If you are getting harrassing calls from these amoral agencies, take your money out of the bank and go strictly cash until any and all issues are resolved.  Remember, if you receive any government assistance whatsoever, they cannot touch you on pain of a federal or state lawsuit against them.  It's hard to fight the devil, but there are things you can do.  Make these sociopathic agencies prove every cent they are trying to collect, especially given they probably paid only $50. for a $2,000. charged off debt.  They will soon have to in Minnesota, God willing.

After reading much on these people by tracing their number, I highly doubt in any form are these people qualified in any law or professionalism. These perverts called me looking for some Hoover character and accused me of being a (quote) F-A-G-G-O-T (unquote). Lawyer or not this is uncalled for. THEY have the wrong number and incorrect information and that IS IN NO WAY my fault nor is their language called for. They need watch their dialing and quit calling the wrong people. Fat fingering a number, when informed they have the wrong number does not constitute 7 year-old behavior and temper tantrums.

Be aware that debt collectors are not able to leave messages on voicemails that are unidentified. Therefore, you may never think you have gotten a phone call from a debt collector when in fact they have tried. Also, it is your job to update your phone, address, etc on all outstanding debtors, debt collectors are only obligated to send letters out to last known addresses, so if you never update them you may never receive phone calls and/or letters. Also remember that Gurstel, Staloch and Chargo is a collections law firm that represents clients that own the debt, they do not actually own any of the debt that they collect on. To have your bank account garnished this would mean that they had a judgment against you, which would mean that you had been served at some point. Be advised that you do not have to be served personally but that any person of suitable age and discretion can accept service at your home on your behalf.

If you are receiving calls from Gustel, Staloch and Cargo, I would strongly advise you to take them seriously. They are very good at what they do. I did not receive anything in the mail from them nor have I ever heard from them. I woke up one morning with my bank accounts wiped out. They went and got a court order without my knowledge and took everything. This was from a debt that was at least 8 years old. There was nothing I could do. I had to set up a payment plan to pay off the rest of the debt or they would keep draining my account. The same thing happened to a friend of mine, recently, with the same law firm.

I don't get phone calls from these scums, but I did get a letter with a local and long distance phone number on it.  "Stressed" is right, these guys are a Minneapolis law firm.  They claim I owe a whole bunch of money to Citibank.  Problem is, I don't have a Citibank account.  I did years ago but paid it off way back in 1990.  In fact, I'm going to complain to Minnesota's Attorney General about this.  And I'm also going to complain to the FTC.  I'll be d@mned if these dirt bags are going to get away with ripping me off!
