Call their number, press 1-1-1 to talk to a representative that may be able to remove you from their list.

For added fun, keep calling the number asking for random AMEX stuff that the real AMEX should be able to answer.

I've received a call from this number every day for nearly two years now. There are two different automated messages that cycle through for about 3 weeks each. 1) "Please call Sharon Smith at American Express at 877-354-8148..." and 2) This message is for...Roxroy Young [not my name]. Please call American Express at 877-354-8148..." I have never had a personal AmEx card; only corporate card through a previous employer that has long been defunct. This is clearly a scam. Who do we report this to to take some corrective action? It would seem that the real AmEx would want to quickly squelch any fraudulent organizations using their name and reputation for illegal purposes.

4/8/09 - Received a call from 877-354-8148?  Press #7 - live person answered "American Express".  I spoke with "Michelle", ID # 1815.  She was helpful and pleasant.

Further inquiry will reveal the "Collection Department".  American Express
3600 E. University Dr., #B-1350
Phoenix, AZ 85034

(Google map shows south of the airport)

1) calling AMEX, 800-528-4800, or 336-393-1111 or 877-366-6737  will not help as they cannot confirm 877-354-8148 is an AMEX telephone number.

2) AMEX Opt-out:  877-352-6747

3) "Mining" for extensions? Try ext. 257003 (forwards to "Sam's cell") or 257058 (Sherita Johnson's v/mail) and leave messages.

The caller ID says Card Services, call several times a day, asknig me to call the number. When I call, it says select 1 if I am an AMEX customer, or select two to enter my phone number and give my name.

I just started getting calls from this number. They never leave a msg. Interesting that this is supposedly from AMEX. JDC, you mentioned NCO.

Around Christmas my son stopped by and he got a call from NCO asking for ME. The man on the phone said he was from NCO and calling so I could pay my overdue AMEX card. I told him I never had an AMEX card. He said I obviously forgot that I did since I haven't paid it since 2004.
I asked why he was calling me on my son's cell #, he said that was the # on my account. I told him that was impossible since my son has only had a cell phone for about a year. And I don't use his #.
He said that maybe my son was pulling something on me. I said that was a little tough since he was only 14 in 2004.

I told this guy that I will respond to the correspondence that he is required to send to me after this phone call. He said that they've already sent me documentation, that I probably just throw it away so he isn't required to do anything.

I never received documentation of this call.

HOWEVER, I got what looked like a credit card solicitation from AMEX. The "offer" indicated that as a former AMEX holder I could apply for a new card and they would forward any outstanding balances to the new card for me!!

I checked out the address on the response card - NCO's address.

I checked my credit reports and my son's - nothing

877-354-8148 ext 1004 leave a pre recorded message for a specific person. This is a business they are calling. It asks you to hang up if you are not the named person. I hang up and they call at least ten more times each and every freakin day!!! I call back and can't reach anyone. I have reported them twice to the Do Not Call complaint line since my phone is registered. This is freakin insane!!!

I do not have an AMEX account. I never have. I have been receiving these calls, but when i answer it is a recording telling me to call them back. This is obviously some kind of scam. I called the # back and they said the office was closed but to leave my name and account #. No upstanding credit card company would ever ask you to leave that info. These type of calls are getting out of control.... like the ones that want you to hold for a rep. Also, they should identify themselves from the very start. Also, they should be required to leave you a message when they get your voice mail. There are laws against harrasment but they are not tight enough. it seems a new collection agency pops up everyday. It also seems like the big companies are turning to these companies a lot quicker than before.

Same thing,, Sue Smith from Amx has been calling me several times a week for MONTHS leaving the same damn message. I called back once figured it was a scam gave no info out. Now that I've read this I'm calling the phone company and asking them to notify Law Enforcement. Seems to me if enough of us call Law Enforcement someone might take the time and effort to trace this number and find out who is running this freakin scam. Maybe I'll call Amx as well. If we all call they have to do somthing,,,, one would think anyway.

Hi, This is American Express -- please call Sara Smith. This is not a call to sell you something. Then when I call the number it is a recording asking you to leave your name and number and they will get back to you. I don't want them to get back to me -- I want them to STOP calling my number! I called Am Ex and they have no idea about this number. So it is a huge black-hole. How can we get this to stop? Do I have to pay my phone company for special blocking feature?

Got a recorded message to call this 877 454 8148  and that it was American Express and it is not a solicitation .

Clearly it is a scam. I bet the minute you call they will want you to punch in the card number.

You would think the phone company should have a scam report call center?

A recording called and said it was American Express. This is not a solicitation. Do not hang up. Please give us your account number and we will tell you ... By then I had hung up and called Am Ex. Am. Ex was nice and checked the number. At first they said it was one of theirs. Then they said it wasn't. I'm currently on hold while they transfer me to the credit department but it's been about 15 minutes and I'm getting ready to hang up. I'm satisfied it was a phising expedition. WHY can't these folks be caught?

Same experience here, at least a call a day, however AMEX confirmed by e-mail that their phone number, I told them not to call me and I got this e-mail:
----------
Thank you for your follow-up e-mail.

Again, please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience caused to you.

Please note that I contacted them on your behalf today regarding the information provided in your e-mail. However, they need to speak with you directly. Therefore, I would request you to kindly call them.

You may contact them at 1-877-354-8148. From outside the United States, please call collect at 1-336-393-1111. Currently, they are not set up to correspond by e-mail, therefore, I am unable to forward your e-mail to them.

We would like to have helped you, but our department does not have the authority to deal with this kind of request.

We look forward to hearing from you over the phone.
---------

BTW, F*** American Express. And no, I don't owe them a cent if that's what is about. I sent them an e-mail asking to close my account, never contact me by phone and I will send a registered letter to if they don't stop, then I'm going to sue their a**es.

I just started receiving these calls on Saturday July 26th. I had an Amex acct in 1999, but closed both of them. The same thing happened to me, you call back, and they want you to leave your name and number. NO THANKS! Phishing for sure. I was concerned at first, but after reading these comments, I am going to have this number blocked on my phone. I don't even know HOW they got my cell phone number.
Ignore them and go on with your life. That's what I'm going to do!

I do owe American Express about $4500 from five or six years ago. I have recently started receiving calls from this number and they call me on Sunday mornings, weeknights, and all kinds of odd hours. I also received a letter from American Express, so I do believe this is a legitimate call. However, I have made several attempts to settle my account with American Express and each time I get another ding on my credit report. I finally realized that it's best to avoid them altogether. Eventually, it will come off my credit record and i'll be done with them.

Also, be aware that the last time I tried to settle my account, they actually told me; 1. that I should stop paying my child support so that I can make monthly payments on my AMX bill, and 2. that they were going to put a lien on my home if I didn't pay the bill in full. Both of these statements are illegal. Trust me, you don't want to deal with American Express. If you are receiving a call from this number, just ignore them.

This number calls several times a day.  Never have been affiliated with American Express, never will be.  I also do not want to leave my private information on their recording.  If this is a legit set-up, why do you not get to talk to a real person?  My phone company is no help.  I can purchase a call block service from them, but they can't tell me if this particular number would be blocked.  They referred me to the donotcall.org website.  I'm already registered, so what the heck, I filed a complaint for this phone number.  Maybe that will do something.  But, I won't hold my breath.
