Simply report such calls to Federal Trade Commission (File A Complaint); Federal Communications Commission; or if you suspect a scam, The FBI. People, please, consistently report these scammers & vultures, and soon your Government will be forced to take a more positive stance toward these invaders.

K when dealing with CBV this is what you do!!!

Tell them that you are willing to pay the original debt but not the interest acquired. They are only allowed to call you 3 times a day and if they are not call them back and tell them that. you will be instantly transferred to the supervisor. Ask them the original amount and tell them that you are willing to pay that amount. They will come to an agreement. You are entitled to pay the original bill amount because if you dont it will go onto your credit bureau....

My "bill" from CBV was $1402.08 and then I got it down to the original amount of $181.34

You  do have rights!!!

I also have a very important message from Marla at CBC(?) regarding my file xxxxxx.  at this 1-877-355-9925 Extension 13056 and she will be in the office until 8 pm this evening.  Sounds like an Oriental lady with a British accent - also got my name incorrect - had same call and message etc a week or so ago.   What I really hate is the almost official sounding tone that is meant to intimidate.  I have no credit cards and no debts.

I had a message left on my voice mail when I got home from work - they seemed to know a mispronounced variation of my name and said to call this number.  The lady sounded like a Chinese woman with a very British accent although I was not able to understand anything she said and now after checking this website, I am not even going to waste my time replaying to try to understand. .  From reading the others posted here, I also I do not owe anyone anything.  .

Debt Collector
I get these calls usually at the beginning of the year about phony debts.  The latest was to my office, we're Accountants and always pay our invoices on time and operating debt-free.   Calls always inform us about outstanding invoices and threats to of legal action.

We've already monitoring this number and did not answer this latest fraudulent call.  Whatever, the debt guise...this is FAKE!!!  No idea who this company truly is and the prior posts have likely been given fake debt requests.

Do not entertain speaking with them and you should immediately hangup, otherwise you're supporting their criminal activity.

telus  has a long history of changing things on you or not canceling  all sorts of issues  one of the biggest reasons people leave them is because they are sick of complaining to them and trying to get them to do something right. its almost as if there plan is to make money off you this way.

Canceled there phones one at a time  one a few weeks later they say I never canceled the first one and claimed I owed $26.. called again they said no big deal and it was sorted out then I get a call back and its 20 times higher? WTF now they want more then what they said I owed literly a week later   Tell them to F off.. these companies buy the debt for pennies on the dollar.. they guy who your talking to is making money thats why he is so concerned.   the whole banking system is fraud (fractional banking)  Oh and the bank of canada is the 13th federal reserve if you think we are not controled too..    they comit fraud every day and these agencies who feed at the bottom (collection agents) are as low as they come.  they PR all the fixing a problem issues. You just become a statistic controled in there grid.   You do not need to have any creidit to survive .. the richest folks in the world don't borrow from banks..  if bank creidit is for borrowing from a bank or to hook up a service  there is more then one alternative and they seem to be way better then the big corperate model.  so screw em.

only person who needs your social insurance number is somene who gives you money for work  or the gov .. thats it no one can ask you for that.. yet they still do..

Got a call from this number (1-877-355-9925) and have blocked it. Isn't there something the phone company can do to block these annoying calls? So far I've blocked 10 of these calls, but only have 2 spots left for the next nuisance's calls.
Maybe our phone company should extend the Blocking List to 25 from 10. At least this in Canada, with Telus. Does anyone else have suggestions?

I got a call two consecutive days from that number. One of the calls was from a person that told me to 'govern myself accordingly and return this call'. Don't bother returning their calls. If they were a legit business they wouldn't be harassing people like this.

They called and asked me for confidential information like my birth date... I said well you're calling me so tell me and I'll confirm if it's correct.  They said they can't do that, so I hung up.  Birthdate and things like mother's maiden name help them steal your identity.  I don't know who they are, they never leave a message.

Got a couple of calls from this number on my work phone a couple of month ago. They left no messages and I ignored them. They called again today and I returned the call. They claim to be a collection agency but won't tell me what it's about as I won't give out the private information they asked to confirm my identity with.

I requested they no longer call my work # which they are legally required to honour. The girl I was speaking with said she had no other contact # which made me suspicious as any files they bought to collect on would certainly have come with my contact information.

Point of interest is I've never given out my work # for any purpose other than work and the phone I use is a company phone not in my name. So how it got associated with this "file" they have on me is a little disconcerting.

Beware!

Total Scam company.  They called for 12 months once a month.  They would leave a garbled message from a different person each time, never saying their company or what it is about.

Talked to them once.  They wouldn't give any information except that I owed money.  Which is pretty much impossible as I have a cell, a car paid off, and no mortgage.  No debts outstanding or overdue.  Not even a library fine.  Funny thing was they wanted me to give them my personal ID over the phone.  Really sketchy.  I told them to just mail what they claim with all the details and I'll look at it, otherwise, it sounds like a scam.

It's been well over 2 months now since that conversation.  No mail, no signed package.  Not even registered mail.  And they called again saying it's urgent.  I can't imagine how urgent it is, if they can't send anything.

I wish them a great day.  But not any of my money, which they think they are entitled to.  They should run their business like a business.

Reading posts online too about how they treat their staff.  You poor guys.  Anyone working there, just so you know, you deserve better.

This is very interesting, as the collection agency can try their best to collect off you for a 7-1/2 year debt, but this debt would NOT show up on a credit report.

Statutes for past debts are posted to your credit rating for up to 6 years. If you in fact do owe the company money, you just have to pay the original amount to have it expunged from your credit record
- not the added collection fees!

If you don't pay off the debt, the amount stays on your credit report indefinitely, but it is not reported to anyone requesting your credit report after the 6 year time frame has passed.

I have heard recently that the amount of time a collection agency can come after you has gone down to two years. I haven't corroborated this, but definitely it is worth looking into if you are being bothered for a 7-8 year old debt.

The collection agency will try to intimidate you into handing over money, which incidentally, the original company never sees, as they have already written off that debt.

This company is CBV Collections. They are a legitimate collections agency. I believe they are based in the Vancouver area but have offices in several Canadian cities.
