They have been calling my house multiple times a day for a person who owes money that I do not know. I have had this phone # for 2 12 year and have been receiving collection calls for at least 3 different people with this persons last name. No matter how many times I tell them I do not know any of these people, they KEEP calling. I am now keeping records of the times they call and who they ask for and will be turning it over to the attorney general and a lawyer if need be.

This number keeps calling for a person name Roxine Powers and there's no one here by that name.  We always press 2 to let the stupid company know that there is no one here by that name.  Of course, the recording always apologize but it keeps calling us numerous times.  It's very frustrating.

In the eighties, the economy went into the gutter. Needless to say, I went broke and the collectors lined up for blood. I have had phone calls after 10 PM and before 7 AM. Needless to say, I learn how to become a survivor.

Like my grandfather use to say, you can not get blood from a turnip. In the beginning, I was afraid most of the time. I finally learn most of their collection attempts were hot air after dealing with foreclosure and repossession activities. Unless the collector has something to foreclose or repo, their is not a lot the collector can do but threaten. I also learn you can borrow money with bad credit reports and issues on your credit report will drop off after three to seven years. Also, judgements and threats of judgements are almost useless also.

Since that time, I have two phone lines. One is for inbound calls and the other is for out bound calls. Inbound line has caller I.D. and message recorder. I never answer inbound calls. If I do not recognize a caller or caller I.D., I do not return the call. If I return a call, I use the outbound line. I never give out my outbound line to anyone. Not even family. Any call returned on my outbound line is directed to an answering service for screening. When required to complete documentation which require my phone number, I give my inbound line.

Also, I have two cell phones. One is for family and close friends and the other is for business. When I receive a call and the number is not in my address book, I do not answer it. My unrecognized inbound business cell calls are directed to an answering service.

In the beginning, it was hard not to answer a call. Being human, curiosity will bite you in the butt nine times out of ten. After being chewed on enough, you will learn not to answer a phone call. Also, when you lay down to rest, you will learn not to leave the ringer on. If you can not refrain from calling an unrecognizable phone number, check it out on the internet first before calling.

Now, with everything I have shared, you can take a few dollars and buy a good cup of coffee.

Take care and have a great day!!!

I tried calling back and it said I won a cruise. Yeah right.  I think the Dept. of Ed should be held accountable.  Yes the federal govt. is working for us.  What a waste of our tax dollars.

This company has been calling me for years! I keep telling them that no one by the name they are asking for lives at my number but they keep calling. Nothing seems to deter them. They agree to remove my name from their list but then within a few months they resume calling me. These people used to go by the name "Asset Acceptance", now they say the name of their company is "DOS EOS CCA". The guy I spoke with hung up on me when I explained the situation to him. I am so tired of these maggots and their endless phone calls!

I don't see how they're legitimate when there are so many complaints about them asking for people who don't live at that number. Not all of them are asking about DOE collections, either.

I have had the same phone number for over 8 years and if they're trying to reach a person who had it before me, they are a lame a** excuse for a collection company and are surely wasting someone's money. I've never had a loan to pay off or any roommates with one either, so I know they're not looking for me or anyone I've lived with.

They may have the right to call your number ONCE to try and collect on a loan, but if you tell them they have the wrong person and ask for their list to be corrected, then they DON'T have the right to ignore your request and keep calling.  If they ask for info like your SSN# and so on, that cannot be legitimate;  that caller is fishing for information to steal your money and identity.  Again, the number and nature of the complaints here do not point to legitimate activities.

I do agree that it's a waste of time to talk about trying to take these big companies to court, but I don't agree that victims should "stop bellyaching" and give up. There really should be a way we can stop them but so far I haven't found one.  Best advice I have:  DON'T answer the phone, DON'T give them information, DON'T call back even if it's a toll free number or it's a "please remove me from your list" number...it does confirm your number is active and they sell it to other phone scammers. Just delete the call and forget about it, turn your ringer off and let the machine pick up, if there's never an answer from you then eventually they'll stop.  It's these people who are arrogant, not us consumers, you dig?

If a large company violates the debt collection laws they can - and should - be held accountable, including being sued.  Don't be intimidated by bombastic speech.

Repeated annoying phone calls looking for someone I've never heard of. They've been told to stop calling and take my number off their list, as yet to no avail. They do seem to be one of the scummier outfits; in initial calls they claimed to be US Dept. of Ed., now they're at least being honest about what company they are (in their endless robo-calls). Wouldn't give them the time of day.

It's the Dept of Education collection service. Yes, they ARE legitimate and yes, they DO call other numbers you've EVER been somehow associated with. Yes, they do have a right to call the number that they're calling. You'll never get them "sued" on the DNC list, they're a collection agency, not a solicitor. Believe me...I DON'T work for them...they've tried to get hold of me. The number they called is the ex-wife of my best friend, who was my roommate for several years. That's how they got the number through a system called LexusNexus, it's purchasable and completely legal.
So, stop bellyaching, and tell them that you've passed along the information and it's up to the person they're trying to contact to do that, but not to call you anymore. Good luck with your "lawsuit"...these places are not afraid of one lawyer, because they have lots of them on retainer and can tie you up in litigation for years, wasting YOUR money. Don't get arrogant about suing large companies.

I called these dirtbags finally after months of spam calls from them, someone named Tina picked up, she was surprisingly polite. I verified the number I called and demanded to know why they were calling. She said they were looking for someone called "Brian Hooper", to which I responded " I have no idea who that is". She said she would get our number out of the system, I iterated after that any future calls would be met with a lawsuit under federal and local laws.

I can only hope I did not just get done verifying my number as a good one to be harassed further. I was not kidding about sueing them though. I have had quite enough of these scumbags and vultures making me feel like I am about to be screwed over at any time.

Robot call that tells someone that does not live here, that they have an important business call, and they need to respond. I am on do not call list. How can they call back, and aren't robot calls illegal now? I am  unsure on that point.

Tell these people the federal states they are only
allowed to call once a month.
Maybe forty or more people should call there number
at the same time. Then hang up and call right back.

The same story that bothers every Citizen in America regarding false collection. The company EOCCA is based in Mass. and states that they have a contract with Dept. of Education, which is not true and a proper statment would be that they purchase deliquent notes and attempt to collet on them

I've been getting these calls for almost six years! Threats to report them to the FCC and the California PUC work for only about six months. They keep asking for someone named "Sandra Neuendorfer" (sp?).

Same thing here.  I called back, gave them case number and they tried to validate my birthday.  They asked if it was Aug 23rd when I told them it wasn't and asked what it's about they said they must have the wrong person and hung up.  Very fishy.

I finally called back and gave them the "case number" they left on my machine. The woman on the other end told me it was something to do with the Department of Education and I had to give them the last 4 of my Social Security Number before they could tell me any more. I refused, and she said they'd just keep calling back every three days. Suits me fine; the DELETE button on my answering machine works fine.
